many ancient prophecys tell of this date as being the begining of a new age or the end of an age (not the end of the world as some would have you believe).
What do you think is going to happen? the two exact dates I've seen repeated in many predictions are 21st dec 2012 and 23rd dec 2012.
I for one am certain that the biggest event in human history so far will occur, what that is exactly I am not sure. | |

We've been a bit more patient. We managed to get through 5757, Heinz-Heinz without spilling tomato sauce all over. We'll make it! 
My prediction is that nothing unusual will happen. Just another calendar will need to be converted. In this case the Aztec. The rest of us will do fine. Even any remaining Aztecs will muddle through!  | |

Also, I will become a sage that year - at least that's what an Astrologer told a family member who acquired about the year. I can't see it happening... though I'm optimistic about the breeze. | |

As for the actual destruction... So many people have given so many dates/years.. one day someone will have to get it right.... whatever the cause might be.
But they're being pretty stupid giving an exact date because mathematically speaking.... they will fail.
That's why i'll say... in the year 3429... the world will end. (hey i'm not going to be around to look stupid so i don't care) | |

Well, 1999 came and went but we're all still here. The earth still turns and the sun still rises so I guess there is really nothing to look forward to in 2012. Unless there is some solid scientific evidence that would point toward a guaranteed cataclysmic occurrence such as NASA finding a huge Texas size rock coming towards us or something else of similar proportions, I wouldn't worry too much about it. | |

Related matter could be being discussed in a Religion forum about Strange Things Going on in our Galaxy. . . started by touchsamadhi.
I did challenge my Bio. teacher, last year, with the idea that our magnetic North Pole is moving. He, as well as another friend, says it always has. I am under the impression that it is moving faster than previously.
At the Dinosaur Museum, in Drumheller, AB. they have a display that shows the Earth tilted at different axis through time. I was fascinated with the tilts. Perhaps we are tilting, again !
I would not want to be living on a fault line or waterfront property, until after 2012, however !

Can you reference these "ancient prophecies"? Seriously, I'm interested, but I need something solid to review. Otherwise it's just a bunch of New Age nonsense with quasi-scientific language used to dress up non-events and extremely remote coincidences. Posted: 4/9/2008 8:01:45 AM | The world as we know it – will (probably) end approximately between the year 2250-2280 A.D. Don’t ask me how I know this.  
So, unless you live another 242 to 272 years – you won’t be here to witness the end of the world. However, the big burning ball may have smaller but more than regular and seemingly catastrophic “bursts” prior to that but I am confident that - the world will be spared and survive.
I must add that – the future cannot be predicted with accuracy. Smaller alterations/ adjustments in something that is already in motion can have huge butterfly effect on previously presumed ultimate scenarios. So, no human with any amount of supernatural powers can predict future with absolute accuracy and certainty. So, it is highly sensible and practical (IMO) to prepare for the worst while being optimistic and hope for best.
2012 will most likely be just another year. Unless some crazy dude   in a powerful position decides to misuse his/her powers and decides that the year should have some significance in our history. We have seen crazy dudes like that in the past and the present – so why not in the future?? 
As far as nature disasters concern – the world has taken a lot and can yet take more until doomsday.

One is a Doomsday approach i'm sure you are very familiar with the other is that the sun will be affected by astral planes and a harmonic convergance will occur that will change the world as we know it. the latter has to deal with a solar alignment that happens once every 872 years.
Now in accuality it's the end of the mayan calender which started 3113 B.C. JNow the 23 is when the actual calendar changes, according to many anthopologists who study the mayan culture. the 21st is a date that one specific researcher(can't remember his name) believes it will really happen and that hundreds of others are wrong. those hundreds will not agree to this one person research.
there is a gigantic market for both sides. I'm under my own opinion that if it happens it happens, why worry yourself over it. I do know that if you go to Amazon.com that you will find over 100 books on this fabled day. I thinks it's just people trying to cash in on it. cause as we all know, if people fear it they will spend ungodly amounts of money to prevent it.
But like any other end of days story, as soon as it passes and we are all still here. I'm sure there will be thousands of people sayiong they misinterpreted the orgianl text and it's coming again soon.
According to Nostrudamus the world ends in3797, not that i care, cause the world will end when it ends and there is nothing we can do about it. | |

How can you be CERTAIN anything will happen?
If everyone is saying something "BIG" is going to happen, then I'd say it will be the return of Jesus, which means the end of the world.
But as people have predicted it and the Bible says it will come sooner than we expect, that kinda makes me think it'll end sooner.
I've heard the Roman Catholic church have it all written down that it was prophesised the return of Jesus would be in 2012.
However, I'm not RC and don't stand for some of their beliefs.
If you're referring to Nostradamus, isn't there many prophecies he's got wrong?
So, I'd say either nothing, or the end. Just make sure you're saved. | |

Recent Astronomical Observations indicate that there is some very high relative velocity debris out in the infinite reaches of space. Two events in particular are worth looking at. SN1987A and CassA. It appears that when some supernovae explode, they do not just become nebulae or clouds of debris from which new suns and planets may form. I do not wish to refute that planetary formation theory, I simply suggest that there are other theories which may also be true, perhaps more true than that one. Accepting the idea that we live in a God created universe, in which new heavens and new earths may arise, we may conclude that everything is recycled. It may still be well beyond our embrionic god minds to comprehend how the debris from supernovae may be decellerated and parked in orbits around stable stars in or on which corporial bodies or tabernacles of flesh may reside to house the eternal spiritual offspring of God our Heavenly Father. Not to connect the dots and see the possibilities, however, is hardly excusable. Let he who has ears to hear or eyes to see understand.
The recently acknowledged principle of gravitational accelleration or sing shot effect which has begun to be used to accellerate our exploritory efforts of our little solar system, has obviously always existed. To put it as simply as I am able, it is that when one celestial object is moving with a velocity in excess of that we regard as escape velocity of another celestial object, Because the amount of time that approach velocity may be increased, exceeds the amount of time during which velocity may be decreased, there will be a net increase in relative velocity of both celestial objects.
What this means is that if no intelligent intervention occurs to utilize other forces to counter this effect, orbital velocities are extreemly unlikely. Things must either collide and merge or fly off faster than they approached.
If the Sun's light can be diminished by a cloud of water vapor, how much more might it be diminished by the condensation of a small fraction of the debris from a supernova passing through the Solar System? Might not the moon be heated past the color of blood by the impact of trillions of particles of such debris impacting its surface?

Tribulation mean great distress. The end of the world means raining fire, we'll all suffer.
I haven't had a look at Revelation for a while, but my memory of the end days is that Christians will be persecuted and killed off by all the non-believers, then the remaining will worship the beast, then God will come down, kill them all and send them and Satan to Hell and raise up the Christians.
There's something I'm not too sure about. Is it true that the gates of Hell aren't open yet? Because all has not yet been completed and will not be complete until the end of this world. At the moment Satan and his demons roam the Earth, then Jesus will come back and throw him and his followers into Hell.
That's right isn't it?

He did not break them down, He simply had the key and turned it in the lock. Since this must include the unbelievers, it is quite likely that the unbelievers will simply call it something else. Near Death Experience, Out of Body Experience, or simply resuscitation.
Humans are enduring much tribulation right now especially in the middle east, the part of the earth in which the authors of the scriptures were most particularly concerned.
One of the problems in this time is the conditioning we have received to believe lies. The exaggerations of the number of crashes which result in fire or explosion in movies, as compared to number of real auto accidents which result in fire or explosion; for example, conditions us to seek greater excitement in life. The exaggerations deafen us to the still small voice and divert us from recognizing the gentle inspiration. When we do hear and heed it, we frequently fail to give credit to God for such inspiration. | |

Actually I've been doing some looking into this with some highly respected Mathematicians and Numeratological Anthrotheologists over at the University.
It's all very fascinating, really. At least I think so.
Take a look at this:
We start by adding the digits the date:
12/21/2012
1+2+2+1+2+0+1+2=11
Then we start counting letters in key words related to the prophecy:
There are eleven letters in the words 'Jesus Christ'.
Hmmmmm.
'Jesus Christ' (11 letters) is two words...
1+1=2
That proves something, I'm sure, but hold on, it gets better.
'The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse'
This phrase has 27 letters.
2+7=9
The phrase is six words.
9+6=15
1+5=6!
Now add 'Jesus Christ' (2)
6+2=8
8 = The EXACT number of letters in the word 'Winnipeg' AND 'Manitoba'.
8+8=16
1+6=7
'God' has three letters...
7-3=4
