| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/27/2008 10:43:44 PM | Yes sometimes I think people are hiding behind the 'prefer not to say'. They might be married or a social smoker and not saying so. But isn't this more honest than the person who flat out lies about it?
And yes, its dumb because when you come across a profile where there's 'Prefer not to say' throughout, and not much info in the other fields, its very hard to think of a pretext for contacting them.

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/27/2008 11:09:55 PM | | I actually left my marital status as 'prefer not to say' just for the hell of it.. and had no pic. I actually got more responses when it was like that believe it or not. | |

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/27/2008 11:13:04 PM | I tried to put "prefer not to say" for my gender, in the hope of catching myself a hot lesbian. Turns out you can't. Meh.
Anyway, "prefer not to say" means whatever would be less desirable.
Have children? Prefer Not to Say = Yes Do Drugs? Prefer Not to Say = Yes Height? Prefer Not to Say = Short Body Type? Prefer Not to Say = Overweight. Quite a bit. Religion Prefer Not to Say = Something weird. Like Christian. (Couldn't help it.) Relationship Status? Prefer Not to Say = Well, I'm with someone, but I'm checking out the market.
Income is one of the few that's reasonable to put "Prefer not to say". I'll tell anyone who asks, but it's not the sort of thing appropriate for a profile.
In most cases people would only put "Prefer not to say" when they don't want to say it outright. If it wasn't an "issue" people would just say it. Body Type: Average. Height: 6 foot 1. Etc.

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/27/2008 11:42:29 PM | Personally I think Whitegold has summed it up perfectly..however in some peoples defence (not my own, as I dont use the option - I figured eventually someone will note that I dont have kids, dont do drugs, am short, am overweight, am a atheist and single !!! ) I have noticed at times the options that are on offer just dont encompass the person and what they wish to express, so "Prefer not to say" is just easier... | |

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/28/2008 12:01:35 AM | Yeah! There's some stuff we really need to know! They should put more things in the profile.
Are you trying to find some woman who puts out after 3 dates, then never speak to her again? Prefer Not to Say
Do you have intimacy issues stemming from parental problems? Prefer Not to Say
Are you a shallow jerk who thinks that his income makes up for his utter lack of charisma? Prefer not to say
Are you a premature ejaculator? Prefer not to say
Are you claiming to be looking for a guy who's "nice and doesn't play games" but you actually just want one with a nice car and abs? Prefer not to say

'do you want children'
all you have to pick from is....
Prefer not to say, does want, does not want, and undecided.... what about " it would be nice but at my age lets be realistic"

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/28/2008 6:51:56 AM | I think that half the reason people have * Prefer not to say* on their profiles is because they have`nt taken the time to fill it all in. Some because they were very keen to check out who was in the website, and had to have something there, and then put it on their favourites to come back to later..... You must realize that not everyone has the time to check out every person on the website they join, so by adding some details it leaves them opportunities to come back again, when they have time.. I am on a few chat sites, and I can add a link to any other website like this one, so people can come and have a look at this one, and a few have joined after looking... so sometimes it takes them awhile to read all the threads before they find what and who they are looking for...
of course, if a anyone has *prefer not to say* on the part where it asks whether they are single, married, attached or other........I usually ignore them, as if they can`t be truthful when they join a website first up, they will never tell you everything about themselves...

I'm with you on this one, damsel - but for a slightly different reason. If someone has that on their marital status, I immediately assume they could be married (or equivalent relationship) and are looking to cheat. Call me suspicious, but it's a hassle I don't want or need.
|
| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/28/2008 11:21:41 PM | if someone was going to cheat, wouldnt they put "single" down in their bio??? Do people find it easier to lie to a person's face than the Internet?
I welcome messages from married women...

| What is it with Prefer not to say ? Posted: 3/28/2008 11:30:01 PM | | Probably, mark....it's just the assumption my brain makes, without even switching it on. :shrug Could be lots of reasons why someone would put prefer not to say on that section....and all of them have a big red cross for me, I think. | |
