Okay this forum is meant for us to get together. So let's begetting together.

Although I had a fantastic time the Vegas thing as a group outing was a flop. My fault. I brought it up too early, interest fizzled out and I had to cancel it, also we had some dramas here which either had people leave the group, not want to be with other people from the group, not want to be with me etc. So let's come up with some places and things to do. If you see something you'd like to organize and bring about create a new thread and lets see what happens. Let's leave this thread just for ideas for us to pick from.

Santa Monica Pier/Beach
An amusement park
A museum; The Getty, Huntington, Gene Autry Museum; in the summer time they have free concerts with alcohol served.
Another freebie Summer Concert as these are held in various cities
The Zoo

Some of the amusements are not free and cannot be turned into POF events. But I don't think there's a problem with a group of us planning a group get together as long as we're not signing up people and charging them. Okay, so what are your ideas?

I am going to Vegas next month... Sorry, I have to plan it around work and school! I just can't run off and have fun whenever I want to.

I am always up for a trip to the museum.

I think planning a POF trip to the zoo might be rather redundant.

I'm actually working next month. Sigh.

Visiting the family is too much for a first date?

That's ok for you and Bob. But what about the rest of us?

A wine tasting trip would be fun. Also maybe a train trip somewhere even if it's LA to San Diego, we can pick up people along the way. There are some vintage rail cars that can be attached to the Amtrak that are not that expensive if we have a good group and they are great for socializing.

Oh oh! Temecula has a wonderful wine country and they have bus tours that take you from winery to winery. It's really very fun!

On the subject of trains:
They run murder/mystery trains thru the orange groves out by Santa Paula/Ojai.
I think it includes dinner etc.

Don't have the first clue where they leave from tho.... Anyone else genned up on this deal?

The trains are based in Filmore.

The 3 day Mexico cruise from LA to Ensenada is set for August 22-25. Who else wants to go?

^^^aren't most cruises a tad costly?

I'm thinking the train to SD is a good idea, too.

some museums like LACMA have free jazz on Friday and Saturday evenings during this season.

Which one Bob? The idea or Barbe?? I always knew you were Bi!!

Anna, although this is definitely a great idea (I had the time of my life in August 2004, when I did this cruise with my family), it is VERY expensive! So unless you're willing to foot the bill for those of us who can't fit it into our budget, I suggest you contact the cruise lines and convince them that a free PoF cruise would be good advertisement!!

If you're into watching the horses, this one could be planned during del Mar season and they make it easy to get off at the Solana Beach Station and get to the track still in time for the first race. But beach-side hotels within a reasonable cab fare from there book up early for the season too. Of course, even without the horses running, there might be a couple of other fun things to do in San Diego too for a weekend, or even an extended one. http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts7869897.aspx
Another suggestion, which I had thought was in that thread but doesn't seem to appear there after all, is also to contact one of the sports stores like REI who can help set up individual or group classes and outings to more adventureous stuff if people are into that. Group kayaking? ....that might be a Newport Harbor thing instead though.....

I really like the idea about a train trip. I believe that the tickets can be fairly reasonable.

That probably wouldn't work for a POF event. Because the hosts can't take money there's no way to know how many people will actually show up. Do you really want to put a vintage car on your credit card and hope enough people come?

the train is extremely affordable.....even for this peon.
last summer I went by myself to meet with online friends from another site for the weekend and I recommend it. since I opted for the v.i.p. car (lol) I had a car almost to myself on the way back (Monday), complete with wine and a snack included.
the only drawback was going, it was the Comic Con weekend (this years is July 23) and it was a zoo both on the train and in SD.

it's affordable, a short ride with a view (most of the way) and as others pointed out, accessible to most along the way.

OK, how about June 1st, we meet by the tar pits. We can see LACMA for the Girls and the Peterson Auto Museum for the Boys. Then we can go and get a huge table at Canter's and eat ourselves stupid?
