| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/4/2008 9:01:04 AM | | I was watching a music video show last night and, while the videos were great,in some of them the music seemed like it was just a backing track for the clip! It sometimes seems that music is becoming more visual than aural today....do you love the videos of your favourite songs more than the songs themselves? | |

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/4/2008 3:38:56 PM | I'm a big cinema fan. i love every aspect of films. Editing, photo, lighting and of course music. ;)
But i don't like music videos. They used to be allright. but now big shot directors thinking they're Marty Scorcese or Kubrick are trying to outshine what's supposed to be the focus in the first place: the music.
As far as music is concerned, i am an Audio man!
[phoque videos... and i don't give a rat's ass about MTV!]

Sometimes videos add to the music, but often I think to myself that this kind of music would go much better with much different visual stuff. In the right kind of video, like Michael Jackson's Thriller, the merging of music and visual text is kind of like cinema in the aforemantioned way.

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/7/2008 12:28:35 PM | I collect music videos, Films & Music but have to say that sometime the music can save a film from being a complete wast of time.
music videos are different in that you have too powers one the power of the music and then there's the Artist/Group who sometimes should have been shot for even thinking of doing a video but the music stops the bullet
I've been looking for the video to "Video killed the radio star" for ages now I've been reminded I'll go hunting again

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/9/2008 3:13:33 AM | "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles.
The first video ever played on MTV.
Just a bit of pointless trivia.
Never cared much for the "concept" videos. They just seem to be a lesson in artistic ego than anything else. The only one in that vein that i ever really liked was Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt", it was basically his goodbye. The only videos i've ever cared for were the concert type videos. But then i'm not a big music video watcher.

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/11/2008 7:29:05 AM | | In some cases, music videos helped put many bands on the map, like Poison, Judas Priest & Metallica. But, the same concept also killed many bands & singers i.e. Billy Squier's "Rock Me Tonite." | |

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/12/2008 6:07:01 PM | Video really did kill the radio star.
As music segued from the AM dial to FM, so started the rather quick death of the Radio Star.
Of the many thousands of radio stations broadcasting "content" today, the stars are numbered to a very few. Most programing content is tightly controlled with little creative effort on the part of people on the air.
Ironically, one the grand daddy's of top 40 radio just died a few weeks back. And other's with similar talent are passing on as well.
A great website devoted to the real radio stars is ReelRadio.

And here's an example of what really talented radio used to sound like:

So it's really true.
Video killed the radio star.

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/13/2008 3:47:10 AM | What is so sad is that many talented people will never get a chance to be heard because they don't have the look.
Sadder is that many UNtalented people will be heard because they do.
Most sad is that people (especially kids) will equate talent with good looks...thus the quality of music just declines.

| Video killed the radio star?? Posted: 5/17/2008 9:45:06 PM | absolutely not. as a matter of fact, with the hard disk recording today... it seems that cut and paste song writing has replaced actually knowing something about writing... playing... etc.
it seems that music is becoming less melodic. i mean, when was the last time you heard a song with a great counter melody?
