| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/23/2008 6:22:34 PM | Here's an interesting documentary I came across. It's about 40 min long, so grab some popcorn...

Why do you think these men chose to have a relationship with a doll instead of a real person? Are they smart or just crazy?
Discuss. | |

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/23/2008 6:45:31 PM | LOL... It reminds me someone that I met a very long time ago who always called his partner "doll". I asked him why he used that particular term of endearment. I smiled and said, "It's because she is an empty-headed plaything".
Fortunately, for the most part, those days are over and women viewed less in through that lens. That man's generation is almost gone.
Best.

Why do you think these men chose to have a relationship with a doll instead of a real person? I'm guessing it's because they can't handle a real person. At least a doll won't have flaws, opinions, etc.

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/23/2008 7:31:33 PM | | I've watched that documentary before and it's incredibly sad and unfortunately. I think some people find it hard to interact with the opposite sex. Women who are that socially awkward exist as well, but they don't typically buy blow up dolls. Maybe it's a guy thing. | |

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/23/2008 8:05:49 PM | Man-enomics.
And that is Man-Truth.
Mantastic!
(Though, this is more of a Maury/Springer question, and less Dr.Phil-hack, or Oprah)
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/23/2008 8:16:07 PM | | There is an entire culture, (men, women and couples) built around RealDolls. At over $6000, this is difinitive proof that some people have too much money. | |
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 4/24/2008 10:30:15 AM | I mean, some of these people are social outcasts, but do they have a point? Is it better to be in love with an inanimate object? Does it protect you from being hurt?
And, $6000 is pocket change compared to the cost of dating ;)
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 4:11:20 PM | | $6000 dollars should not be the cost of dating! it varies depends on who you date. for a gold digger yes! for a person who cares about you for who you are priceless. Maybe for these people because they want something thats always perfect. IN that case they will never find. | |
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 4:15:47 PM | They are plain crazy !................ what else could it be? a man who has sex with a doll and thinks its his girlfriend? ......... they are beyond crazy, they are delusional. | |
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 4:26:33 PM | Hmmmmm, A doll people will pay 6K for, you can have your way with anytime you like, wash it down with a hose, and stick it in a closet never to be herd from till the next time.
why didn't I think of that

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 5:29:23 PM | Are they smart??? *pukes*
I feel sorry for each of them and yet, ugh...
The doll doctor, poking around the vagina, yuck...not wearing gloves??? Doesn't he realize what goes in those fake vaginas???
Bunch of freaks, IMHO. I hate to say it, but if I ever met someone that strange I'd probably want to physically hurt them, for no reason than just pure confusion, ignorance and frustration.
Why not seek a hooker? She'd be cheaper and more realistic...
I think the whole thing is pretty disgusting...
I feel stoned...that documentry f*cked me up...
Those guys are way into it. Telling the dolls they love them, kissing, ack...WTH???
Probably best I stop watching, cause the more I hear these guys open their mouths, the more I want to wire them shut.
That was too weird. I think I'm going to need counselling after watching that.
I think having sex with a full figured doll whose eyes were starring at you, would be like having sex with a corpse.
Too weird for me, I'll stick to my hand and good, wholesome, clean, Internet porn.

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 5:39:37 PM | ^ hahah I'm starting to *heart* this guy
I saw the program on real dolls a few years back , what goes in to (no pun intended!) making them , how they can cater to whatever the guy wants, like eye colour , hair colour , body type etc etc what I couldn't get over was the look on the dolls faces ... I know I know , they're not really but they looked so .... well ... pained. mouths always agape (for function, I get it) , glassy eyes.... .it's like a plastic crackwh*re!!!
okay so I watched, dunno *WHY* but wow ,scary stuff, that first guy is really delusional!

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 6:21:10 PM | Im not going to watch the video..but will leave this piece of advice...If the relationship"blows up " you only have yourself to blame | |
|
| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 6:27:34 PM | I'm pretty sure I dated a ManDoll for about four years... He wasn't there for me emotionally, physically, mentally.... Yup. Pretty sure I got my hands on one of 'em through Match....
Had I known all it would take was one little poke with a needle to set myself free!!!
Hell, years of kickin' that damn ManDoll to the curb.... and taking it back when it whined....
One little needle....
AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/27/2008 6:59:47 PM | They don't yell, they don't tell, and they're grateful as hell.
I don't condone this sort of thing but I do understand it.
I think people 100 years ago understood more about relationships than we do today. We are becoming more and more isolated from each other, in our high tech world. There are more interesting diversions than real people available to us today. Entertainment is so easily available to us today, real people can be disappointing.
Bringing another person into your life can be very intimidating. People have needs and demands and don't always empathise with our own needs and demands. It can take a lot more patience and tolerance than what a lot of people can handle. The ability to have a relationship with another real person is becoming a lost art.
We sit in front of our TVs, play our video games, and only contact other human beings through the Internet. So much of our lives are imaginary, why not have an imaginary plastic friend and lover ?

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/28/2008 3:24:26 AM | | I cannot venture an opinion as to the nature of the men who spend that kind of money on these things. As for me, just being alone in the house with one of these things would weird me out far beyond the tolerable limits of my inbuilt creepometer. They are enough to give me nightmares, sort of like,,,,,,,,,artificial corpses. | |

| Real Dolls - Documentary and thoughts Posted: 5/28/2008 3:37:37 AM | "Google "Futurama" + "Don't date robots."
Now that is another topic altogether. After witnessing what is going on in the field of robotics, I am thoroughly convinced that within the lifetimes of my grandchildren, there are going to be robots walking the streets with us who will be visually indistinguishable from humans. Once these robots are made with sexual/romantic purposes in mind, they are eventually going to have abilities and talents far beyond any human's capabilities. For better or worse, this is going to open up one hell of a can of worms on the social front. Imagine a gorgeous robot who is so well programmed that he/she is always attentive to your ever need, solicitous and conversationally gifted, able to crack jokes, laugh, cry and give you physical and mental love on a level you had never dreamed of. If you think this is a pipe dream, just wait and see.
