| Quakes off the Oregon coastline, is it a new volcano/ Posted: 4/15/2008 8:33:18 PM | Over 600 hundred quakes of the Oregon coast. I was wonder if we are having the development of a new volcano off the Oregon coast. Anyone have any knowledge of the activity, or first hand information? Maybe, that is the reason the salmon are leaving the coastal area; too much warm water. I lived in Eugene for several years. | |

| Quakes off the Oregon coastline, is it a new volcano/ Posted: 4/16/2008 5:43:10 PM | I have done so, but; I not sure enough information is out, yet; to make a decision's. I know a little about volcanoes having taken classes in college. I also now this is very unusual activity. People in Oregon are talking about it, as well as in Washington State. A volcano building int Pacific coast would be devastating not to fishermen, but, all marine life. If it builds to be above the ocean, most of the west coast would in grave danger. If something happen there, how long until it happen in California, Montana, Washington and send tidal waves inland. What would happen if the super volcano in Yellowstone erupts we are doomed. | |

| Quakes off the Oregon coastline, is it a new volcano/ Posted: 4/16/2008 11:12:00 PM | If there is volcanic activity underneath the ocean sea floor, it will most likely take more than a few years for any of the new land formation to even peek above the surface of the ocean. We have a new island forming off of the Big Island, here in Hawaii; Loihi. I forget exactly how many years they've projected before it surfaces but it's thousands, and thousands. Fishing is a daily activity here as well and it's still a thriving business. We not only have Loihi, but we also have Kilauea dumping hot rivers of lava into the ocean as I type this. It's been going on since 1982. Don't stress it! I'd be much more worried about earthquakes resulting in tsunamis. | |

| Quakes off the Oregon coastline, is it a new volcano/ Posted: 4/17/2008 9:20:43 PM | The volcanoes in Oregon are different. they explode and are not shield volcanoes. They are composite volcanoes can reach miles high in a matter of a few years. A cinder cone volcano can grow very fast. In 1943 a farmer in Mexico say a small eruption in his field. It grew very fast and is now one of largest volcanoes in Mexico. The area in Oregon is cold water, part of the Japanese current, comparatively colder than Hawaii, although it warms the west coast to temperate level. Any lava flow six miles under the sea is going to warm the sea considerably as it rises. The heat is bound to affect the fish along the coast. These quakes have been happening since 1996. This particular series is unusual and has never been heard before.
