To make a long story short, recently I was out with a group of friends in Las Vegas.
We were looking for something to do and someone in the group suggested one of the
strip joints. Oddly enough it was a woman. I declined indicating that it wasnt something I would be comfortable with. The woman who suggested it kept pressing the issue, and finally I told her that exotic dancing was prostitutuion, was at best morally questionable, and I didnt care to support prostitution or put money in the pockets of pimps. She got really angry, and her and a couple of others went, and I found something better to do. Over the course of the next 2 days the subject kept coming up,
and the woman in question seemed to be really bent our of shape.
The question is, was I wrong? Im not a prude, and I dont really care what others do with their lives, but I was raised to think that we are all responsible for our actions,
and prostitution is at best socially irresponsible, the same applies to pornography.
The dictionary reads that anyone who engages in sexual activity for money is
a prostitute, and anyone who profits from it is a pimp. Seems to be pretty clear to me. | |

I had a friend who danced made good money raised her kid alone , went to school paid for her own car without having to cry for help from anyone she did very well we were room mates and I was very proud of the woman she was and the woman she became when we got older .
WHy in the heck would you take off to Las Vegas which is more known for being the wild side of the states anyway | |

Posted: 4/26/2008 10:48:30 AM | While I respect your opinion on porn and the exploitation of women/sex, etc.....I believe that one has the option to choose whatever "career" one wants to. Dancing is not prostitution, as most are just dancing. I'm sure some may take it to another level, but there are some classy places where it is exclusively dancing/entertainment.
For some it is a form of art, others entertainment and those who dance a living. You may have been "wrong" in how you reacted to her suggestion.
I'm not one to judge someone for their choice of employment/entertainment, as we ALL have our views/likes and we aren't GOD to judge.

I dont know how you arrive at that conclusion.
Dancing a sexually provacative dance in a g-string in front of men to give them an erection seems to me to be about as sexual an act you can perform short of intercourse. Im not coming down on the women involved, they are to a large degree
victims of a society which is morally regressing.
If dancing is such a laudable option, who would want their child, or mother to be used in such a way? Not many.

Judging how others act is the basis of civilization and all moral and ethical
law and institutions. You can use that mindset to rationalize and justify ANYTHING.
We should be teaching our children to aim for the highest they can attain in life
not the lowest. To accomplish something in life, to try and make this world a better place for having been here. Just because you can do something, and you want to, doesnt mean that
you should.

Yes I take offense to your judgment considering my room mate and close friend not only earned her money through college by dancing but to me is the most beautiful soul and free spirited and kind person I have ever been close to I wouldn't change her for the world and I thank the stars I met her and have been friends with her for over decade or more .

Realistically, they are not far from it.
There are lots of strippers who have pimps just like hookers. Strippers generally can make more money than a common hooker can. Don't get the idea that strippers don't sell their sexual favors when they want to.
One stripper I know, told me she won't go out with any guy unless he's willing to spend at least $600 on her. That doesn't include any sex. More than one man I've known, have broken their bank accounts keeping company with strippers.
I wouldn't have gone to the stripbar either, but not for the same reason.
After a while a guy comes to realize that it's all just a big hustle. I'm not going to condemn any man who really wants to go there but I also have better things to do with my time and money. Nothing is sillier than a bunch of grown men sitting in a row gawking like they've never seen a live breast before. That might be true when you're 20 but after the age of 30 it's kinda dumb.
I also don't goto prostitutes either but not for any moralistic reasons.
I may be desperate but not so desperate to pay cash for someone to have sex with me.
If more men would think about it, they'd realize that they are the ones being degraded much more than the women. | |

What is so bad about the idea of prostitution anyway? Unless you believe that sex should only be between a husband and wife. Everyone wants sex at some point in thier life and everyone needs money. If you can satisfy both with one act I say good job. There is a reason it is called the worlds oldest profession. If this country wasnt so tight-assed it would squeak if it could walk we would all be a little better off. Maybe we would be a happier society if we were not so concerned with every detail of everyones private life. | |

Just because your mental box is to small to accommodate other peoples opinions doesn't mean they have no moral center. It means your is so small, arrogant and self centric that they wouldn't want to have it.
It is a big world boyo and while there are bad things out there there is also people who just live it different and they are quite content.

Posted: 4/26/2008 12:11:26 PM | I'm fairly certain that prostitution is the exchange of goods of value for sexual favours....Stripping is a sexual favour, and as such counts as prostitution...By the same token, i don't think it matters seeing as strip joints exist pretty much everywhere, same as prostitution is "illegal" pretty much everywhere.
The world goes round, whether it has a moral centre or not. If you don't like it, stay away from it. Kudos for sticking to your values OP, I don't share them, but I can respect the fact that you have them. | |
