| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 5/6/2008 11:32:17 AM | I have a program called "CD Architect" that I got from a fellow programmer at a radio station who worked with ProTools. Similar idea, but no more than a 4 track ability and you can't pitch the individual tracks, so you need to either fade out fast or keep them all in the same BPM.
You can track count as you go, or let it mix down into one huge track.
I used to use it to mix early sets in clubs, or do small dance sets between bands I was working with...it was awesome for workouts too when I used a portable CD player...
It's pretty simple to use - he gave me a cracked version a few years ago, so I don't know where he got it, but it should be easy enough to track down if you're a music buff (and know anyone who'd have heard of it or can get it for you).
Hope that helps! | |

| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:49:13 AM | | I also recommend Audacity. It's free and can do exactly what you want. Rip the songs to WAV files, import them into Audacity, and away you go. | |

I doubt it's free but it's been around for a long time and maybe earlier versions are free.. You can use it as a multi track or to merge songs, time strecth and more besides.. There are truckloads of plugins for it and a major forum for fans of the program.

| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 6/3/2008 5:09:53 PM | Audacity is simply an editor, no facility to mix tracks..and fruity's interface makes it rather tedious for mixing, i once created a live set in FL Studio and it took ages to bring all the different elements together..not ideal.
Ableton Live is pretty much the standard for computer mixing and has a heck of a lot of other features to allow you to put some originality into it however, Acid Pro is fairly easy to use and you can chuck some fx in.
there's also Traktor by Native Instruments and a program called mixmeister but i'd recommend looking into getting Ableton Live.

| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 6/6/2008 9:22:20 PM | Pro Tools is the best recording program hands down. I've tried everything else. Propellerheads Reason 4 is the best MIDI application/arrangement program out there as well. If you really want to get crazy, anything by Native Instruments including their libraries are great too.

| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 6/9/2008 6:26:22 AM | if you wanna pay for a really decent program get Ableton
Im guessing you're djing rather than mixing recordings (as in bass, drums, guitars etc) but Reaper is amazing - many people paying £500 for software have converted to this free app. Comes with all the tools you need...just google it.
Ardour looks beautiful if you're on a mac (freeware as well)
Traktor is good for djing, though not free.
For all sorts of handy tools click here - www.dontcrack.com. Aimed at people wanting free audio software so fill your boots. Click on either sequencers or djs, depending on what you are doing.

| A computer program for mixing music?? Posted: 6/16/2008 2:44:04 AM | I use Cubase SX, my primary tool. I have other programs to play with, Reason which can be wired into Cubase, good for drum samples. Also got Ableton, Fruity Loops and other well known ones, but I dont really make full use of those, there all great but I kinda stick to Cubase as Ive grown to the layout of the program.
But they all cost, Ive never come across a free tool for mixing with lots of editing features, so Im not much of a help here, sorry.
Though anybody got any works they like to share? Are we aloud to post links to our own music sites?
