| Smoothies ? Posted: 4/12/2008 3:06:09 PM | I wasn't really sure under which heading I should pose this question but 'snacks' seemed the most apt.
I'm looking for suggestions on which are the best fruit combinations for making the perfect and most heavenly smoothie ever.
Also I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a vegetable smoothie ?
I'm aware of the Spanish drink Gazpacho but aren't tomatoes fruits ?
Thank you for your suggestions

| Smoothies ? Posted: 4/12/2008 5:19:47 PM | It's not quite a fruit combination but I used to like a banana and peanut butter smoothie. Milk, banana and a spoon of peanut butter to taste. Yumm!
I love banana and raspberry with milk too. How about mango with pineapple juice?

| Smoothies ? Posted: 4/12/2008 5:45:56 PM | I love smoothies, too, and here's a couple I make that the grandkids like, too.
For myself, I love the taste of orange (or tangerine) and chocolate together, so I use orange or tangerine juice (Tropicana makes a great blend), and chocolate syrup, orange sherbert or chocolate ice cream, and ice, and blend it all together.
For the kids, I make a strawberry one, with frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries, milk or juice, and ice. One of them also likes a bit of chocolate syrup in this mix, too. Also, one of my grandkids likes vanilla, a lot, and I often add a tiny bit of vanilla extract to hers, maybe 2 or three drops, and that adds that vanilla fragrance and taste.
One of the nice things about smoothies is that you can add protein powder, with little or no taste added in, if you need the extra protein. I rarely eat red meat, and I don't like the beans/soy/peanut butter that one is supposed to substitute for that, so the powder (from a health food store, or Trader Joe's) works fine.

| Smoothies ? Posted: 4/12/2008 6:56:50 PM | My two favourites are strawberry/banana/mango, and pineapple/orange/passion fruit.
Frozen strawberries, frozen mangoes, and chilled (not frozen bananas) individually blended into smoothies, the strawberries and mangoes with a splash of lemon and lime juice respectively, a little agave nectar to sweeten the strawberries if necessary, and maybe a little water if needed, and the bananas with just a little water.
Make them thick enough to layer, and layer them with the banana in between the strawberry and the mango. That way you can get the individual tastes, or a blend, through a straw.
For the orange/pineapple/passion fruit, frozen chunks of pineapple, with a little orange juice (I like freshly squeezed), and a splash of passion fruit juice/nectar.
And then of course, there is the Sharon fruit/wild blueberry (which, I guess, makes it "my three favourites").
