| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/16/2008 6:45:34 PM | Eat food additives (spices) therby creating a thermodynamic burn...the body will need to utilize more calories to process food and this will increase the metabolism, not sure if this is true, but some people I know have said this to be true; ingest calories earlier in the day(you dont want all that unecessary fat that will come if you eat too many calories); don't skip meals; eat enough foods; excericse in the morning; don't eat carbohydrates and fat in the same meal..try cold water, if you can handle it...I like hot water myself..the body will need to raise its temperature from the cold water intake and calories will be burned by doing so.
This is some things I found online you be the judge of its effectiveness

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/16/2008 6:48:01 PM | Assuming you don't have a disease affecting the rate, it is what it is.
To get rid of "loads of pounds" from over-eating, try under-eating, run a caloric deficit.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/16/2008 8:39:11 PM | | Very few foods actually speed up your metabolism, a lot of that is myth. BUT a good option is exchanging the foods you're eating now for snacks, for negative calorie ones. (As in, it takes your body more calories to break down the food than are in it.) Examples are celery, cucumber, etc... there aren't many. But you can snack on them till you're stuffed. | |
|
| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/16/2008 9:19:16 PM | people forget that when we feel hungry, we need to feed ourselves. its like when your cars running low on gas and the light comes on. LOL
healthier choices, eating more (but small portions) through out the day will shoot it up.
breakfast does make all the difference! nothing big, but even a slice of 12 grain toast, an orange or half of a grapefruit...usually does the trick to get your body going.
snacks like banana crisps, almonds, dried apricots, an apple....these could be snacks. a handful (not overflowing) whenever you're hungry, but again, watch the calories!!
eat when you're hungry, just don't overdo it. 10 almonds should be good. then an hour later, have an apple...then after that, have lunch...then a couple more snacks spaced out before dinner...the more you eat, the more your body is taking in and using as fuel, which in turn - speeds up your metabolism.
throw in some walking in the evening, and you will slowly start to see a difference. add pilates after if ya want. you just can't depend on changing your food habits and not take exercise into consideration. it won't work.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/16/2008 11:45:57 PM | I would recommend you see your doctor and get a series of blood test, especially for your thyroid & glucose, to rule out anything medical. If you do have a problem with your endocrine glands, which are hormones, then this will explain your weight gain. Regardless how you feel, exercise is still important, even if you're feeling, tired, fatique, muscles sore etc, since everyone needs to get the blood moving in our bodies.
As for foods, I would ask your doctor if the blood test come back negative, to be tested for food allergies.
I would also consider a naturopath doctor who does acupuncture, this is another way to help the body recover from all medical issues.
Good Luck | |

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 12:01:27 AM | Five or six small nutritionally balanced meals throughout the day aiming at a calorie intake of between no less and a couple of hundred calories more than your basal metabolic rate. Exercise with a balanced programme of resistance and cardiovascular activities.
Simple as that. You will do neither.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 2:48:24 AM | One tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil first thing in the morning and then again in the middle of the afternoon. You can use it in cooking, add it to a fruit smoothy or just eat it straight from the spoon.
Give it a try along with eating sensibly and living an active lifestyle and see the difference it makes. Available at your local health food store. Make sure to get the "extra virgin variety"!

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 9:25:42 AM | this is all really bad advice
this is only good post yet and the negative calorie foods post...(i/e apples and celery) ..

consuming cocunut oil is a LAXATIVE..dont try it.
|
| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 10:16:00 AM | I've taken about 4T/day of coconut oil, as "medicine", for months with no laxative effect.
I see that coconut can have a laxative effect, but it depends on dosage, and it's apparently doesn't cause diarrhea.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 10:50:31 AM | | I have to agree with ilovenutella pretty bad advice overall. Increase your metabolism with exercise and weight training. Feed from 5 to 6 times a day with a balance of proteins, grains, good fats and some carbs. Oils and such will not increase your metabolism just nonsense. Get a trainer and perhaps see a nutritionist for some sound advice. | |

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 12:30:19 PM | "Oils and such will not increase your metabolism just nonsense"
Please google "coconut oil metabolic rate", even recommended for hypothyroidism, which slows metabolism. It's not gonna race your metabolism, but apparently it can increase it. Plus it's just good food.
As I said in my post above, your base metabolic rate is pretty fixed so the whole tactic of "speeding up metabolism" sounds like a bad idea, unhealthy. Trust you body to be where it should be. "speeding up metabolism" as weight-loss tactic is completely misguided.
During and after exercise, yes, your metabolism rises but comes back to its base rate. Even a few more pounds of muscle really doesn't increase your metabolism or require anything in extra calories.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/17/2008 1:27:52 PM | have a thyroid scan done to determine if you have a hyothyroid condition. ask an endocrinologist what else could make you feel tired and worn-down.
you can boost a sluggish metabolism by ingesting iodine. it occurs naturally in sea vegetables, including dulse, hijiki, nori and kelp. you can find these in dried form at your local natural foods store.
but you do need to maintain a rigorous level of activity. walk, run, bike, swim or do whatever you can to keep moving.
if you start feeling fatigued, try to get moving.
good luck! | |

Eat food additives (spices) therby creating a thermodynamic burn...the body will need to utilize more calories to process food and this will increase the metabolism, not sure if this is true, but some people I know have said this to be true; ingest calories earlier in the day(you dont want all that unecessary fat that will come if you eat too many calories); don't skip meals; eat enough foods; excericse in the morning; don't eat carbohydrates and fat in the same meal..try cold water, if you can handle it...I like hot water myself..the body will need to raise its temperature from the cold water intake and calories will be burned by doing so. If that was true Mexicans wouldn't be fat, I use to consume tons of hot peppers but I just ended up eating more. Coconut oil does help your lose weight by increase the metabolism, but it's not a lot but it's better than nothing. Start with one teaspoon and you can take up to 4 to 5 teaspoon. Increase it slowly that's the key. Most vegetables are anti calorie meaning it takes more to digest them than the amount of calories consumed. Eating at around 70 to 80 percent water rich foods meaning vegetables and some fruit will cause weight loss, providing you don't go overboard on salad oil or mayo. Olive oil and flax oil are healthy fat that will keep you full also and keep you from over eating. Same as before start off slowly and in moderation. Eating 5 to 6 small meals will also increase your metabolism and you will lose weight quickly, I suggest 200 to 300 calories per meal then work from there. Just by eating small meals alone you will weight pretty fast but with some exercise you will lose it faster but bear in mind you will gain muscle mass. Last of all drink enough water and consume some sea salt. Try to get plenty of sun shine, moderate sun exposure is good for the body. When sunlight goes into your eyes, of course you shouldn't look directly at the sun but when some of the light goes in it will help you not wanting to eat so much. There is a guy who hardly eats all he does is drink OJ and milk etc. He does sun gazing, these doctors actually did a study on him and still baffled he doesn't eat. You don't have to fast but get some moderate sun exposure you will tend to eat less in the long run.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/19/2008 3:57:37 AM | What they meant by saying eating negative calorie food like celery or an apple is that low calorie, high fiber foods (like apples or many veggies) will actually increase your metabolic rate by the action of breaking the food down......
I actually think most of the advise on here is sound....
Eat small meals throughout th day.... make sure each meal has some protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats (almonds are a great snack)
Make sure you eat breakfast.....if you don't your metabolism will be sluggish all day....
also drink plenty of water... most people don't drink nearly enough.... and being dehydrated can keep your body from functioning prroperly.
Avoid sodas and caffiene (despite claims about caffienes metabolic effects... long turn caffiene use can cause your cortisol to go up)
and definately add some strength training and cardio. DK

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/19/2008 2:43:59 PM | | Ok foods that speed up metabolism: PROTEIN. Protein has the largest thermic effect on the body of all the macronutrients. Eating protein will make your metabolism work harder since it has to be broken down alot more than carbs or fat. Along with protein eat vegetables since they have lots of enzymes which help with the digestion of protein. Also eat more fiber such as broccoli, apples, some whole grains. Fish oil and other healthy fats such as walnuts and avocados are also good to have. In general try to eat smaller meals every 2.5-3.5 hours, eat protein and vegetables and try to avoid eating large amounts of carbs and fat together. | |

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/20/2008 11:08:22 PM | This is kind of a misleading question cause there really isn't a "food" per se that will just increase your metabolism for any sustainable period of time. One of the main factors that effects metabolism is the amount of "lean muscle" you have on your body. There is a calculation as to how much 1lb of lean muscle will burn at rest (forget it atm).
Protein is very thermic, but Eating fibreous Carbohydrates actually cause your body to burn more calories to consume those food. This doesn't really have a direct effect on your metabolism per se, but it does lower the calories your body uses in a day.
Lean muscle is probably the simplest way to increase your metabolism, so I'd say try working out a couple of times a week for a few months and see how you do. There are may great books on the subject of fitness (i try to read more then one in case there are "controvertial ideas).

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/23/2008 9:53:26 AM | Those don't increase your metabolism. They just speed up your heart rate so it burns more calories and pumps more blood. While this may "seem" like increased metabolism it's actually very hard and very bad for your heart.
Lean Muscle is the safest and best way to do it.

| FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM Posted: 4/24/2008 12:25:32 AM | I eat Like an anorexic horse !!!!!
I eat alot of good good food and some not soo good food
I have only read the OP's post and in response to that question I havnt really found a food that speeds up metabolism !!!!
I have lost just over 100 lbs in a year and I eat more now then I did when I was over weight !!! Why ?? Because I got off my lazy ass and started being active !! and the more active I got the more I lost and the more I lost ? The more I needed to eat !!
My best advice ??
Get alot more active !!!! eat healthy !! Have Breakfest Like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like an average person
Its not so much the food alone that will make you lose what you want but will be the amount of food you eat to give you the energy and such to be active to burn it all off !!!
Just from my experience !!
Im not expert
But Went from running 100Metres a day to 10kms and biking 10kms a day along with hockey 6 days a week now
as oppose to stuffing my face and watching tv all day !!! and only physical activity was to the fridge and back to the couch !!!
Today I have 2 bowls of cereal , 2 sandwichs an orange and a banana, along with 3 pieces of toast for breakfest, Lunch ? 2 hamburgers an orange and banana, Dinner ? I had a pretty damn big steak 2 cookies, some pinapple and some other goodies
Doesnt seem healthy ?? Yet gave me the energy to skate for 1 hour non stop intense, a hockey game followed by 40 mins on a bike !!!
I donno just me i guess
Good luck hope that helps
