Can YOU cook?

Good afternoon, gents!

Time for another spin-off thread... The question has been posted in Ask a Girl whether girls appreciate men who can cook (seems like quite a few do).

I know that many do not dare to set a foot in the MineFields of GirLand, so I figured this would be a good thing to ask in the GuyZone....

I would like to know: Can You Cook? Would you find it enjoyable to prepare a meal for a special lady? And, what would you prepare (a signature dish perhaps...)?

I love to muck about in the kitchen. I just hate cooking meals for just myself though. (I always expect myself to put out afterwards the ungrateful lout that I am)

Luv to. I grew up helping mom or grandma in the kitchen and since there were lots of siblings and food was skimpy, I was happy to speed things along. My fav is spaghetti with lots of onion, bell peppers, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, oregano, tom sauce. ThasswhatI'mtalkinbout.

I'm no expert but yeah, I can cook. It's much more fun when you're cooking with someone else or for someone else though.

Me too. Booooring... When I am alone at home, I count making my own trail mix as cooking.

What would you prepare in order to enchant yourself to put out?
Hey, I asked for a signature dish... so... fess it up.

Sounds yummmmmy.... a bit messy perhaps, but delicious... and if you both eat it onions will not prevent kissing.
Otherwise, onion-breath might kill the magic, no?

But.... what would you prepare???

Curious mind wants to know....

I can both barbecue and make some nice crispy bacon, pasta is also pretty easy as are vegetables.... so I think the answer is no, I can't cook. Not good enough to impress anyway.

I'd like to think I can cook. I have a few things that I've made in the past that I'm quite proud of. I know I'm never going to be on par with those professional chefs on the Food Network, but I at least like to try.

It would depend on the occasion. I just enjoy looking through a cookbook and picking something and adding my own twist to things.

Oh and yes I would and have enjoyed cooking for a special lady, and a few deadbeat roommates.

Signature dish is French Toast (don't laugh), nothing special about it or anything, I've just never come across someone else's French Toast that has matched mine.

Extent of my cooking skills is "set it and forget it". Thanks, Ron Popeil. Oh, and special thanks also go to George Foreman.

That said, would I make a special dinner for a lady in my life? Absolutely, I would. It would not be my own recipe, of course. Giving food poisoning to your loved one ruined many relationships. Learned that one the hard way. But, making a dinner from someone else's recipe for special occasion - that sounds like fun.

Being the bachelor that I am, most of my cooking ends up being "what do I have in my fridge to go out with this package of meat I pulled from the freezer yesterday?"

So far, my favorite has been my chicken stirfry. With the veggies I throw in , I usualy get three meals out of it. (I know "Bachelor" and "Veggies" aren't usually used together)

I cook nearly every day for my daughter and I. :-) I have made special dinners for dates. For one, I made some really nice rib-eye steak. I tend to cook a LOT on the grill, and by comparison, very little indoors.

My signature, would have to be steaks, in general. Though, I made a pretty mean grilled tomato toped with EVOO, garlic and Parmesan cheese. Portabello Mushroom pizzas (low carb, no bread pizza) french bread pizza (HIGH carb, opposite of the previous) and I have been told I make a great spaghetti. Those are kinds o the norms. I can toss together meals, fairly easy, with what I find lying around, too.

Oh, guess I should mention BBQ. Ribs, Beer Can Chicken, Pork Shoulders (cooked 50lb on my smoker one day), and Brisket. :-) See a theme here? Definitely good with meat. :-)

Brew, there is a recipe forum, I have posted a few there, myself.

Making a meal with your SO, BSing over cooking, etc, is really nice, IMO.

Yes, i can.

Yes, i do enjoy cooking for my s/o, particularly on weekends we don't have the kids and we can slow the pace down and enjoy dining.

When I was in university, I worked in a number of restaurants...learned everything from Italian, Cajun/Creole, ribs, etc. But my favorite to make would be Caesar Salad (home made dressing), barbecued beef tenderloin, and New York style cheesecake.

You impressed me already.

*leans closer... whispers*

Shhhhh, don't tell anyone... But, I once burned soup... almost set the house on fire...

Signature dish is French Toast (don't laugh),

I'd never laugh at anyone who's kind enough to respond to my question.
Besides... see my admission of soup burning above... I lost all rights to laugh when it comes to cooking....
What's so special about that French Toast that you make?

special thanks also go to George Foreman.

Yup. The man should be declared a saint.

there is a recipe forum, I have posted a few there, myself.

If I go there they will boo me out.

I have to eat, so I have to cook. I enjoy a good meal, so I have to be a pretty good cook. My signature meals are Sunday breakfast (fried potatoes, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits or pancakes);

Or, crock pot chili simmered all day.

When I was dating my ex, the first meal I cooked for her was baked stuffed cornish hens with mashed potatoes, steamed asparagus, and "baked" beans (beans in brown sugar/tomato sauce) made from dry (soaked overnight then simmered in the crock pot all day). Had she appreciated it, it would have been more enjoyable.

Same here, it's about the only thing that makes me feel lonely. No one to share the successes and the failures with....

I can do a reasonable job, although far from Cordon Bleu material.

The most fun is cooking together, although that's sometimes something that women do not enjoy. My ex was one of those types, so any attempt to do so was a waste of time and energy.

Hate cooking -- if you can call making kraft dinner cooking?

The whole process is about as exciting as watching paint dry...

I'm not that much of a cook. I can make a few simple things.
And like anyone, if it comes in a box or a can, well... that's pretty simple. LOL!

Well... I can cook one amazing english breakfast.
Eggs, sausages, mushrooms, potatoes and onions, toast...

I'd love to make it for you sometime Red.

I love to share cooking duties. I really enjoy food prep. The cutting, dicing, slicing often more then the meal. I can show off in the kitchen but it is really fun to work as a team. It's even more fun with a nice bottle of wine.

The time of year determines the type of cooking that I prefer do.
But yes, I can cook.

Would you find it enjoyable to prepare a meal for a special lady?

Of course!

And, what would you prepare (a signature dish perhaps...)?

A casual romantic evening might call
for linguini and clam sauce, perhaps
served with vegies of her choice, and
a nice wine.

I'm not a versatile cook, but there are a few things I do better than average -- tacos, for instance. I'd only find it enjoyable to cook for someone else if I knew she liked it going in. Otherwise, no.

How about a baked trout with a home-made "hollandaise-tartar" "vinegrette" on a bed of petit salade with a low-fat Canadian ice-wine cheesecake?
