And, is current ownership willing to work with local investors in keeping the team in Seattle? From what I've read, Bennett has his heart set on taking the franchise to OKC come hell or high water...maybe the best thing is to let the team go, but the name, history, records, and championship banner stays in the Emerald City, a la Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens. It would be sad to think about the Sonics being gone...I was a sixth-grader growing up on Whidbey Island in 1979 when the team won the NBA title; our family -transplanted Milwaukeeans- took a little extra measure of pride in the key roles played by "Downtown" Freddy Brown and John "JJ" Johnson, both Milwaukee natives...and later, when Jack Sikma was traded to the Bucks, I was by then back in Milwaukee...and I got to see my favorite player from the Sonics Championship team again...good memories... | |
