| Where do you see yourself in 5 years Posted: 4/11/2008 2:21:22 AM | ...in five years.
I know it is one of the dullest of questions in a job interview, but I am interested to know how forumites see their life panning out.
Some people I know are studying, paying debts off, others are raising children etc...most are looking for someone to share their life with.
But while we are waiting, do you have a defined plan for what happens next, or do you just go with the flow and wonder how you got there?

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 2:46:41 AM | I really have no idea.
I finish my uni course in two months. I've been so wrapped up in that, that I haven't yet figured out what to do next. I'd like to continue my studies but funding isn't so easy to come by umless you're doing something that the government want you to do. That would take me down the teaching route and I don't know if I have the patience to teach a bunch of kids that would rather be somewhere else.
Worst case scenario? I go back to my old job and the last five years have been a complete waste of time except that I'll have letters after my name. Whoop dee doo.
EDIT: The partner thing didn't even cross my mind! I haven't had a serious relationship in the last 5 years, I don't expect that that will change either. I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that bit, can't decide if it's a blessing or a curse. *trudges back to nun camp*

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 4:26:28 AM | Ideally i'd love to go into adult education and get a degree in something meaningless which i have no intention of ever using whilst the tax payer funds it all...would'nt that be fantastic!!
Back to reality i'll still be plodding away giving 40% tax to people who think work is beneath them.

Scenario 5 Rocking backwards and forwards wearing moms dress.
didn't you already do that a couple of years ago? or was it your uncle's dress?
quite honestly? i have absolutely no idea...
if i take a step back 5 years there's no way on earth i would have ever imagined i would be where i am now, or would go through what i have been through...
all i hope is the the next five years are a bit happier than the last 5.

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 8:17:56 AM | Interesting replies as always. When I was studying in New York I went to a seminar on Positive Mental Attitude run by a guy called Zig Ziggler (loads of books and stuff available)...some of it stayed with me.
He used the analogy beating the world archery champion in a competition. Obviously you could not be expected to hit the target more successfully than the world champion...unless the world champion was blindfolded, spun round and disorientated. How could he hit a target he could not see?
How do you get what you want, and reach your goals if you do not set yourself targets?
Another story:- Your boss phones you up and invites you to three days all expenses paid trip to St Tropez. Sun, sea, luxury hotel - the works. The limo picks you up tomorrow morning at 10am. You accept obviously. Then you stop and think.... "Hell, I have to go shopping for sun tan oil. Need a new dress- get some ironing done, pack, arrange for the dog to be taken care of, get my legs waxed, finish the report for the deadline...hide the children under a relatives bed....whatever
Do you call back and say "sorry I am not going to be able to go?"
Or do you accomplish more in the next twelve hours than ever before?
Live everyday as if you are going to St Tropez tomorrow...work plan and organise, and pretty soon you will be able to go to St Tropez any time you want.
Works for me.(And has done for about 20 years)

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 8:50:43 AM | In five years time I simply hope I would be sharing my life with someone, I am pretty happy with everything else and will be working hard and using a PMA to keep it that way. wow I have just thought my daughter will be nine, I cant wait to see how she changes and grows....
lots to look forward to I think

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 9:00:06 AM | Prob still visiting POF
Nah my life is VERY happy as it is now, and to honest i wouldnt be upset if its still the same in 5 years.. i have my kids and my home and my job, i have enough money to support those three things.. so WHY CHANGE IT!!

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 10:53:59 AM | Miz Understood,
Excellant and in amongst those 20 years it strikes me that you are the sort of person that has treated people as you wish to be treated no matter what?
I tend to not look too far forward now, just live each day as it comes with making financial provision for my ex wife and children a priority just in case. Take postiive opportunities as they come, respect other people as being the role model for the most important people in my life ( my children) means a great deal to me. Being true to myself.

Failing that living life as i do now - quality times with good friends and family. working for myself doing ajob of real value ! and not a salary slave.

| Where do you see yourself Posted: 4/11/2008 2:59:11 PM | I have problems figuring out what is going to happen tomorrow never mind in g0d knows how many tomorrows. So I think I'll set my sails and see where I end up.. that is if the wind actually bothers to blow away from where I am rather than back towards here..
I'm a tad confused today.. New phone and no sim card...yet.. Hmmmm?

| Where do you see yourself in 5 years Posted: 4/11/2008 3:50:10 PM | | The next 5 years???? If we all live in the moment and make the best of each and every day what does 5 years ahead mean....Nothing I am afraid to say...Today is all there is..all else is memory or conjecture...Making the best of each day almost guarantees happiness in future with no regrets.. | |

| Where do you see yourself in 5 years Posted: 4/12/2008 2:30:33 AM | | Heres my advice: If ever asked that question DO NOT say in bed with your wife to the interviewer, funny as it may be it will go down like teh hindenberg x | |

| Where do you see yourself in 5 years Posted: 4/12/2008 3:29:11 AM | Ironically, it is almost 5 years to the day since I came out of prison, and life for me is now great. I have a flat, a career and my relationship with my family is fantastic. I work for the NHS so I'm not that well paid but the most important thing is I am very happy. Still single but not even bothered by the fact
Where do I see myself in another 5 years? Definitely still involved in the Drug and Alcohol field, probably with a better paid job though. Definitely out of Salford as well.
Life is a funny old game, I think for some people you have to go through some sh1t times before you find happiness
