| Heath Ledger and the Hollywood drug culture Posted: 4/25/2008 2:09:58 PM | How many people die of accidental drug overdoses? I don't believe that this is a very common thing with anyone that's not a junkie. It's not common for a 28 yr., old man to be taking 6 different types of prescription drugs. I remember Ledger showing up at an awards show looking like a junkie. Why didn't anyone help him? Instead people just pretended that there was no problem, or just spread gossip. Perhaps, Hollywood has to start dealing with its inner demons publicly, instead of hiding them. It is more than obvious that a huge problem exist. It seems that people in the entertainment industry are at a very high risk for this type of problem. A lot of them have died from drug or alcohol related deaths. Maybe it's time for Hollywood to enact and enforce a very strict drug policy. Perhaps, it could save lives and prolong careers. The politics of Washington need to change and so do the politics of Hollywood.
Hollywood is a very strange place; it can create great wealth or destroy lives. People there know very well that Hollywood is probably the only place in the world where they can accumulate great riches. Outside of Hollywood most of those people would not be able to generate the same kind of money, not even a fraction of what they make now. So, in turn they are willing to risk and sacrifice everything for the promise of great riches. I think that Hollywood is all about looks and popularity, very solemnly focusing on great talent. Even though Ledger was a good actor and most likely not an ignorant rube, he fell prey to the dangers of Hollywood. It is very obvious that some of the people in Hollywood aren't mental giants. Some of those people don't even know how to dress; they can't even manage to get it right with the help of a professional stylist. Some of them never even graduated from high school. But, as soon as their careers take off, they start acting like their Harvard or Oxford grads. Perhaps, it's time to stop pretending and deal with the real world.

| Heath Ledger and the Hollywood drug culture Posted: 4/25/2008 4:13:48 PM | At the risk of sounding like a heartless **stard, I have to say that I could care less about Heath Ledger. The media kills me. Tradgedy? This isn't a tradgedy, it's a fine example of a grown adult acting like an idiot and paying the price for it.
These Hollywood types have all the money and perks in the world and a lot of them are too stupid to deserve it. They can afford to do anything and go anywhere they would lke, but they choose to sit in some empty apartment and load up on designer drugs, and I am supposed to feel sorry for them WHY?

I agree 100%. Your not heartless, your realistic. These celebs couldn't care a lick about anyone but themselves, so why should I care?
Although when I heard that a celebrity had died of an overdose, I was a tad dissapointed that it was Britney Spears instead. Meh... in due time.

I feel there missing GOD myself.

It's interesting to me that the media (and the public) choose cases like this to latch on to when there are so many better ones out there. A millionaire od's on drugs and we are supposed to feel bad? Give me a break!

| Heath Ledger and the Hollywood drug culture Posted: 4/26/2008 8:12:59 AM | Hollywood and the Music Industry are strange entities. There really is no sort of governing body, like in sports. There is no one to say "ok if you don't stop, you can't play. Often times train wrecks do nothing but help careers, bringing more exposure and publicity. Look at Britney, Amy Winehouse, Scott Weiland, etc. The trouble sells movies and albums. The Industry doesn't really care about the person, everyone is a product.
If they happen to flame out and overdose and die, all it means is that there will be MORE album sales, and then the industry can just go and find someone else to make famous.
It's unfortunate but it's part of the price of fame. Some people are equipped to deal with it, others, not so much.

| Heath Ledger and the Hollywood drug culture Posted: 4/26/2008 3:05:06 PM | | I checked your profile to see where you lived Chicago I'm from the area myself..They shoot motion pictures there I suggest the next time they do and you have some free time go observe and watch what a working actor does..There is a hell of alot of stress involved to acting and in the beginning most actors don't make shit..I had 2 parts as an extra once in the same movie the pay was 5 .00 dollars an hour for 60 hours of work and I had to provide some of the clothing..Just the thought stressed me out and I didn't do it..I did show up and watch the star of the movie Andy Garcia work, I watched him do the same scene over and over for about 9 hours or so until it was good enough for the director, I couldn't handle that...I had a friend that worked as an extra in the film and he ended up with work as a chacater actor...Heath was a good actor with a young mind he should have researched the medication he was on..When I hear the term "Junkie" I see someone strung out on heroin with needle marks all over their body..Many people have mulitaple prescriptions I have I don't know maybe 15, I don't use them all because they screw up your liver, stomach, they can kill you if mixed wrong I think it's a common thing alot of my friends think I'm nuts because I'm afraid to do aniexty meds then use my asthma inhaler that's just the way I am...Many people misjudge me for a drug addict because I have long hair I do like the medical marijuana I get but it's costs me about a hundred dollars for a nickle bag a month...I didn't think of Heath as a drug addict I don't think there was a cover up I think he died of mixed medications...There are so many meds out there and so many warnings on T.V. Commercials, my favorite being if your winkie is hard for longer than 4 hours you better get to a hospital! Quick! That scares me what are they going to do??? Cut it off? Not my winkie..I don't need the meds that bad, or sex for that matter if I got to take something that's going to make me look like a damn tripod..I was researching the movie "Almost Famous" The other day because I saw it for the uptenth time and finally got around to researching some of the chacaters protrayed in the movie I wondered about the critic "Lester Bangs" The guy who gave Cameron Crow his break or one of the guys I wondered if he was still around, no. He mixed valium and darvon to fight a cold in 1982 and died...Everybody has to watch what they mix. When I was a kid many hundreds of years ago I took corciden for a cold went to work doing construction drank a 6-pack of beer at lunch time went back to work 2 stories up on scaffling with a small version of a air hammer passed out and went head first into a hole filled with mud, I never thought that would happen dumb ass kid..There's drugs in HollyWood like everywhere else and most actors and rock stars are so much like the rest of us it's almost strange although the media casts them in a different light and focuses on their every move usually in a negative manner.. | |
