| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 8:15:21 PM | I'll start with the La Brea Tar Pits.
It's smelly plus trying to ask a girl there will get you some really strange looks trust me. I've tried it three times now and had bad experiences each time. They kind of look like this after the date :

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 8:19:41 PM | | OP, I've never been to the La Brea Tar Pits, but have kind of wanted to go, just never got around to it. Why do you think it was a bad place to bring a date? | |

So take them to LACMA instead.

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 8:24:50 PM | | ^^^Oh Duh! sorry I missed the crucial word SMELLY, I guess that's why it would not be a good place for a date. That's too bad, because I think it would be cool and certainly different. | |

I have been to the tar pits with someone from this site. Care to guess who she is?

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 8:46:36 PM | The movies.
I feel that's a good second date, not a first. It doesn't give you the opportunity to get comfortable around each other. It just begs for awkwardness. It also might come across as too cliche or an attempt at a make out session. If you do go to the movies on a first date then make it a comedy flick! Laughing is key for date one.
This answer wasn't CA specific, I realize this makes me a douche, and so I apologize
Wait! Ive got it! Don't goto the California State Fair. Either of you might get sick from the rides and throw up on yourselves, or worse, on the other person!...

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 8:50:01 PM | The Garlic Festival. Other than that, can't really think of many with the right person. Oh wait! Possibly not the "Bodies" exhibit running in LaJolla (UTC) either.

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 9:01:15 PM | | I don't really think they smell all that bad and the Museums at that complex are free after 5 PM and open 'til 8 PM on some nights of the week. | |

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 9:11:25 PM | I love the tar pits too. The whole area is interesting actually.
Maybe if you asked nerdy girls out they would have appreciated your efforts.
|
| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 9:17:15 PM | | I don't think I'm a nerdy girl, maybe more of a tomboy girl, but I kind of think the tarpits sound cool (even with the smell) , I love the county fairs, always have, think the garlic festival would be great fun, and totally want to go see the Bodies exhibit. I also think a great date is browsing the aisles of that magical fairyland "Home Depot" | |

The Garlic Festival
Of course you could first go to the Garlic Festival and then the Tar Pits.
To your pap smear, to hold your hand.
I love the tar pits. Are these related in some way?
Yes! | |

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 9:19:55 PM | | Those tar pits hardly have a smell--my God, hasn't anyone ever been near a house that's being reroofed? It's a fascinating, unique site--paleontologists come from around the world to study it, because it's the best of its type anywhere. If that's too boring or too "icky-smelling" for your date, it's great to know before you waste more time and money on her. Let her sit home with her People magazine. | |

I love the county fairs, Damn it, why can't you be a gay man?
Those tar pits hardly have a smell--my God, hasn't anyone ever been near a house that's being reroofed? Ewww. I have a hyper sense of smell right now because of my medication. It was hyper enough as it is without the medication. I'll have to pass on that until my goal of being off my medication is reached.

I'll start with the La Brea Tar Pits. My son used to call them "the La Brea BAR TITS". No wonder my dad liked to take him there... ... or maybe they were really going to Hooters???
|
| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 9:52:33 PM | I think the Tar Pits could be a good place for a date... & if it doesn't work out just shove her in the pit & walk down the street a bit to the Peterson Automotive Museum so the day isn't a complete wash out
As for places NOT to take a date: Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas, anyone who's been there knows why... To use the military jargon, it's a Target Rich Enviroment Jose Conseco was there today...as were seemingly half the women who work in the porn industry..

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/27/2008 11:22:44 PM | I went on a weekend date to Vegas and saw the body exhibit. It was cool.
Perhaps a nerdiness test with a number might be a good idea, prior to dating. 1 to 5.
1. Maybe a museum, but a short trip. Probably art. 2. Tar pits and Natural History Museum. 3. Seeing a sci fi flick. 4. Star Trek convention, in costume. 5. Chess tournament.

| Places not to take dates in California Posted: 4/28/2008 3:17:12 AM | | Geez, your list sounds just ****en. If I could I'd like to add that you can have a whale of a good time at Radio Shack's warehouse sale. Last year, I went with Margie (I've known her since we were in Math Club in high school.) I remember we found some super discounts on condensers and a whole box of really neat PTC thermistors at half what those babies usually go for. I made sort of an electric "gun" using that stuff. I'm tempted to say what the neighbor's wife did one day, when I shined it out the window on her as she was working in the garden. But I won't. | |

Oh wait! Possibly not the "Bodies" exhibit running in LaJolla (UTC) either. I totally disagree o4!! I would LOVE to go see this exhibit (admitting THAT is much easier than sharing my desire to watch an autopsy being performed!)
... but I guess the morgue wouldn't be the best place for a first date!
