| favourite paintings Posted: 3/30/2008 1:10:11 PM | Thanks for starting this thread.
I'd have to pick a painting that looks surpring, fresh, and new each time I see it: Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d' Avignon"

| favourite paintings Posted: 3/30/2008 10:56:51 PM | | I used to like monet , czezanne and anything impressionism. then as I got older and into design, I got more interested in illustrations and street art such as shepherd fairey and others. Street art is more soul, youthful and out of the box and can be applied to t shirt graphics and skate/snowboard design. I don't think you'll ever see a traditional artwork on a board...but thats just my opinion. | |

|
| favourite paintings Posted: 4/1/2008 7:01:50 PM | Van Gough's Sunflowers and Starry Night
Two beautiful paintings by a very troubled, but brilliant artist........
Starry starry night, paint your palate blue and grey..............and I could have told you Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you..........
My favorite artist by far ...........

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/1/2008 8:27:18 PM | | Hi cynicalsniper, very good choice, his paintings are meticulous in their detail and only a true artist can do such work.i can easily understand why you admire his work so much and he should be more famous than he is. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/1/2008 8:32:24 PM | | Hi london lass 59,thanks a lot for your input and your choices.Out of the two paintings i prefer the Starry Night but have to admit his work leaves me a little cold but if he inspires you thats all that counts. Thanks a lot for your reply. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/2/2008 7:23:32 AM | My interest in art is fairly recent, and I certainly don't have the knowledge that previous posters do.
My favourite work of art is a pastel called "Submerged" by a (local) lady named Pamela Copeland. I wander through the same gallery every week, and this painting draws me each and every week. If and when I ever get some spare cash, and assuming it is still available, I will buy it!!
Showing my 'art ignorance' - does a pastel even count as a 'painting'?

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/2/2008 8:10:47 AM | | Hi Castaline,i can understand what you say about drawing you in,not my typical type of painting but its easy to see why you like it so much.good choice.I hope you can buy it soon and sure in Art everything counts,if you decide to take it up yourself pastels are a great way to start. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/2/2008 8:40:31 AM | | Swans Reflecting Elephants by Salvador Dali is my favorite, just something I could look at again and again and never feel completely familiar with it. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/2/2008 8:49:15 AM | | Hi southpaw outlaw, its a painting ive never seen before but what a brilliant choice, not only the quality of the painting but the idea is genious.I think you have just moved into second place, well done and thanks for replying. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/3/2008 3:35:22 PM | | I don't know much about art. I really do like the renaissance art of Botticelli though. | |
|
| favourite paintings Posted: 4/3/2008 8:24:19 PM | | My favorite artist is Richard Schmid, but choosing a favorite would be tough. However, I prefer his landscapes to his still lifes. I haven't found anyone that understands the art of a brush stroke or color theory better than he does. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/3/2008 9:15:49 PM | Death Dealer by Frazetta. Always liked his work.

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/4/2008 2:07:45 AM | Thanks Hispring63,ARTGUYSLC and evenstevn. Botticelli,a true artist in every sense of the word but im not keen on his subject matter but good choice. Richard Schmid, great choice and i agree with you on his landscapes, they are breathtaking, great choice. Frazetta, again a bit macabre for my tastes but obviously a very talented artist. Thanks for your replys. | |

| favourite paintings Posted: 4/4/2008 4:10:36 AM | | My favourite painting for quite some time now has been 'Rain' by Howard Hodgkin. I love the way that the painting invites you into a moment in time, it suggests without spelling everything out for you. | |
|
| favourite paintings Posted: 4/4/2008 4:21:07 AM | | Thanks Jem812 for your choice,i have to admit im not a fan of abstract painting but if you see something in it,then thats what art is all about.Everything is subjective but not for me im afraid but thanks a lot for your input. | |

|
| favourite paintings Posted: 4/4/2008 3:33:18 PM | Flaming june is a great painting. Most of my favourite artists have reworked it in different contexts. What greater flattery could there than being copied by a genius?
An example - http://www.artchive.com/artchive/K/klimt/danae.jpg.html
