| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 8:12:15 PM | OK here's my problem.
When do I tell women that I am a Doctor?
Problem 1....When revealing this too soon I often get the shallow, all I am looking for is a man with money, type.
Problem 2....If I wait too long and then tell them that I am an obgyn, for some reason that freals most women out.
It's a catch 22 and I don't really know what to do anymore.
Oh and I just told everyone here what I do didn't I? LOL
Seriously ladies, what is your take on this?

As for the occupation...It is a stereotype carried over from decades ago, that only players go into obgyn because of all the hoochie they get to see.
Heck, if I had dated you when I had my kids, you could have given me a discount, and maybe even figured out how the hell to get them out sooner...dang kids hung on as long as they could..not fair

Posted: 4/15/2008 8:19:32 PM | When you get the feeling that the women you are with likes you regardless of knowing what you do, or could care less what you do. If you spring it on them and they still act the same towards you, then you know you have a keeper!

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 8:25:54 PM | Well that's a good question, BUT...when will you tell them you're Married? I would think that's probably a bit MORE important info than your profession

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 8:26:04 PM | The doctor part is impressive to just about all women. Let them know you're a doctor from the get-go, then once you get a little more involved, let them know you're an OB/GYN. The gold diggers will run screaming for the hills. The ones who are really worth it will stick around.
Seriously, though? The best time to reveal what you do for a living is when you're asked. No more, no less.

Ok then. Sooo.. Successful doctors NEED to go on free dating websites to find a date? Huh?
Ok then...good luck with that little story!

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 8:52:10 PM | Ugh. I was about to give the OP some great advice how to handle the problem of stating his profession, but married and trolling is so low I wouldn't care if he was...well...Hugh Jackman *and* a brain surgeon to boot. It's still nasty. Bah!
Edit: A REAL doctor would know that smoking is harmful to his health, and wouldn't do it.

I would tell them right away when you first break into conversation...ask her what she does and she'll likely reciprocate. Then you can say (in a bashful tone) that your a Doctor.
She'll think "Wow! Intelligent, Successful and s great sense of humility".

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 9:02:39 PM | I think if she asks you then you should tell her. I think you have enough experience to be able to weed out the shallow , looking for money types.
Frankly it wouldnt matter to me if I really liked the guy what he did for a living. If she is worth holding on to then it wont matter to her either.

Missed that i didnt look at his profile. In that case who gives a shit. Hope she see this.
Why bother telling the truth about anything if you cant tell the truth about your marital status.

If she is worth holding on to then it wont matter to her either Yeah, his wife probably thinks he's a REAL catch, but alas, she doesn't seem to have enough of his attention to HOLD on to.

LOL! Man you guys are harsh. So now a OBGYN can't smoke or come to a free dating site? LMAO! Sure he can come to a dating site...but if he is married or prefers not to say if he is, then he shouldn't expect us to give him advice on how to pick up women - jeez! RedC, I vote that he hangs around until at least midnight, just in case someone wants to help him find a quality woman to cheat on his wife with. Kisses to you, my Queen!

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 9:35:09 PM | | Yeah, I have to agree with the others. No amount of "I'm a doctor" or any other things (rich, 8 inch penis, or a god) is going to convince any "good" woman to either date or sleep with a guy. Might as well assume it's a hopeless case until no longer married. | |

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 9:50:45 PM | Wow! This is entirely original. Another 46 year old, "Prefer Not To Say" doctor, cruising a free site, tossing titles out as bait, yet acting modest about it.
*ponders momentarily just how many PhD. M.D.s, PhD. EDs, and PhD. J.D.s have posted in this thread so far*

Don't worry, Doc. Someone will come along, not notice that you are "Prefer Not To Say'd", and be duly impressed.

| When should I reveal what I do for a living? Posted: 4/15/2008 10:38:13 PM | Oh and I am two things......
1. recently divorced and raising my two children alone
2. first and foremost a human being. one with habbits and addictions (nicotine) also a person who is averaging between 50 and 60 hours a week working. therefore that's why i am here just checking out what this plentyoffish mess is all about because between working and giving my children all of my love and attention, i really have no time to go out.
man you guys are a rough crowd. lol

Posted: 4/15/2008 10:52:30 PM | i wouldn't put much thought into it. just spill it out whenever it shows on ur brain. people r going to do what people r going to do, and if this is a problem (i dont know why on earth it would be), then it's best u find out sooner than later what kind of person you are dealing with.
to me it would only mean free health care- if there would be a problem, u'd be the first to know, and also the one knowing how to fix it... LOLOL
don't hold back because people don't react the way you want them to, it makes for an easier sorting system, seems to me?

When you become one...........
or sht why wait--why don't you just announce it here in the forums--we won't tell.....
..When revealing this too soon I often get the shallow, all I am looking for is a man with money, type.
You have your age for dating set at 'over 18'...you'll probably find the youngins are interested in your wallet.
.If I wait too long and then tell them that I am an obgyn, for some reason that freals most women out.
Lighten the mood--tell them you do tricks too--like pulling a rabbit out--or the never ending handkerchief trick...
And always remember to take off your gloves...and no stirrups on the first date...
Oh and I just told everyone here what I do didn't I?
You're so smart I'd think you were a doctor

LETS ALL GIVE EM A WEGGGGIE
