| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 2:09:58 PM | This thread is not about me its about non-smoking medications and Helpful information for anyone that wants to quit smoking!!
The new by - law got me to thinking ....maybe its time to quit smoking......I have wanted to quit for some time now and I have made up my mind that I am finally going to give it a shot and throw away the cancer sticks.
I will be starting the non-smoking pill champix on Tuesday (after I finish my carton of smokes and to be able to slowly cut down before the big day) but like I said previously I am only doing this for me, definitely not cause the government is dictating our lives again...(((((((besides I want to buy another boat next spring and the extra money saved will just mean a bigger boat.)))))))
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this medication Champix? and if so I would love some information on it...Like does it work? How long were you on it? Did you still crave a smoke? Did it make you feel nauseous? Does it have side effects like the patch where you have crazy dreams and cant sleep? How much does it cost? Does it have any other bad side effects? Do you know of another stop smoking aid that helped you to quit? And if so please post your story.
And yes I realize that will power is all you need, however I think I will do it with a little help so that I have a better chance of beating the nicotine addiction.
Any information from people who have tried this stop smoking medication or others would be greatly appreciated.
Any one care to join on the non-smoking band wagon? (((((thumper?)))))
((((oh and if i seem a little grouchy on here next week ya know why. ( I apoligize ahead of time...hahahahaha).....just remind me to think of the boat ))))

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 2:34:15 PM | Good luck to you both!!
I quit smoking cigarettes about ten years ago and I was almost to three packs a day... before I got pregnant. It took me months to wean myself off. I went to the "lightest" brand I could find and cut right back. It was a bad cold and wetting my pants everytime I coughed or sneezed that finally did it though. **disclaimer: I do not recommend my method
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 2:38:47 PM | | only a few days no side effects as of yet but low dose right now and this is to be taken for 12 weeks and if need be can be continued after 12 weeks | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 2:38:57 PM | I quit nearly 6 years ago and the pills I took were called zban. I was a heavy smoker so took the pills for 6 months plus I used the regime of the nicotine patches. I had crazy dreams but I was also going through a separation so for me it probably was a combination of the pills and stress.
Sorry, don't know anything about Champix but if you were a heavy smoker you might consider using the nicotine patches at the same time. The combination of both really helped with cravings. I smoked for close to 40 years and quit with the help of both.
Good luck! | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 3:21:07 PM | I am probably way off base in my observations of the female gender....
However, it has been very difficult to find single thin women, who are non-smokers !
I am thinking a peppermint would help cure the oral fixation.
If that is what it is.
Peppermint is much cheaper than the patch or pills or FOOD or surgery.

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 3:24:04 PM | ^^^^^yep, gonna buy some calorie free tic tacs, peppermints, gum. That is the reason I picked this time of year to quit, as atleast a person can get out and be more active so less chance of packing on the weight...((((( cause I know me ... I would rather be an outcast smoker than grossly overweight))) but I also understand or have heard that you may put on a few pounds but eventually your weight will go back to normal as your body gets used to its new self (for lack of better word) I bought weight loss pills already and started them last week to help a little with the lets say adjustment time ...hahahahaha
I have tried Zyban and I have tried the patch...they didnt work...I need a stop smoking miracle pill
Zyban made me all weirded out....SCARY stuff!!!!!...couldnt handle it....and the patch was like sleeping in a movie (when and if i could sleep on it that day) ....a very scary, very graphic movie...it stopped the cravings but the lack of sleep was dragging me down as I could not sleep EVER while I was using it...
I may be wrong but I think that champix stops your craving as it blocks the transmitters to the brain ((((oh my god, what am I doing)))) but hopefully only the nicotine craving This is why I would like some input so I know what to expect...My appointment with my dr. is on sat and I know he will just say ...its all good as he always bugs me about stopping smoking...so thats why I want input from others before I decide to take the champix route or try another miracle cure ((((or pack my bags and move to the " island " for good))))

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 4:16:00 PM | However, it has been very difficult to find single thin women, who are non-smokers !
ok thats it .........why the hel would i want to quit now.....give me a light.....hows that carton doing skinny?
Any information from people who have tried this stop smoking medication or others would be greatly appreciated
yes ..i was hypnotized once ..for 50 bucks he said ,,if you want to quit smoking ...you must stop putting them in your mouth..didnt work ..
but the part where we were all told to turn and rub the persons back beside you... that girl beside me was a pro ..ooww she was good...now that helps to get relaxed and not smoke ..lots of sex would probably work better ..

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 4:51:31 PM | I already answered this in another forum
FYI: Chantix is called Champix in Canada. It is by prescription only, cost $30 a week, not generally covered by extended health plans.
My personal experience was that it worked great, more effective than anything else I tried, but I had to deal with ongoing nausea while on it.
Sponge if you want more details, just email me.
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 6:01:51 PM | Oh spongie....lol looking for more sympathy...you poor thing, there
feel better now?? and don't say YUCK
the real secret to quiting smoking is that you have to want to quit and not just about it trust moi, been there done that...lol when you are REALLY, REALLY ready to quit find a very experiences acupuncture specialist and see him/her the first day you are without smokes... 3 to 10 treatments should do it depending how the acupuncture person works
benefits are no side effects, no extra costs for medications etc...
works the same as your voodoo magic " a little needle here into spongy, an little needle there into spongy" .. . just better
try it daarlin
good luck! | |

| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 7:30:23 PM | My mom phoned her Dr's office to book an appt to get a prescription for an anti-smoking drug to be told that she has to pay a fee for the Dr filling out the prescription. Blows me away that this dr tells her over and over she needs to quit smoking, and now he wants $40 dollars to fill out a little slip of paper. Money grab if you ask me. | |
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 8:54:30 PM | no mountain lion im not looking for sympathy just support as I have tried in the past to quit smoking and obviously everything I tried didnt work ((((ya dum azz))))
I am just trying to gather up info so that this time it just may work for me and maybe others who may be trying to quit too and if this thread helps them than mote it be!
If it doesnt then I will try acupuncture next wiccan voodoo style and also look into seeing a professional acupuncturist
hey just watched this commercial ....STUPID.CA about the guy running around the woods during hunting season with antlers on chanting about he wasnt as stupid as the smokers
too funny
~~~~õn a more serious note i just read while doing some research that people who take the following: * insulin * asthma medicines * blood thinners
should not use champix....
also read that side effects are:
* Nausea * Changes in dreaming * Constipation * Gas * Vomiting
HMMM....may have to rethink this whole idea ...yikes!
Hope to hear some feed back on this...before I jump the next boat to the island...hahahaha Tornado I am emailing you now !!!! hehehehe
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/4/2008 8:59:25 PM | | I have heard that voodoo wiccan style of acupuncture is the only kind that works. It is something to with the needles being of a higher quality. I have been told it also a little more painful and may involve blood loss. Good Luck - Sponge! | |
| STOP SMOKING nausea... Posted: 4/4/2008 11:57:17 PM | no nausea if you eat when you take it, is my experience. if not then i get real nausia, ugh
so eat | |
|
| STOP SMOKING nausea... Posted: 4/5/2008 12:12:40 AM | For me, I know of two people that did it the way that I feel everyone can and should do it. Just quite!!!!!!!!!
I do know and agree that if and when you WANT to quite, that its much easier to do so as apposed to either feeling like you should, or being told that you should. Don' t get me wrong about that.
But I feel that as specially when the large majority of the things that people buy to help them quite end up not working at all that its just the smoking companies in general that promote all of these gimmicks to try and convince you to 1) try and quite with a product, and 2) they end up gaining from those gimmicks because it is the might cigarette companies that buy/sell them to you from both ends of the spectrum.
I personally was floored when I found this little known fact out.
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 2:40:37 AM | Patches never worked for me, probably because I needed something to simulate the same Instances I would light up a smoke. Thus I became a NICORETTE Gum Convert ... it was a Breeze to quit, as long I didn't follow the Directions ....
In Fact, I never even noticed I quit smoking, a walk in the Park. Been 5 Months, but I am still chewing this Junk because otherwise I'll gain weight. Someone had said it takes about a Year for the Body to re-adjust and stabilize and recommended I keep using it.
I had already gotten off the Gum twice (also a walk in the park) but I gained weight very quickly, esp. unnecessary colonic weight Retention.
So in the Mornings I chew 3x the recommended Dosage and that keeps that winning Regularity Momentum going ...
Deleting Chat Threads also takes the Edge off it ... No Side Effects either ... lol
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 9:28:49 AM | i myself quit COLD TURKEY .. caught a really nasty cold .. brother in law bet me $50 that i couldnt quit for a year (dont bet a scorpio) and that was 6 years ago now .. never looked back and i even lost 85 lbs .. chewing gum .. eating spitz or mints helped me with having something in my mouth other then the cigarette and my computer helped me when i wanted to do the hand movements to the mouth ..
a few of my friends have tried zyban .. the gum .. the patches and they are still smoking also two ppl i know tried lazer and 1 quit and 1 didnt .. one who didnt quit said the stress in her life was just too much or otherwise she thinks it would have worked but it was her doing .. that is what i remember her telling me ..
good luck . .. hope it works for you
|
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 9:32:27 AM | ^^^^lazer? never heard of that....
What do they do?
and your right Mountain Lion....I dont really want to quit, I enjoy smoking ( sometimes) but I hate standing outside in the winter at home or downtown and I hate the smell and I hate coughing, and I hate the thought of getting emphysema and I most hate wasting my money when it can go to such better uses like another mortgage or a boat or whatever.
Was also wondering if anyone took gravol with champix and if that worked...cause I dont want to eat my self into an oblivion to stop nausea....
I am also picking up the nicorettes with the champix....yeah yeah I know Im an addict...lol
hope to hear from you scorpio or anyone else about the lazer stuff cause so far that sounds a little simpler than the others
(((((( and thumper why are you not posting in this thread????))))) (((( change your mind?))))
did a little research:
Laser offers a safe, painless, drugless, non-invasive approach to make the lifestyle changes you want fast and effectively.
Our treatments are perfectly safe and painless. No adverse side effects have been found after 20 years of use.
The laser is used to stimulate certain points on your skin similar to acupuncture. The big difference is that we don't stick needles into your skin so there is absolutely no concern for infection or disease. While you comfortably relax in a chair, our technician uses a laser light pencil to administer the treatment. You stay fully clothed during the 30 minute procedure.
This procedure is so effective that over 85% of our clients successfully kick the smoking habit after only one treatment. Some people require a booster treatment after a few weeks to help stay off of smoking.
now, I dont know which one to try.....aarrrhhhh ! lazer is pretty cheap only about 250.00 so comparible without side effects...think i will look into this...and move my quit date ahead just a little ....lol
| STOP SMOKING Posted: 4/5/2008 11:41:57 AM | sponge ..i understand its tough but the hypnotist that told me to just stop sticking them in my mouth was right ..will power ,,forget about any want or need or what ever ,,you can stop sticking them in your mouth...and then you will stop smoking ...when you realize this action was the trigger to having a smoke ,,you just stop sticking the cigarette in your mouth..concintrate on this action and stopping it instead of the smoking part..
>A great idea is to pick up an activity that will occupy your time , keep you busy and distracted. To have support from friends also helps.
its very hard to smoke on the motorcycle,,and it has helped me cut down ..what you spend on smokes is a new harley payment ..
