Posted: 4/17/2008 11:54:33 AM | While up late one night and browsing profiles half asleep, I came across someone's profile who didn't have a pic up and the reason they gave was something like how due to their profession, having their pic up would affect it, and I'm assuming negatively affect it.
I didn't understand how, but then after talking to someone else about it they suggested maybe it's cause they're someone in the spotlight like a celebrity or politician and that's why they don't have their pic up. *shrugs* I don't know. But that brings me to my question.
Do you think there are any famous people lurking about on pof? I'm talking big time famous. Like t.v./movie/music/sports, personalities. It may sound crazy, but there's single people in every field, looking for someone. Also, some people enjoy just being here for the forums, and I see no reason why a famous person couldn't be here for either.
Thoughts?
And I did do a thread search and did not see this specific question asked. If I missed it, then just forget this. | |

I certainly hope the politicians are reading the politics and current events forums daily.
Have you noticed that certain topic matters here, often pop up in the regular media ?
I've suspected for a long time that someone at the Today show reads the POF forums. | |

or people might say they don't want to have a pic up due to work because they could be in the military/police/position of authority, like a CEO/whatever and feel their position could be compromised in some way if people knew more intimate details about them.... or even just be a teacher and don't want to "risk" one of their students recognizing them | |

On another website I mod on, there are a few. Only a select few know who they are, and we respect their privacy totally. That even goes down to mods not telling other mods what their internet nickname is, because we feel it's that important. | |

Posted: 4/17/2008 12:30:24 PM | why, i wouldn't be at all surprised if indeed there are more than a handful of "famous" people here in pofland. and why wouldn't there be, considering the convenience, anonymity, and other factors that draw anyone, just look at the content of writing and numerous exchanges taking place on such an easy to understand and use, format?! stranger things have happened, certainly.

I don't post my pic on here because I choose not to and when I did it still didn't get me any more dates. Watch out for BS'ers. Famous people are only people like everyone else - why wouldn't they be on here - it is a great site and it is free which makes it even better. | |

Posted: 4/17/2008 5:11:23 PM | In my end of the cosmos, people may not post a pic because they are teachers, in law enforcement, or have another publicly "sensitive" careers, or they may live in a small town, and having a pic up can be a creepy stalker-type experience where they know where you live if you don't have a filter in place (no pic) beforehand to determine if they are psycho or not before carrying on communication.
None of this deters my little no-pic self from the hope that with my scintillating forum wit I will be "discovered" by the wealthy, anonymous, gorgeous, no-pic, sensitive-yet-he-man celebrity who will whisk me away on his fabulous sailing yacht...with a private masseur and excellent chef.....to sunny islands south of here.....oooppss, I digress.....into fantasy.....lol!

I've talk to one famous woman from a band and she was very pleasent open and kind. i would also be leary of someone useing that as a ploy to mess with people. | |

I also agree these people would be the folks who don't post a picture. Like someone else said: #1) If they did post a picture of themselves, no one would believe them, #2) --dammit, I forget what I was going to say!!...and #3) If people found out who they are, they'd be getting hundreds of emails from folks wanting to get to know them simply because of their famous name. You know the kind; the ones who'll talk to you not because of who you are as a person, but because your name is in the limelight. NOT cool.
So yes, anonymity isn't such a bad thing sometimes! That's why I don't think anyone should be required to post a picture if they don't want to.

I noticed Michael J. Fox on here, but since his pic was of him when he did his Back to the Future movies, the site deleted his pics. The rules state your pics must be current. Bad bad Michael.
Somebody told me Angelina Jolie is lurking about on the site. I guess she is looking for another "Brad Pitt". | |

Posted: 4/19/2008 9:12:37 AM | I just spoke to someone that used to be on TV, has been on Larry King, etc. He didn't tell me any of this, but when I googled his name, that's when, surprise, surprise, I found out. ( he gave me an offsite email address ie. john@johnsmith.com, I googled him thinking I was going to find maybe a travel, accountanting or photography business. Well, who knew I would stumble across what I did)
Well, he was on and off this site quicker than.....well, I'm sure you can find your own way of finishing off -oops, there I go again - this sentence. | |

I found just the opposite. Years ago my face was in the New York Times Magazine section (not even the cover) and for about a month people would come up to me saying aren't you . . . . . ?
I also have a business web site. Every once in a while someone will recognized me, and my picture isn't even in a prominent place.
I'm surprised because I rarely recognize other people even if they are famous -- unless I'm talking to them. But on the other hand, I'm not interesed in famous people unless we happen to be friends. | |

Posted: 4/19/2008 11:34:53 AM | I don't know about POF, but I've run into a few celebs online in general. Think of people who make no secret of the fact that they blog or are active in chat rooms now and then.
It's not that weird.. I mean they're still regular people. They still want and like the things the rest of us do. The only major difference is everyone knows who they are and they get paid a helluva lot better for their jobs.
You're right though.. there is no reason that a famous single person wouldn't try online dating if they wanted a date. I'm sure that contrary to popular belief it's not always that easy for them to get dates either.

Posted: 4/19/2008 11:37:41 AM | They most likely work for Homeland Security or the Border Patrol (Customs). These people have to pass a very detailed background check even to get hired. Them advertising themselves on POF (or elsewhere) can effect their jobs.
If I you worked for one of these agencies, you'd know what I mean.
Do I think there are celebrities on POF? Not in a million years. They have agents and people to go out and find people for them. They do not need a dating service. LOL!

As for politicians...they are only on the dirty sites...the porn sites...sites that require payments. Not the free sites like PoF. | |
