But if you do...,
what do you like to play.....?
when did you learn......?
how long have you played....?
and fundamentally Why do you play.??

I now have an uber sexy bass guitar that I can't play...yet. Come the end of the month when I'll have more time, I shall start playing it properly. I hope to expand my repetoir from one song (well, two, if you count twinkle, twinkle little star).
EDIT: forgot the why bit... cos the bass is just so damn sexy and drives the music along.

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/3/2008 2:22:52 AM | I once had a girlfriend who loved nothing more than to play the "pink flute". I don't know why I ever finished with her now I come to think about it. Girls like that are not easy to come by [I'll resist the temptation to add anything smutty to the previous statement as I wouldn't wish to drag the thread down] | |

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/3/2008 2:34:22 AM | | I play the guitar, but not as much as I used to. I used to play the harmonica - badly! But I loved it. When I was younger I wanted to be a one man band, like****Van Dyke in Mary Poppins! But I didn't have the talent, unfortunately...... | |

I play because everyone can think of great tunes in their head, being able to use an instrument as a machine to express these songs is fun.

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/3/2008 9:50:31 PM | I play a little on the pianoforte. Took lessons from a nun when I was 10 or 11 for about 2 yrs. I still learn on my own from time to time, mainly classical pieces. I also enjoy playing some Scott Joplin, ragtime. I wish I had more time to practice so I can play better. I play because it is enjoyable and I really like to hear the music I create if I can play it fairly well.
Another instrument I have is my voice which I practice with everyday. Making music is joyful, spiritual...and fun!!

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/4/2008 12:08:22 AM | The trumpet, played for years but Im a bir rusty now though. I learnt when I was about 10 or so, played for about 10 years as well. I used to mainly play solo but also played in brass bands an a school orchestra etc. Started off on the cornet and moved to trumpet, I got into it since with only three keys - I thought, that must be real easy to play! haha
The hovis tune, or Largo from the 'New World' Symphony by Dvorak was a favorite, but also played Hawaii-5-O, wow wheres my trumpet I want to pick it up again!!!
I played the drums for a bit but nothing could beat the smooth crisp sound of a trumpet! I would love to play that world cup samba song by dario g haha.

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/4/2008 1:24:13 AM | I used to play bass a while back but I haven't picked one up in years. I have recently though turned my attention to learning the keyboard which is fun and I also dabble with a harmonica sometimes as well ...as long as nobody is within crooking distance of me.
I play because I like the sense of well being from progressing though learning until the point where... Actually nah, I just like making bad noise.:)

| Who here likes to play a musical instrument.? Posted: 5/4/2008 5:37:05 PM | I play the pianoforte rather badly, my favourite tunes are mostly from musicals, though I have been experimenting with Abba songs and a bit of country lately. I am learning to play the concert flute, though I find it difficult.
Accordion is what I was taught to play when young, the good old 2 row Diatonic in the key of B. Recently I purchased a 3 row chromatic hohner club in the key of B/C, and have been looking for a tutor manual for ages. I'm somewhat apprehensive to ask if anyone knows where I could lay my hands on a Fingering Chart for this instrument.
I think if you can play one instrument, it doesn't take long to pick up the basics of another.

I'd like to be able to play any instrument but have never seemed to grasp an affinity with one apart from the violin/fiddle. The first time I picked one up (about 2 years ago)...friends thought I had played before, it felt very comfortable. I want one! I also have a harmonica, apparently my dad was gifted with that instrument...I don't think its hereditory. Now I compose via my computer, making beats and basslines and finding 'real' musicaians to accompany my creations. I have been doing this now for 8 years and plan to release something in september.
I do it because music is my second love (my daughter the first, my partner the third) its another creative outlet for me and it seems I need many. Being creative keeps me sane.
