Right, why do men (and maybe women - I dont know I'm not looking for a woman!!!) think that an ideal date is in a country pub with a log fire (like the exist???!) or a DVD and a bottle of wine. Reasons against this one: A) DVD = no conversation. B) Go to a stranger's house and drink wine???

Does anyone actually do these first dates????!

Try asking what the guy has in mind. I'd think twice before drinking any arlread open bottles. Over here some lowlifes will drug a gal and ... If you're not comfortable then don't do it or go there. If the guy won't understand you just dodged a control freak. I don't see you having any problem finding a guy, it's just the "good" part that is hard to find. I would have no problem adjusting what where or whatever if my date was not comfortable with it.

What is ideal for one may not be for another. I have had a first date at my home. Im not a wine drinker or a drinker at all so that was not a problem. If you are not comfy with it dont do it.

Men and Women put "the walk on the beach" and "the cozy fire" and "Chilled wine " junk in their profiles because its the romantic crap that they see in the movies. I almost married a girl (and should have) I met for coffee at a local coffee shop sooooo wouldn't that make it a romantic "hotspot"?

Honestly,
Its easy to figure out the DVD thing. They are cheap....and are likely looking to get some easy sex. Its easy to make a move on a girl watching a movie in her home and hey theres a bedroom somewhere around right. Ohh...and the country pub thing is a nice version of a bar. Get the girl drunk take her home. lol Man I sound so mean. But hey, I am not actually jaded. Just was niave once then I wised up.

Oh, Race25, tell me you would love to walk on the beach or sit in front of a cozy fire and share some wine with the right gal? Surely there is a romantic bone in that body somewhere. Besides, coffee shops can be very romantic with the right person.

All that stuff sounds better than the first date I was just offered. After exchanging a couple of casual "hello" type emails with this guy, he invites me to meet him today for the very first time --- at WALMART, because he has some shopping to do.

I kid you not. Walmart.

Then when I respectfully declined, he was enraged. He was "so disappointed" in me. He thought I would "jump at the chance" to meet with him.

*Sigh.* Has it really come to this?

Well a walk around Walmart is always great introduction…. On arrival as one walks in, it gives you the feeling of a welcome at the Oscars, you know the "greeting ceremony".

Now this environment can also be very comfortable for both parties, its a communicational haven, for example… "what do you think" and do I really need it ", "what do you do with it?" You'd never run out of things to talk about with those uncomfortable silences....

Now if all goes wrong in this dating atmosphere at least you leave with a new can opener and you can always return it when you try out your next new date if things did not work out?

Hey now there are some beautiful that shop in Target lol! But no really,I would not want a girl coming to my house for a 1st date. What if it's not a match and now she knows where you live?? It's nto easy being creative. A comfortable silence is very rare on a 1st date as in a coffee shop, you could get real bored real quick. How about rollerskating or bowling?? LOL

as a good first date. This is so redundant,I think I'll scream if I hear it again!

There has only been once in my life where the walk on the beach was the first date event.
It wasn't awkward or anything, just feels kinda cliche-ish... being set up by friends, go walk on the boardwalk to have an ice cream and chat about things.

I think the key when it comes to first dates is that it doesn't have to be the fanciest joint in town, but its gotta be something that the both of you can enjoy (to lower that sense of intensity of meeting up for the first time), and interact. Silly as might sound, a game of mini golf can bring out the animal instinct in some of us for competitiveness, likewise for games like darts, pool, etc.

I think many ppl don't seems to think dinner is a great idea anymore because its a commitment of money and time for the entire dinner. Plus, what if the person on the other side of the table isn't what they seems to be on the ad here...

I have had the country pub with a roaring fire--coal, but a fire nonetheless...it was lovely and we had a great date.

I like odd first dates...tennis, sporting events, pub quizzes...all good fun...things that allow you to share something, but have time to talk as well. The activity fills any gaps and it immediately gives you something you've shared and can talk about.

I had a great date at a book store once. Also told me a lot about the person looking at the books he selected.

lol Walmart!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a visual.....and its not pretty. From there you can go to Sam's club for lunch. Hit the free food hand outs.

My dates are rather boring compared to that. Mine have all been lunch dates at restaurants.

For me, it depends on the person and the initial connection. But most of the time, I'll recommend a nice coffee/tea place - perfect for conversation, getting a feel for the other person, and if there's nothing there, you're not stuck waiting for food, etc. If things work out, you can head out from there - go get something to eat, talk a walk in the park, play some pool or putt-putt - sky's the limit.

I guess he felt it was too early to take you to a nice romantic dinner, with two of you sharing couple Big Macs.

I had a first date at a local pub and yes there was a fire. We lucked out and got the table right near the fireplace. It made for a very cozy spot for conversation.

I don't like the idea of a movie - at home or the theatre as there is no possibility to get to know each other.

For me, I change up the first date ideas depending on the season. I like the outdoors so I have done an afternoon at the zoo, a trip to the Maple Sugar Bush and an afternoon cruise on the local tour boat.
