yes--100% of the time so far. Guys show up 5 inches shorter than they post, 5 years older than they post ect. I am sure women do the same thing. Just wish we could all be honest. Maybe it should be a new rule that we all post pictures that we take when we get out of bed and look all crappy!

Not quite, but I met a guy who was fun, witty, and creative online but in person was about as dull as paint drying. I got the impression he spent most of his life online thinking up witty things to say and starting arguments in online forums but didn't have much of a life outside of that. It is partly for this reason that I like to try to meet someone within two weeks of initial contact. I don't have lots of time to spend on this and I'm not looking for pen pals. I'd like to find out within a reasonable period of time if I want to continue a conversation with this person.

after the third date I had from here, I promptly came home and changed my profile to not single/not looking and it stayed that way for quite some time lol.

even now there is not many that sparks my interest, and yes I am vain in that sense. If I am not attracted to your looks, or do not find you visually attractive to my eye it certainly will not move forward.

It has happened to me one time, and I was shocked to say the least. I just met someone Friday who told me she has it happen all the time. It took me 2 weeks to convince her that my pics are real and that I would never deceive someone like that. People who post fake pics or ones from 20 years ago make it harder for the honest ones, and ultimately only make it harder for themselves.

yes, had the same thing happen.. someone I didn't recognize show up to meet.

that.. and people who have aged quite a bit since the photo on the sight was taken.

well.. it might work to meet people but it sure is one way of scaring people off!

Luckily I have not had this happen to me (knock on wood), however I can surely tell you if a man ever pulled this stunt with me, you can be rest-assured I would leave just as soon as he introduced himself to me. The only way I'd continue our little meeting is if he had a damn good excuse as to why he posted fake pictures and/or was deceptive. Otherwise, I'd be gone faster than a 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans. lol.

Just about every woman i have met off the internet has looked at least close to their pictures. Some a little better, some worse. Same with the weight issue. But i was always able to identify them upon sight.

LOL! This has happened to me more times than not! Only 2 looked like their pics...one actually looked even better than his pics!!! I've actually been told I look better than my pics, which is cool. I would never pretend to be someone other than "me" because that is just wrong & a waste of both people's time! With that said...those of you who are hiding the "real" you should stop now. It only hurts you in the long run. Most people respect honesty...even if that means exposing your flaws!

Yep.

Met a guy ages ago who was fit looking, smiling, and handsome in his pics. I met him and he was fifty or so pounds heavier, unshaven, and hardly smiled. It turned out that his pics were from back when he was in his later years of college, and since then he'd stopped caring..

Lani,

This is the pitfall of meeting people here. The thing is you give them the benefit of the doubt before you meet and this is where you begin building that first bit of trust.

When you meet, it's your chance to see if this person has been honest with you. Do they really look like their pics?

Where ever you meet, do they act like you think they would? Respectful, Gentlemanly.

That's not even taking into consideration as to wether there will be any chemistry.

It's a gamble to be sure. Just remember that it's the first TRUST test. If they aren't honest from the very beginning, you shouldn't waste your time.

Know that there is a guy out there, that will love and cherish you, from the moment they meet you till their last days. He is out there and you will find them, just as long as you get past guys like the one you just met.

Good Luck to you!!!

"LANI" ... I have met many men here on POF ... mostly through the POF parties in the areas I have lived. Without exception ... all have fudged on their height and weight, some on their age as well ... many on their photos.

Since I was not looking for a date with these men ... I was less concerned about that. I did take the liberty to let them know that I felt it was wrong to lie about such things on their profiles. My theory there is ... that if they lie about such obvious things, how should we trust them that they are not lying about other things that are not so obvious?

Most of them just laugh about it ... they actually think it's funny and just point out that the women are also doing it, so it doesn't matter. Obviously, to some of us ... IT DOES MATTER. As soon as I see a man has lied about that stuff ... it's over for me.

I'm a patient person ... I can wait to meet someone who won't lie to me. I believe there are a lot of others in the same situation. We (both men and women) feel we can wait for someone who will have enough self-respect not to lie about themself ... who will be secure enough about themself not to misrepresent themself on their profile.

It's all so stupid ... surely they must realize that in the end, we will discover that they have lied and for the most part ... will not really want to have anything further to do with them. I've met some that I can remain friends with, but would never consider starting a relationship with ... because they just can't be honest about themself.

Since I'm truthful about myself ... I was thinking that it's not asking too much to expect the same from a perspective partner ... right?

Funny, but the very first guy I met, granted not from POF, actually is better-looking than his pics. And much younger looking! He has an athletic built which he never advertised. He is someone I could really fall for. The connection is just too strong. Sometimes, people are not photogenic so they look older and sometimes not as good as in person. And it is great when that happens and then you develop or already have the tingle.

And we mainly depended on our chats, e-mails and phone conversations. We are just too busy people and we met after 3 months. We have been dating and who knows...

The one I met at POF was his very picture, nothing else. But against my better judgment, met him too soon even when I did not want to. Was just trying not to hurt him. But I have not had an experience like you had. Yes, knock on wood!

I don't believe in meeting right away. I am a very good judge of character so I pretty much screen those I want to meet. It's always better to have an upgraded persona, than a downgraded one. Emotions and time are on the line, so better be very careful.
Judging from the unstable characteristics of some guys, I prefer to wait a while. What's the rush?

Happend to me a lot in the past, thats why I dont judge anyone by their pictures and dont get all excited over a very hot picture anymore.

Talking for a long time before meeting someone can leave you frustrated because its normal to make yourself a picture of this person from the little info you have. So its best to meet quickly if he sounds like someone you would like to meet and then go from there.

Good luck!

Haven't had it happen to me yet, but that is a reason why I try to keep my pics recent. That way what they see is what they get and aren't too shocked should we ever meet.

YES, a couple of times. Recently I met someone from another site who was so perfect (for me) in his profile, but so completely different in person. It was so depressing and disappointing :(

I had to ask him several times to meet me... now I try to meet anyone I'm interested in as soon as possible.

Basically he was much heavier than his photos (though I could have accepted that)- but it turned out that all he wanted to do was complain about everything in his life.

He hadn't shaved and it looked like he hadn't showered or washed his clothes either. He didn't make eye contact and didn't smile once. I labored to make conversation for 45 minutes and then I was done. Sigh.

Absolutely; I have some girls sending me photos of them in their prom dresses; and they are 30 years old! Many say that they look the same but I like at least within a year. My photos are 4 months old, and being older I'm not exactly a poser, but yes it happens all the time.
