True Story
I was in Las Vegas for some r and r from work, just been to a early show and was sitting in a classy bistro in a very well known and somewhat high priced hotel (this is relevant)on the Strip having a late supper. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when this absoutely gorgeous to die for , American guy swaggered over , introduced himself, bought me a drink, joined me for supper and was forthcoming with plying me with compliments and alcohol...I couldnt believe my luck !! or stupidity !!
Ok fast foward two hours and I thought hell Im holidays (in between husbands) why not ?...so I do the invite, he accepts and in the lift its getting all hot and heavy, we barely make it to the room !!!...but we do...a few more minutes of starring in a scenario out of "The Last Tango in Paris" when we both came up for air where my guest for the evening then informs me that it would $2000US for the pleasure of his company for the evening, up until midday the next day and that included breakfast. Yes he would take travelers checks !!
Think of the exchange rate back in the year 2000 of the US dollar to the Australian !!!
So after picking my jaw off the ground and when I finished ascertaining the damage done to my dental work...I politely declined his kind offer..He was fine, kissed me on the cheek and was gone................leaving me embarassed, humiliated, shattered confidence and you guessed it...horney.....there was a moment there...hell, several moments where I almost yelled down the very long hallway for him to come back - like Lassie - comeback ..... and I was willing to ask would he take my passport as a guarantee while I rushed down to the lobby - ATM in Vegas you can get any amount out of those !!!
One cold shower and a lot of late nite infomercial tv later.....I was still thinking about him...mmmm, would I have paid for it ?...if I had cash on hand I think I might of.....what a shattering nite, and not really in the way I was hoping.......Im such a loser !!
Am I against it ?...nope, its a service and hey to each their own, just not into overpriced services but I have noticed that the Oz dollar is comparable in todays market... ......Now where did I put all those flyers they hand out to you on the Strip ?????.........mmmmmmmmm | |

2) Organised crime is often involved in prostitution, and prostitution is one of the main money earners for organised criminal gangs. The incentives and profits from prostitution also feed into other things like human trafficking and drug trafficking;
3) In some places in the world, prostitution or use of prostitutes has been implicated in the spread of HIV-AIDS and other STD's.
4) Some prostitutes are drug addicts, and use prostitution to feed their drug habits. Others are sometimes violently raped or assaulted, or murdered by clients.
5) Prostitution (in my view) is contrary to human dignity and well being, my reasons mostly being to the criminal elements which seem to quickly get involved in prostitution.
Therefore I would not pay someone to engage in sexual activity with me. I also think it should remain illegal, or at least, the purchase of sex from a prostitute should remain on the books as a serious criminal offence. | |

I wonder how I feel about a guy Im with having been to a prositute and was kind of repulsed by it when I was younger. But as Ive gotten older Ive realised some guys felt the need to so did and I cant judge them for doing that. Is it really any different to taking a girl out to dinner and drinks and then having sex with them once? You are still really paying for the sex at the end of the day/night.

The necessary financial components of a date are not the same as a purely fiscal transaction for purpose of sex. That sounds wanky, but it was worse before I took some of the big words out in the first draft of that sentence, do not worry. The moral is that there is more to the process than the mere value of the components.
A relationship, even a very short term one, is more than merely the amount of money put into to. Intercourse with a prostitute for money is a very different concept. | |

No matter who we go to bed with, the pro or the pickup..we go to bed with that partners history, in more ways than one. At least with a prostitute , you know that they have been with others, they will practice safe sex and they have regular medical checkups for STD' s which is more than most people do and will not hassle you for a relationship.
People go to brothels for many reasons. Sex yes, experimentation, for social company of other clients, and sometimes for someone to talk to.......and this is bad ..why ?
Why do we stereotype prostitution and frown on those who take up the service...? Its 2008 are we still so prudish and judgemental ? Bet many a visit to a brothel has saved a marriage, would you prefer your partner to do that or have an affair ???

And NOT criminal offenses in other jurisdiction, depending on circumstances. To quote George Carlin, "'Selling' is legal. 'F*cking' is legal. Why isn't 'selling f*cking' legal?!"
Personally, I make my own moral decisions regardless of the law. In pretty much every case they happen to align. This is not one of those cases.

Actually, this is kind of backwards. You're saying prostitution should stay illegal because of organised crime involvement. I'd argue the exact opposite. It should be legal to STOP the involvement of criminal organisations. The organised crime groups best known in the US, for example, would be the Mafia, a group essentially forged from Prohibition. When you make vices illegal all you do is create a vaccuum for criminals, and it WILL be filled.

Of course it has, but the solution to that is prevention and education, not condemnation and judgement. These things need to be tackled openly and honestly. Legislation merely drives it underground, removing any possibility of treating, watching or managing it.

Yes. They are. BECAUSE it's illegal. Because the women involved are not afforded any protection by a society that looks down on them. These are women who need protection and support, not condemnation. Its very illegality is what gets women hurt and abused.

Your view is wrong. Seriously, the view that it's contrary to human dignity is incredibly judgmental, and as such is the problem. You thinking it's contrary to dignity is what makes it so. You looking down on it is what makes it humiliating. You judging it is what lessens them. Not their acts but your very condemnation of them.
Before it sounds like I'm pro-prostitution I'm not. I have never and (probably) will never pay for sex. To me the purpose of sex is not just to "get off" but to be intimate, and to be desired by someone. With that in mind sex with a prostitute would be ultimately pointless for me.
Rainbow was right earlier when she said we all pay for it. Personally I've often wondered if a woman who marries for money could be classed as a prostitute? She is, essentially, having sex for financial gain.
I heard a quote once. "Men don't pay prostitutes to sleep with them. They pay them to leave afterwards." I think that's true for some men. That the appeal isn't just "sex", but sex without entanglements, without complications.

I must be different for I just take the question at face value...wouldI pay for it..and again its No. Not for any moral reason, not for any ego, not for this or that. I just dont think its worth paying for.. I migh tbe a very different Ogre.. but i do like sex..but its not the be all and end all of life.
The fact that so many rule their lives for it or by it or because of it amuses me.
