| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/3/2008 8:30:03 PM | Hi, I'm wondering if someone could help me, as I'm having trouble playing MP3 files on my windows media player on my Laptop computer. I have Windows XP, service pack2. Windows Media Player 9
Now, before I go any further I must say that my laptop is NOT hooked up to the internet. The only time I am able to go on is by using friends or relatives PC's.
The error message I am getting is this:
ERROR ID=0xC00D11C7 CONDITION ID=0x00000000
I have been downloading codecs onto flash memory from one computer and then putting it onto the laptop, but I have had no joy. I checked to see if the MP3 files I downloaded worked on the PC I had downloaded onto, and they work. I don't know how to get codecs from the PC I am on as I type this.
I hope someone can help me. I would be very, very grateful.

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/3/2008 11:22:38 PM | Cant play mp3s.... sounds like a corrupted media player install. Your best bet is to upgrade your version of windows media player to 11 just do a search on microsoft's website to download the installer and copy over as usual. as well find a way to connect the laptop to the internet even for an hour. As windows updates are critical even for computers that are not usually on the net.
hope this helps you out.

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 2:26:58 AM | Any time you are playing with codecs and you do not know what you are doing you are asking for a nightmare from hell or worse a whole fdisk and reformat so be very careful when playing with them! I would suggest the Media Player upgrade as well and to try that first. You also might have darn DMR MP3 Files which i hate and despise and would never pay for i would sooner sell my soul to the devil himself.
I would try the upgrade and then if that does not work go on google and look for the xp codec pack i can not remember where i got it from i got it saved and it is at my office in my workshop on a disk for when i work on my client's pc's i make it a habbit of putting the codecs on for them and stress how important it is not to mess with them if you do not know what you are doing!!!
I hope that gives you a little closure and makes you feel a little bit better. Post back and let me know what you find out please i would like to know.

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 8:03:37 AM | Cheers guys. Appreciate the feedback.
Have downloaded and transfered/installed XP_Codec_Pack-2.3.7 but this has not done anything. I don't want to go into something I know nothing about and risk my info being screw around.
Other than that I am still looking about. Haven't managed to connect laptop up yet, but I will keep you posted.
Again, cheers guys. | |

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 6:30:01 PM | | Personally, I avoid Windoz anything if I can get away with it. As far as playing MP3 files, I use my file manage (PowerDesk Pro). It's sort of like "my PC" on steroids. It has three panes. The one on the far left for folders, the one in the middle shows the files in any particular folder and the pane on the far right (this one's the best) is a file viewer. If, in the middle pane, you highlight an MP3 file, the viewer in the right has a built-in player. But it's also a viewer for pretty much any graphic file AND will let you view Word files, PDF files, WordPerfect files, pretty much anything which is a huge time saver because you don't have to open something like Photshop just to look at a picture and don't have to open Word just to look at a word doc. If you have an avi video file, the player will show that too. If you highlight a zip file in the middle pane, the right pane will show you what files are inside the zip file. I'd never use anything else. | |

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 8:14:19 PM | Go here and install this. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm Get the full, standard or basic install. It doesn't matter. It'll fix and add any missing codecs. | |

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 9:59:57 PM | | I had this same problem... I had to delete all my music and start new. Just certain mp3 would not play I did EVERYTHING besides reformatting. Download codecs, upgrades to media player, tried different media players nothing. Even googled the problem and EVERYONE said the same thing and nothing worked everyone was clueless. Went and download one the the same songs I was having issues with played it fine. Prolly just bad files... not sure how it happens and or why. | |

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/4/2008 10:02:49 PM | Windows doesnt support mp3 straight out of the box due to copyright issues I think? You need to download mp3 codecs. www.free-codecs.com is good plus k-lite codec pack plays all the video files. | |

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/12/2008 1:21:27 PM | Try using vlc it's a media player that supports many audio and video formats.
If you can't get vlc to play your mp3 I don't know what will ;)

| WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER will not play certain files Posted: 5/18/2008 12:43:56 AM | Defintely could be some corruption in the media player. I would definitely suggest that you download CCleaner from softpedia or download.com.
Then I would use that to uninstall your media player, then clean up any registry issues. Then you can either install a microsoft media player or even better download a much more stable media player such as VLC player. YOu can either google it or just download it from videolan.org/vlc to get it.
VLC will play any format from ogg vorbis, wmf, wmv, mov. mp3 and any other video and audio file.
