Just tossing this out there, but say L.A. wins the draft lottery. The Kings are loaded with young talent but desperately need a goalie. The Canucks meanwhile, need a complete overhaul. So how about Stamkos for Luongo? Would you make this trade if you were Nonis? If you were Lombardi?

Lets face it, the Canucks are in shambles and Stamkos is the type of player you could build a franchise around, a la Sidney Crosby. They also have Schneider, who is regularly touted as the best goalie not in the NHL, so there are two very young, very talented players to start a rebuilding formula around.
The Kings, on the other hand, are one of the West's "up-and-coming" teams. Yes, Stamkos would be a great fit with all their young talent, but it really doesn't address their most crucial need - goaltending. Is Ersberg the answer? Well, he won the job by default this year, as the Kings' SEVENTH goalie!

I think it could be a huge trade in the making.

i would make that trade if i were lombardi, not if i were nonis.i would take the best goaltender in the league over the a possible best offencive player any day.maybe for crosby,or ovy.stamkos wont be as good as either.

OK now it gets even MORE interesting. With TB winning the lottery - another team in desparate need of a goalie - and Luongo living in Florida in the off-season, amid rumours that his wife wants him to move back there to play, can you see TB giving up the first pick to Vancouver ... possibly throwing one of their big names into the mix in some kind of multi-player, blockbuster deal?

As a Kings' fan, I think the Kings also have a problem with their defensemen...way too many defense breakdowns all year. It's not all on their goaltenders (although I won't deny they have been below average in the goaltending department). I think they should give Ersberg a shot to win the job. The Kings should not pass up another scorer. They could use another scorer and another physical defenseman. I like the fact they are going with a youth movement. I'm not sold on Crawford as a coach though. He won in Colorado, but anyone could have won in Colorado with the talent they had years ago.

""As a Kings' fan...They could use another scorer and another physical defenseman"""

Good news. The next three top rated picks behind Stamkos are defencemen.
I'm not sold on Crawford either. I watched a number of his post game interviews this year and he seems to have changed into this blob of an empty suit kind of thing that doesn't really say anything in these long interviews.. He maybe needs to take a sabbattical from the NHL for awhile until all this Bertuzzi Moore stuff goes away.

"""...Bob McKenzie surveyed NHL scouts in the last week to put together a provisional top 10 ranking of the top prospects""":

Nucks don't need to hit the panic button by giving up one of probably the top 5 goalies around. They have about 17 million they can still spend this offseason with the cap reportedly to be at around 55 mill. They need to find and build another offensive line with some of that money. They need more offence and they need the real good defence that they have already to stay healthy. I don't think they need to blow that club up. They dropped 7 of their last 8. Canucks scored 10 goals in those 7 losses. Let their UFA's all go. All of them. Even Morrison who's really starting to get banged up the last couple of years.

Some of the GM's, Nonis included, are anticipating a rash of trades though before draft day.

Having said that though, if the husband is not where the wife wants him to be, it could be a long season next year in Vancouver for the fans if his mind's not totally on where it needs to be. He really did not play well at all coming down the last couple of weeks. His focus was not that great at a critical juncture in the season and hopefully for canucks fans, that's just a blip on the radar and not a sign of things to come next year.

"sorry no.still not trading luongo. "

He may hold the pistol though. If the persistent rumours about his wife wanting him out of Canada are true, then you've only got him in Vancouver for a maximum of two more years because no way does he sign an extension

Just to let you know, sly, I'm with you on this one - I would not trade Luongo. Period. As I state in the Canucks thread (other than the tongue-in-cheek comment at the end). But in talking with a couple of friends on the West Coast, they believe there is more to this Luongo thing than simply rumour. It is strange that his wife doesn't live in Vancouver, I'll say that much.

When you consider the rumours swirling around TB this spring, that Vinny apparently wants out (although granted, he denies the reports. It would have to be a sign him/trade him thing with Vinny, in order for Nonis to protect his asset. ) And the fact that they have sucked ever since getting rid of the one bona fide star goalie they ever had in Khabibulin, I could see some kind of blockbuster trade happening at the table.

I could certainly see it more if Nonis and Feaster weren't the two GMs involved, but the possibility is there.

assuming luongo wants out,i would only trade him to a team willing to give up goaltending in return(smith doesnt cut it).maybe something like biron, hartnel, carter, and a first from philly.i might bite on something like that.stamkos and smith our ramo, not a chance.i would only do this if i knew i had huet in my back pocket.you take the first trade and add in say malone and rolston, you have a playoff team.if i were nonis though i would be trying to find away to give luongo and his family some privacy.i imagine they want out it is because they just came from a state that wouldnt know who he was if he was handing out free geritol.to a province that knows who david booth is.i am sure its a little overwhelming.

it sounds good to say it...but in the long run...not a good trade

Defense and a goalie can take you along way in the playoffs. Stamkos and a sub par goalie wont bring you past 10th in the conference.

I dont consider Fluery a sub par goalie..nor did Coklin play like one either...PLUS..malkin and crosby got 2nd in the EAST..ya the brutal East... The west is alot tougher to climb. The Eastern conference with the exception of Montreal played terrible all year...For God sakes the Leafs were beating montreal and ottawa at the end...and look at the teams who made it...Boston? Philly? come on...Steve Yzerman could of come out of retirement and led a bunch of highschool kids past these teams lol

I guess it depends how you look at it. No team in the West missed the playoffs with with 43 wins.
And while Fleury has been nothing short of sensational since his injury, he was nothing better than average before that. As for Conklin - I'm an Oiler fan: You'll never convince me that he's a good goalie lol. Smoke and mirrors man.

And if you don't like Pittsburgh as an example, how about Washington?

Anyway, The Stanmkos for Luongo thing is starting to get legs on the West Coast. Last I heard was first overall pick, another draft pick, Mike Smith and Dan Boyle for Luongo and the Sedins.
Like I said this morning at the water cooler - by the time a deal get done with Vancouver, if one ever does, it will likely involve 6-8 players.

Again, although I wouldn't trade Luongo if I were Nonis, I don't see that trade as being too bad for the 'Nucks, but I'd want another roster player (forward) in the deal instead of the second draft pick.

I'll tell you one thing: if Nonis doesn't shake the foundations of that team this summer, he SHOULD be turfed. He hasn't done a thing in 2 years. He brought in Luongo and figured that was enough. Well, it was proven this year that even Luongo can't help that sinking ship.
He's got Roberto for two more years and that's it. That's not a lot of time to build a valid Stanley Cup contender.

i think you under value the sedines amd over value boyle.not to mention i would not at all feel comfortable going into next season with smith as my number one.

"i think you under value the sedines amd over value boyle.not to mention i would not at all feel comfortable going into next season with smith as my number one. "

You could be right on both counts: The Sedins have proven beyond a doubt in my mind that while thery are ok in the regular season, they are NOT leaders. They basically disappear in the playoffs (15 goals between them in 86 career playoff games). So do I undervalue them or do you overvalue them? Debatable.

Dan Boyle is a consistent 50-point-per-year defenceman.

And I would feel quite comfortable with Mike Smith as my starting goalie for a year or two while I compelte a rebuilding process and work Cory Schneider in gradually as the team's number-one goalie

i guess we will have to see.lol.i agree with you about the sedins not being leaders to an extent, but they wouldnt have to be in T.B.i wouldnt throw dice on smith when goaltending is the most important position in hockey.if giving up those names i wouldnt be throwing dice at all.i would want provin talent between the pipes.boyle is a goos p.p guy,but he is suspect in his own end and at 6 million per,i dont want that against my cap.van has a very good D.THEY JUST NEED SOME OFFENCIVE DEPTH.

The trade likely won't happen anyway ... but I'd really like to see Stamkos in the West, just to be able to watch him play more than once a year. This kid is the real deal.

Doesn't sound like a very supportive wife. Maybe Luongo should trade HER, lol. Seriously, she married a hockey player. What did she think was going to happen? Maybe she should have raised these concerns before he went to Vancouver? Of course, I don't know the whole story, but really. If she is making his professional life miserable, that needs to stop. He's busy making millions so she can live her lavish lifestyle down in Florida, and I'm sure it's no easier for him being so far from his family while doing it.

Canucks were looking for a #1 goalie: Luongo fit the bill. What the Canucks need is offense, and it is better to trade for players who have not been producing as they should and receive scoring talent using the trade, or buy a good scorer with the unloading of Naslund and other players who earn too much for what they are currently worth.

Stamkos, StLouis for Luongo and Ohlund. Thats the only way this trade could happen. I hope that it doesn't happen though. I guess we'll see what position TB and VAN are in come trade deadline this year. Pundit are you starting to believe my Cory Schneider hype? I really do think he could be a top 5 one day though.

Yosher, "your" Cory Schneider hype has been around for years, dude. I lived on the West Coast until last October.
Do I think he could be top-5 some day? Yes, the raw talent is there, but it will never happen in the city where goalies go to die

The biggest reason I think a trade like this can happen has notheing whatsoever to do with Cory Schneider (In fact, I think Smith would have to be a part of the trade and he would become Vancouver's #1 goalie for the immediate future). I think this trade has legs simply because of the Luongo factor. He's only got 2 years left on his contract. It's highly unlikely that the Vancouver Canucks can build any kind of contender in that time – even more so now that they have Gillis as a GM – and Luongo wants to play for a winner. Most improtantly though, is the spouse factor. His wife is from Florida. His wife and child live in Florida. His wife does not like Canada and does not like the fact that her husband spends his winters there.
