this is a delicious cake and tastes nothing like the creamsicle cake in the box mix-it's so much better! this will remind you of the orange creamsicle ice cream bars and can also be made as a sugar free cake that tastes just as good as the regular recipe. great summer time cake!

1 (18oz.) lemon cake mix
1 envelope unsweetened orange kool aid
3 eggs
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 pkgs. (3oz) orange gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cold water
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding
1 (8oz) cool whip- thawed

In a mixing bowl, combine cake mix, drink mix, eggs, water and oil. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Pour into a 9x13 baking pan (does not have to be greased). Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Using a meat fork, poke holes in cake.

Cool for 30 minutes. In bowl, dissolve 1 pkg. gelatin in boiling water. Once it's completely dissolved, stir in the cold water. Pour over cake, cover and refrigerate for two hours.

In mixing bowl, combine milk, vanilla, pudding mix and the other dry gelatin. Beat 2 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes then fold in the cool whip. frost the cake with this.
keep refrigerated.

** for sugar free cake use sugar free jello's , sugar free instant pudding and "free" cool whip.

Here is a similar cake but with less "fat" and the sugar free version that jaycee4 mentioned;

* 1 box orange cake mix (Duncan Hines "Orange Supreme" works great!)
* 10-oz Diet Orange Soda, Diet 7-Up, or a similar Diet Soda
* 1 egg white
* 2 (4-serving) boxes fat-free, sugar-free orange JELL-O
* 1 box SF instant vanilla pudding
* 1 cup hot water
* 1 cup cold water
* 1 cup fat-free milk
* 1 tsp vanilla extract
* 1 cup fat-free cool whip, thawed
* 8.25-oz can mandarin oranges, drained and patted dry with paper towel.

Directions:

Mix cake mix, egg white and diet soda. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out smooth in a greased 9x13 pan. Take cake out of oven, and poke holes all over the top. Let cool. Stir 1 package of orange JELL-O into 1 cup hot water until dissolved, and then add 1 cup cold water. Pour entire mixture over cake. Refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours. Mix vanilla pudding mix and other pack of (dry) JELL-O together. Add 1 cup of fat-free milk and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Mix well. Fold in cool whip and use this mixture to frost cake. Top with mandarin oranges. Keep cake refrigerated.

Gee gals! That sounds like such a lovely refreshing dessert! And just in time for the nice weather too! I also like the jello pies for the hot weather. Tasty and very light!

Jaycee4 that sounds quite yummy. I remember eating dreamcicles as a kid and loving them. Recently, we got an Orange Julius in a town I used to live in, in the local Dairy Queen. I also loved those. I might be wrong, but someone told me those were just orange juice blended with non-dairy creamer.

I am trying this cake. Thanks

You can top that off with an ice cream drink.
In a blender, add a bunch of vanila ice cream, blend until smooth
Add as much vodka as you can handle, blend some more.
Add C-plus orange pop and blend again.
Serve in a big glass with a straw.

Orange Creamsicle Cake (from scratch)
Serve 8 -16; 1-2 cakes

Cake
13 tbsp. butter
1-1/8 cups sugar
3 eggs
2-1/4 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1-2/3 tbsp. orange juice concentrate
2 tbsp. water
1/2 cup 2% milk, plus
1 tsp. 2% milk
1/8 cup canola oil
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. orange extract

Frosting
8 oz. Neufchatel cheese, softened
16 oz. sifted powdered sugar
1/4 cup orange juice concentrate
Mandarin orange, for garnish

Preheat oven to 350°F. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Combine the 1-2/3 tbsp. orange juice concentrate, water, milk, canola oil, vanilla and orange extract. Add dry ingredients and wet ingredients, alternately, to butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Divide batter among two 9”sprayed cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre of cake comes out clean. Remove from oven, cool, and remove from pans.

Frosting: Cream the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and orange juice concentrate together until well blended.

Frost cake, either 2 separate cakes, or if you are brave, as a 2 layer cake! Garnish with mandarin oranges.
