| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/19/2008 12:26:55 PM | Alright so I used to weight about 245 and now I weigh 175-180...it goes up and down. Now I work out pretty much everyday. I lift weights mon-fri with 15-20 mins of cardio afterwards and I usually do 30-60 mins of cardio on sat and sunday....I also work on my abs every day. Now I have noticed that although I do lose weight and gain muscle my stomach has not gone away lol....it's alot smaller now than it used to be but still I would enjoy a nice flat stomach for once in my life haha... I'm pretty sure that it is extra skin and am wondering if anyone knows of any natural ways of dealing with this??? If I have to get surgery for it I will but that is a last resort thing, I'd rather do something natural if I can. Any suggestions at all would be very much appreciated thanks. | |

Loose skin? I dunno. maybe it will tighten up on its own, or not.

As a woman that had her skin stretched from pregnancy there is this little "apron" of skin, that the only way to get rid of is through a tummy tuck...
I am not vain enough to worry about that..
There is a little natural tightening, but not like a person would like sometimes... Just a fact of life...

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/19/2008 1:21:15 PM | I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems like I heard once that tummy fat is the last to go on men. I would think at your age your skin would still have the elasticity and you wouldn't be suffering from skin that needs to be surgically removed. (but what do I know?)
Maybe you're lean body mass (is that what you call it?) isn't low enough yet?

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/19/2008 1:47:46 PM | | Ever think of getting a consultation? If it's not much skin it will naturally adjust, but if it's quite a bit you'll probably need surgery. Ask the people who know best. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/19/2008 2:04:02 PM | Everyone I know who has lost a significant amount of weight has had to have surgery. It probably isn't just on your tummy, and the surgery isn't something to be taken lightly.
Congratualations on your weight loss. I know it must be discouraging to do a good job, and then have to go that extra step.

Posted: 4/19/2008 3:02:28 PM | | Ya I've been thinking of seeing a doctor about this because I really don't want to go through surgery but I would like it to go away...I workout hard and love it but I hate having this little bulge on my stomach...I guess it may just be a mental barrier I may have to over come.

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/19/2008 8:37:17 PM | Depends on what kind of roll your talking about.. Sometimes it will just take that much more work, OR checking with a body building specialist at the gym... As someone else stated if it is just a little, and it doesn't seem like your talking about losing hundreds of pounds just keep working and the skin will do some shrinking...
Keep building the muscle tone, and it will have structure to tighten up around... As I and others have stated it is when there has been a lot of weight lost, OR that of a pregnancy that stretched the crap out of the skin... LOL...
Perhaps there are some different physical movements you can do to work that part of the body in a way that helps tighten things up...
That way you save going under the knife... There are many unscruplous Dr's that will do surgery over something that doesn't need to be done...
Good luck and good job, you look great...

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/20/2008 7:32:59 AM | You are CHAMPION!!!! Great work!!! I am also not a guru on this subject, but you are very young so that will play to your advantage.
Take care and feel good about your huge accomplishment!

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/20/2008 8:35:36 AM | How sure are you that it's "extra" skin and still not a bit of fat?
Getting abs has more to do with your diet and less to do with doing 1000 crunches a day. If you're diet is good, you should look into doing core exercises.
If it's ACTUALLY loose skin that you have then surgery is the only way to get rid of it.

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/20/2008 10:57:24 AM | Well 'm sure that some of it is fat too but I know that not all of it is...I eat fairly healthy. I drink pretty much just water and I eat alot of fruits and vegetables...haven't eaten fast food in years either. I don't do 1000 crunches lol but I do alot of core exercises. I'm still going to set up an appointment with a doctor though to get a professionals opinion...maybe even a personal trainer or something. Anyways thanks for all the advice. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/21/2008 10:22:19 AM | | Congrats first of all!! Secondly, it's not a super huge amount of weight to lose, it depends on where you carried it.. if it was all in your belly, then I would think you're going in for surgery. If you're down to the super wrinkly folds of skin where all your stretch marks were.. you'll have to get it cut off. There simply is no other way. Your skin can recover somewhat, but not entirely(even though you are young) Best advice on here was to go see a dermatologist, then go see a plastic surgeon. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/21/2008 11:21:51 AM | Hmmm so many different opinions lol...i'm going to see a doctor for sure. I can only hope that I don't have to go through surgery. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/21/2008 9:19:11 PM | | The OP is only 22. Shouldn't his skin still be fairly elastic at that age? Your skin will probably eventually tighten back up if you continue working out. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/22/2008 3:56:14 AM | 70 lbs... that is great
I'd get a consult from a doc... find out how much is loose skin and how much may be deeper belly fat...
Couple things that are good for your skin..... make sure you drink plenty of water...... hydration can help keep skin healthy, as does a good multivitamin and fish oil..... there are a couple other vitamins that are good for skin (which escape me at the monent) I think vitamin E ... just do a google search....
Question... did you lose weight quickly or did it take a while... ? that seems to be a big factor in whether or not yyou develop loose skin

Despite what that article says, I think that drinking lots of water is good for one's skin. When I drink a lot of water, it does seem like my skin is healthier, although I suppose it may just be an illusion. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that drinking lots of water helped to repair the skin and flush toxins.

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 4/22/2008 11:35:49 AM | | Unless one is very young, extra skin can only be completely removed with surgery. Over time it does get better but it wont be anything like surgery. | |

| How do I get rid of extra skin? Posted: 7/2/2008 1:32:34 PM | I have lost a lot of weight myself. I still have a lot more to go. At one time my weight was over 300 and now I'm down to 230 one thing I have found that helps get the exta skin to shrink is coco butter cream it helps put moisture back in your skin wich helps its elastiaty, and congradulations on the waight loss. Keep up the good work.
