| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/7/2008 9:13:36 PM | I've seen a lot of threads spread about POF about people complaining about eHarmony, and to be honest I never really bothered reading any of them. So when I saw an ad for the Australian version of eHarmony I thought I'd join and see what the fuss was about. After filling out the personality survey, I received this response:
eHarmony is based upon a complex matching system developed through extensive research with married couples. One of the requirements for successful matching is that participants fall within certain defined profiles. If we find that we will not be able to match a user using these profiles, we feel it is only fair to inform them early in the process.
We are so convinced of the importance of creating compatible matches to help people establish happy, lasting relationships that we sometimes choose not to provide service rather than risk an uncertain match.
Unfortunately, we are not able to make our profiles work for you. Our matching model could not accurately predict with whom you would be best matched.
Sorry if this at all sounds like a self-pity thread, but I thought it was rather hilarious.
I'm like that guy in the episode of The Love Boat where their magical love computer can't find a match for him.

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/7/2008 9:35:36 PM | OMG that is completely absurd!!!!
I've heard a lot of negativity about eharmony and that response truely takes the cake.
Could you imagine if a really overly sensitive person got that response? It would be enough to make them stick their head in the oven!
Eharmonys loss! | |

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 12:03:57 AM | | I had the exact response from them SAIUN, that was going back a while ago now, I didnt take it personally.... and I wasnt going to be paying to be a member anyway so it didnt really matter. | |

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 12:18:50 AM | Ive also heard lots of negative things about eharmony, & a lot of people have received exactly the same response as you,OP,in that there's no one suitable........ Wtf? How does a dodgy site like that exist?? Lucky you have a sense of humour-- keep smilin, | |

magical love computer
I have an idea for a magical love computer. It's a drink machine done up to look like a fancy computer and instead of drinks to choose from it has different types of partners. You put in your money and press your partner type and it disspenses two beers (it will do that no matter what you press) or maybe one beer and one stoli. Magical

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 4:02:08 AM | I joined.... spent 45 mins filling out various questionnaires, to find that I had 5 matches living in Victoria... one solitary Melbournite among them.
It's either bereft of profiles or I'm just too unique for my own good.
I can feel the net profile grim reaper a-coming to take me away :o)

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 6:05:02 AM | I've never heard of this???
Do they have any religious affiliations??
The reply you got, from the first sentence, sounds like, "you don't fit in to any of our threesomes!" (married couples)
The second sentence sounds like " you are not ..... (pick religion)... so bugger off!
Third sentence........ " you sound like you're looking for a bonk . You're not for us! "
Knowing nothing about eHarmony, is this a religious thing???? Tell me more!
|
| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 9:07:54 AM | Not religious missmilly... I don't know much about it other than they base their 'profile' of you on a series of questions (a lot) that they've identified are significant in terms of 'relationship success'.
I think they derived or extracted these questions from some big studies (conducted for other reasons) run by universities, family/relationship counselling services, etc etc. They might have dipped into statistical research too? 'Happiness' indices and the like, and factored in age breakdowns of 'satisfaction' and it's sources. etc etc.
Scientific! Arranged marriages with a 'known' probability of success. I read an article months ago when this style of matchmaking (they aren't the only ones doing it) started to get some momentum overseas.
I'm sure there are people here with more up to date information than mine... perhaps they'll post.
As an aside missmilly... an off topic one too... (I can't message you privately - your message rules judge me unsuitable. Another example of technological wisdom perhaps?) But I wanted to say how disappointed I was that your thread got deleted. Seems to me there are some mean spirited people lurking here... perhaps they, whoever 'they' are, answered your question though?)

Which thread of Missmilliy's got deleted?
"Are there cliques on POF?"
|
| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/8/2008 7:45:56 PM | Same old same old. You spend forever filling out all the questions (and run late for work lol) then they want you to pay to join up to meet all those soulmates who are just hanging around waiting for me to fork out my hard earned bucks..... nah I think I'll just stay here, it's more fun and ITS FREE :)

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/10/2008 7:26:39 AM | | I thought it was somewhere you go to buy dates...not unlike eBay, Craig! | |
|
| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/10/2008 3:45:15 PM | eharmony is huge over here, and even more so in the States, and I know more than a few people who filled out the required questionnaires on their famed free trial periods, only to be told they were deemed 'un-matchable', lmao.
I filled it out too, and was inundated with matches from almost everywhere, except for my own geographical region. That aside, the gentlemens' profiles that they did send my way showed we had either nothing, or very little in common.
So much for their acclaimed methods of finding you the perfect mate... While I am happy for anyone who has found their mate there (or elsewhere), I think they're pretty much bunk.

| eHarmony strikes again! Posted: 4/11/2008 5:25:41 AM | Hi Lyingcheat, Tried to message you my email address. Got the response "you're only looking for local people".
Thanks for the feed back on "eHarmony". I love to be informed about new religions/groups. I find the whole subject fascinating being I having no religious ties.
Thanks for your feedback on the deleted topic!!! We can't help who we find interesting, thought provoking or challenging! I guess some people are just bitter! Always look forward to hearing your opinion on varied topics! People who challenge my thoughts are always welcome!
