| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 4/24/2008 10:28:03 AM | | What part of New York? Are you referring to New York City? New York is a large and very diverse state. Many people don't realize that. | |

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 5/5/2008 8:52:20 AM | | Come on - if you have money - money - money. The powers that be have made it very difficult to live in this city if you are not super rich. I am an artist - and most people whose motivation is not money - have to live in the outer burroghs (sp?) It's a great place - crowded - diverse - exciting (not as exciting as it used to be) Beautiful architecture - the dating scene is pretty fast paced and emotionless = in my opinion. But there are plenty of people here who find love - and plenty who don't. | |

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 5/7/2008 10:17:13 AM | It depends where in NY you decide to reside in. New York City is very expensive if you want to live in a nice area. Heck, even the ghetto may be expensive! lol
Other than the expense of residing here, they only other things that I would say is a pain is the "rush-rush" attitude most have here, traffic and the subway system. It's like a heart attack waiting to happen with most. lol
However, the pros are far more then the cons. The city has a lot of wonderful places and things do . i.e. arts, culture, night life, restaurants, lounges, fashion/shopping, etc.............The job market is very good and the pay is up to par if you have connections/college-degree (for most).
Not all NYorkers are rude. There are some of us who are quite approachable and friendly.
Good luck! | |

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 5/8/2008 12:55:14 PM | I've lived all over the world literally and can honestly say I have returned to this very BLUE democratic state OVER AND OVER for more pain and torture due to the high cost of living BUT the people here---no matter where, way up north towards Niagra Falls to way south by the Jersey Line are really the reason I stay. HOWEVER, I would not ever in a million years live or reside near WESTCHESTER. I worked there for a year and never in my life did I meet more nasty, rude, insecure 'wannab wealthites' in my life. Pahhhhalllease! Try getting any of them to smile is like getting a 3 yr old to eat vegetables. I live in Los Angeles 9 years and Bergen County, NJ for 27 and I can say that California lacks deep, connected, INTERESTING people. Nice, yes. Interesting, HELLS NO! Bergen County at one time was very rural and now it is a shopping nightmare including its NY area's like Rockland. Orange, Sullivan Counties are the backwoods King of Queens. NYC is a melting pot and it isn't a town you ask "how are the people" (or zip code) ITS THE BLOCK!
Hope this helps. | |

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 5/10/2008 6:48:54 PM | "Thinking about moving to New York , what are the pros and cons of living there and are the people friendly ?"
Care to be a bit more specific? NY state, or NYC? If NY state, what area? Hudson Valley region? Capital District? Syracuse area? Rochester? Buffalo? Southern Tier?
All have their pros and cons. I'm in the Capital District (Albany area) and I love it. I'm within an easy day drive to just about anywhere I could possibly want to be, and the people around here are great.

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 6/4/2008 4:05:37 PM | like folks said, it depends upon what part of NY. I recently moved back to Long Island after being away for 16 years or so, the most recent 8 in Baltimore (which I miss tremendously). I am still getting re-acclimated and it ain't easy.

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 6/18/2008 3:49:17 PM | In terms of technicalities--affordability, access, et cetera, the others are right--you need to tell us where you're thinking of moving.
As for are people friendly? The stereotype that New Yorker's (more specifically, NYC'ers) are rude stems from the fact that this is a fast paced city. People in a hurry come off as "rude." Still, the same can be said about DC'ers (don't even think about standing on the wrong side of the escalator!) or other urbanites.
In terms of politeness, especially with strangers, I've found that New York is wonderful. I broke my foot recently, and I've come across many people willing to be helpful--even if it's just to hold the service door open in the subway.

| Thinking About Moving To New York........ Posted: 8/6/2008 4:49:58 PM | Don't move here. I have lived in New York and visited most of it and I can tell you one thing to sum it up, the state Sucks!!! Since living here in the Mid 1980s, the area is just downright aweful. I am a single male in his late 30s, and I can tell you it sucks. I can't wait to leave the state. Many reasons that I will list:
1- The standard of living in this state is just pale- unless of course your a doctor, politician, lawyer, or have high education you will do fine, otherwise like me, it sucks.
2-Without a good paying job, your situation in finding someone decent, forget about it.
3-The people in majority are A-holes, rude, inconsiderate, and selfish.
4-High taxes, not enough good paying jobs to go around. Like I said you half to be very highly educated with an MBA to have any chance to get a good paying job and with the economy getting worse, I can imagine New York will only get worse.
5- New York City I was considering, but forget it, if your like me, you don't have a chance in hell of surving down there.
Thats the majority of reasons why I won't consider marrying anybody from NY. I dated for a lot of years, and why is it that a average joe like me who tries to work his butt off can't find someone decent to go out with. The reasons I listed above. If you got lots of education, money, connections, and looks and are under 35, you should do real well here in NY, but otherwise if your like me, just come to visit here and just goto NYC to visit, but heed upstate, as there aint much to do up here once you seen it. Thats all I can tell you coming from a resident who has lived here for twenty plus years. Once I get situated quite frankly I may move to Canada or another country or go toward west or mid west as I have been out that way and find the people to be more down to earth and the quality of life and standard of living much easier to adapt to. NY is just more for the rich and affluent like California. I believe there will be a day and I see it coming in our lifetimes where no matter where you go everything will be out of reach for the common man and woman, and the American dream will only be for the rich and famous. If still considering in coming here and looking for a decent diversity of people to hang with NYC is your place to go. Good luck.
