| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 9:40:57 AM | I noticed on the little tips that women find sci-fi to be an unattractive topic. Which was also mentioned when someone reviewed my profile.
So I guess my question is, why? I would think that anyone who was an interest in this would be someone who is intelligent, and imaginative. Are those not attractive characteristics?

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 9:49:56 AM | I like science fiction movies, but I'm not obsessed with the topic. And I'm not a reader of sci fi books nor do i watch much of it on tv either. If a guy has it as an interest it's fine as long as he's not obsessed to the point of dressing up to go to conventions or movie premieres....
although i do dress up when i engage in my hobby...hmm...maybe that is hypocritical for me to say

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 9:55:11 AM | | I love sci fi. Anything on movies or t.v. that is sci fi i will watch. My username is taken from a character on a popular sci fi show. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 10:22:42 AM | OP one should not believe everything one reads online... I have talked to plenty of women/ladies/girls (searching for that pc word there) who are into sci-fi... So maybe you just need to do a little better research if that is what you are into to find the ladies/girls/women (being fair changing the order there) who are into the same things you are...
Good Luck | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 10:24:21 AM | Question for you: do you like biographies, books or TV shows? No? find it an unattractive topic, as in your eyes roll when anyone would talk about it?
Gee, my question is why? I would think that anyone who has an interest in biographies... see where I'm going with this?
Some will like sci-fi, some (like me) won't. This doesn't make it a deal breaker but if a guy who is an avid fan of sci-fi, then I'll reconsider as I'm definitely not the woman for him. But to someone who loves it, you're it man! You're the man! Keep it in your profile as a mention, maybe not make it the entire profile but then again, it totally depends on the type of woman you're trying to attract.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 10:32:19 AM | I like Sci-Fi, then again I like MMA [new founded interest] and football and will watch a game on my own; so I guess I'm not the typical woman.
If a guy goes to the conventions and dresses up and can speak Klingon or even Ferengi (sp??) [I dated a few guys like this when I was younger, live and learn] it was funny, to be 'seduced' in Klingon, but it wasn't everything. If a guy is well balanced and likes to watch some Sci-Fi, I will watch with him, nbd; it's fun. It gets the imagination going; an an imaginationis a VERY good thing.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 10:42:54 AM | | Oh contrare my dear. I am a Star Wars junkie. (Old school, of course) And X-Files? Own the collection. Stargate? I take credit for introducing my ex to that. Ray Bradbury? One of my favorites. Star Trek? I prefer Next Generation... to each his own. I also have an extensive collection of fantasy books. Working on Robert Jordan now. Also love Eddings and Brooks. And finally, I will admit to lusting over R.A. Salvatore's character Drizzt, a Drow Elf gone good. There are lots of us out here. We're just hiding in books. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 10:51:03 AM | OP,
It's simply not true. While some women don't give a "frell" about sci-fi and simply can't "grok" it, there are plenty of women who "assimilate" sci-fi into their lives... and frankly, "resistance is futile".
If you enjoy sci-fi, leave it as an interest, certainly. There are plenty of ladies who will share your interest. If you live for sci-fi, hopefully you can follow the "Glory Road" and find "Time Enough for Love" with the right woman!
Infinite Variety! Cheers!

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 11:06:02 AM | I like mostly horror and macabre, but will get into some sci-fi depending on the topic...I like to read and watch movies of that genre, but have watched series. The X-Files was one of my favs. But that's just one thing I like to do in my spare time. It doesn't define me. Same with most of my other activities and interests.
I like men who are into it for entertainment, but when I hear it from some men, I just get the whole sci-fi convention/souvenir vibe. Sort of like trekkies. I think I'd have to know in what context it was being said in and who's saying it.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 11:09:33 AM | That's so not true.
Tons of women LOVE sci-fi. I've been to fantasy/sci-fi conventions and probably 40% of the people at them are women.
If you are hoping to get a girly, Paris Hilton type you'll run into lots of women who think it's dorky and unattractive, but trust me, look in the right place and you'll find droves of female sci-fi fans who would love to hook up with a fellow geek.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 11:14:05 AM | | SOME women don't like it. Some of us are geeks at heart and love Sci Fi, Fantasy and Trek. I couldn't imagine dating someone who didn't know who David Eddings, Weis & Hickman were, let alone get serious about him. | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 11:44:25 AM | My only gripe against sci-fi is that it's an area of interest that can function as blinders. I've known a lot of sci-fi fans who have been so entrenched in science fiction that it's difficult to broach any unrelated topic of conversation with them. Since I'm not into sci-fi/fantasy/cyber-punk/speculative fiction or any of those semi-related genres, an enthusiasm for that stuff isn't high on my list of charming qualities.
As long as a guy has other interests though, I'm probably willing to meet him halfway on the sci-fi thing.

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 12:36:33 PM | | Are you joking? I love sci-fi! Books, movies, tv - I want to find a guy that I can discuss silly stuff like Capt. Kirk vs. Chewbacca with! That's important stuff! Cheers! | |

| So why do women find sci-fi unattractive Posted: 4/27/2008 3:10:58 PM | Sci-fi is very broad so it would depend what kind of sci-fi.
If we are talking Supernatural(Jensen Ackles ) I am so there..............
If we are talking Alien Vs Predator, I am so not there.
Cheers,
