betting is as follows for the competition and i find it hard to believe germany are the favourites although they could bring 11 ppl who have never played soccer and probably still reach the final.i want opinions on whos going to win it.personally the way croatia outplayed england gives them a great chance, portugal have ronaldo and are always in the last 4 [at the expense of england ] but i think its going to be similar to the time greece won it and im going for the outsiders poland.
Germany 4/1
Italy 6/1
Spain 6/1
France 8/1
Portugal 8/1
Croatia 12/1
Holland 12/1
Czech Republic 14/1
Switzerland 20/1
Greece 25/1
Sweden 25/1
Russia 28/1
Poland 33/1
Turkey 33/1
Romania 40/1
Austria 80/1

Portugal all the way, but the way they have been playing and how they qualified doesn't show me that they can do it. Ronaldo is certainly not a one man team.

Please bring back Pauleta and Figo!

the English will support Spain.

recently British TV (BBC?) has launched a video bidding them to support us, because they did not qualify.

i have seen it, and may i add it is silly, you know, not only have we got bullfighting and flamenco music but many other things

as for Figo returning, well he has been one of the best footballers, but right now he is shite

ummm so just because the way Croatia played ONE game vs England clearly gives them a great chance? Mate you have missed out the fact the Croatians will miss a vital piece to their attack in Eduardo. May only be one player but his presence is absolutely crucial to deter plenty of defenders and give time for the midfield to progress further up especially their fullbacks.

Germany is favored partially for 2 reasons. Their location and their passage. They have by far the most favorable passage out of all the other teams, locked into an easy group on paper.

Long shots for me would have to be the Czech's. I still fancy them to do well in Euro Tournaments rather than World Cup level.

Price on Italy and France are far too short considering the group they are in.

Can't discount the Greeks as they play the best 4-5-1 formation out of any of the nations currently mentioned. Although they played a friendly vs Portugal, they did show class there. I also wonder what Scolari is up to, at times I feel he is just purposely messing up the Portugese for the sake of Brasilians.

no i thought croatia battered ye twice and didnt play one game, more like 10.as for eduardo lol.he is about as crucial to them as he is to arsenal.NOT VERY!.i wonder how many times commentators on bbc and itv will still mention 1966 even though england are not in it and its not even the world cup.all the papers 49 days to go and no england in the comp,48 days etc etc.papers build up the england team for an almighty fall and i love it when it happens.will be a poorer competition without british and irish teams in it and as much as i dislike northern ireland they really deserved to get there.McClaren or capello who will be the worst english manager of all time i wonder!capello plays as negative as "the special one" and dont think they will qualify for world cup either.come on poland the irish B team,or should that be A-team now lol

now you seriously are sarcastic "as for eduardo lol.he is about as crucial to them as he is to arsenal.NOT VERY!."
say that to any croatian and they'd laugh at you.
how the hell can you compare him playing for Arsenal to that of the national team. He struggled to settle into England so it is completely different to rate him in the EPL scale as well as the National scale. You do realize Mr Eduardo did score 12 goals in qualifiers from which 8 were game winners.
Croatia are not the same team that played England these days, their friendly games looked terrible, both mentally and physically.

Holland are incapable of keeping their discipline and are always fighting among themselves so won't get out of their group. Croatia will do well, they remind me of the Czech team in Euro 96, only with more technical skill. Who will win is a tough one to call, but if I had to put money on it I'd go with Italy.

Since I am Italian I have to say Italy though they are so noted for slow starts. They can't afford to start slow this time around

Germany - Good defence, solid midfield, Ballack back on form, prolific up-front. Probably joint favourites with Italy.
Italy - World champions, not too many retirements. Strong all over the park. Ageing back four may be a problem.
Spain - They've got the players to do it, but I think they're a little lightweight. Still, they have several players in the form of their lives and should make the semis at least.
France - Quality throughout the line-up, good structure but a few key players out of form. Probably third favourites nonetheless.
Portugal - Yes, Ronaldo is good (not as good as he's made out to be) but he can't carry and ageing team without an effectual striker. Be surprised to see them in the final.
Croatia - Lots of creative players but not always much penetration. They'll be pretty to watch but won't make it past the quarters.
Netherlands - Still not sure of their best formation. Van Basten was a fantastic player but not such a great coach. Doesn't enjoy the confidence of the squad. Could be high profile early casualties.
Czech Republic - They were the best team at Euro 2004 and should have won it. Solid at the back and in midfield but may lack creativity without the injured Rosicky. Koller and Baros up-front are both past it. Quarters at best.
Switzerland - Not as poor as their co-hosts but no great shakes. Still, the back four is pretty good, Cabanas, Vonlanthen, Barnetta and Yakin are useful creative players and Alexander Frei will always be a goal threat. A surprise run to the semis, backed by their home support and canny manager, isn't out of the question.
Greece - Blessed to win last time. They won't repeat that success but much of the team which frustrated Europe last time out remains in place and in Gekas they have a genuine goalscorer. Might squeeze into the quarters.
Sweden - They'll always carry a threat up-front but the defence looks creaky and the manager's lack of adventure will be their downfall. Possible group stage exit.
Russia - Manager Hiddink is a past master at triumphing against the odds in tournament football and is team is by no means devoid of talent, especially in the final third. Anything further than the quarters may be asking too much, though.
Poland - Mediocre at best. Home after round one, although a win against Austria might make things interesting.
Turkey - Good coach, good strikers but don't generally travel well. Quarter finals will represent an achievement.
Romania - Breezed through qualifying and boast quality throughout the side with the likes of Contra, Chivu, Dica and Mutu. Not a weak link to be seen. They could really upset the apple-cart in the group of death and the semis are a realistic target.
Austria - Oh dear. Worst hosts ever. They're so unfancied that you feel as though they may just spring an upset according to Sod's Law. But I can't see it.

I am a yank & I agree that our National team being in the top 10 was a joke. Obviously someone at FIFA was getting paid..

Did anybody have to read this post couple of times to truly understand what this guy is saying? No chance the Greeks are going to make it to the semi this year, but if it makes you feel good saying it then go ahead.
