Kobe Bryant MVP?

Looks like this douche is going to win MVP. Can't argue against his numbers and his skills, but he's not the MOST Valuable Player. He's not even the MVP of his own team - you could make a real strong case for Gasol as the most valuable Laker.

Chris Paul was robbed of the MVP. If Kobe isn't on the Lakers, they're in the hunt for the playoffs. If Paul isn't playing for the Hornets, they're a bottom dwelling team without a snowballs chance in Hell of even sniffing the Playoffs.

I guess it was Kobe's "turn", as some A Hole on the Jim "I suck at my job" Rome Show just said.

I hate to be the one to break this to you but without Kobe the Lakers would have missed the playoffs easily. This is the West we are talking about. 48-34 wasn't good enough to make the playoff for the Warriors(who finished 9 games behind the Lakers). I'm not sure that this Laker team could afford to lose Kobe. The little things that he does(leading the team in steals, shooting the most Fts at a high %, always taking on the top scorer from the other team). Kobe has never gotten much credit for being the best defender on that team because everyone falls in love with his 81 potential. Chris Paul doesn't have to shut down a scorer because it's not a point guard scoring league. I think the top scoring point guard is probably Baron Davis.

Don't get me wrong. I can't stand Kobe as a person but as a player he was deserving of the MVP. The Hornets got blown out more than anyother playoff team in the west this season besides the Nuggets. The Hornets lost 15 games by double digits this season with Paul on the court. I know it's "easier" for Kobe supposedly but that team without him would resemble Philadelphia at best and there is no way Phillly would make the playoffs in the West.

Not a big NBA fan, but I thought much the same as you corey: that Paul deserved it and that Koby would likely win it.

As for Jim Rome, agreed 100%.

I can only imagine what he said to that ....

"It was Kobe's turn."
"Hey Kobe. It's your turn."
"It's your turn Kobe."
"Congrats Kobe. It's your turn."
"Hey Kobe, it's your turn to win the NBA MVP.":
"Nice try Paul. Maybe next yet. This year is Kobe's turn."
"Yay Kobe. You may not deserve it but it's your turn, man."

And on and on for another 28 minutes, saying the same thing over and over and over (and over and over and over) again.

If Jim Rome ever had a show where he only made every smart a$$ comment once, the entire show would be 14 minutes long

Kobe's been deserving of the mvp for the last 3 years at least! Gasol is good but most of his shots have to be sit up for him. I don't understand the hate on kobe whats the deal?

mikemurray, check the Lakers record before Gasol and after Gasol. Then check their record with and without him. That's where my point is coming from. And I never said the Lakers would make the Playoffs without Kobe - but they don't finish no lower than 9 or 10th in the west, either. The Hornets would have one of the worst records in the league without Chris Paul.

I'll be the first to admit, I despise Kobe Bryant, and I might not give him the credit he deserves at times... but I'm not budging on this one.

pundnit, I wish his show was only 14 minuets long. I sometimes don't pay attention to my TV while I'm online, and of course it stays on ESPN... but as soon as his show comes on, my ears start to burn from the sound of his condescending, egomaniac voice. 95% of the time I'll turn it. I'd rather watch freaking oxygen channel - I don't care. But he had LT as a guest today. So I watched. By the way, it's funny - the best guest in the history of his show (besides the time he got his a** kicked, of course) and it's not even football season. Lol, Tomlisnson was on there plugging a Campbell's Soup commercial. No one likes Rome.

I don't have a hate-on for Kobe. But when you talk about MVP of the league, if he wasn't good enough to win it all the years that he led th league in numbers, how can the league justify honouring him once his numbers dropped.
It's basically a 180-degreee about-face from how they didn't give Steve Nash his third consecutive MVP because his numbers weren't as good as those who won the award three times in a row before him (Larry Bird and Bill Russell).
If the NBA uses history as a deciding factor, which they clearly did with Nash, then they should have done the same with Bryant. If he wasn't MVP back then, how does the league justify giving it to him now?

I question your knowledge of basketball, Kobe does deserve this MVP award. If Kobe wasn't with this team there is no chance that they would have made the playoofs, and to say look at what Gasol did.... yeah, Gasol played great.... with Kobe.

As for the it's his turn debate, yeah he got alot of votes because of the fact that he is Kobe. A few years back 90% of the fan votes believed Kobe deserved the MVP trophy only to be stunned to see KG win it. But don't forget, he lead a team nobody was talking about to be the premier team of the league. All season he has had a severe injury that should have had surgery to be repaired, but he has stuck it out. He has become a true team player, is no longer negative towards his young players when they make a mistake, he has come along way from last year.

No matter what, there will be Kobe haters for whatever reasons, he IS the best player in the world at this time. No matter who you are, your in a fantasy draft situation there are only two people you look at... Lebron for statistics and Kobe for all around play.

I am not upset to see him win it, sure I was gunning for CP3 to get it, but alot of the resons people say CP3 deserved, most can be said for Kobe aswell. I am a huge Hornets fan, and definately Paul could have taken it... but the Lakers were #1 in the west... they played with a decent team for half the year and then pulled off a rediculous trade with a team just looking to sell off the team. Sure Gasol put them over the top, but Kobe is the reason that SHOWTIME may be happening in the NBA Finals this year.

The star player of the team with the best record in the west seems to be consistently winning the MVP. You have to look at the Lakers as the winningest team in the more difficult conference and who do they credit most for their success. If the Hornets would have held the number one seed then, you would have a better argument for Chris Paul. And don't downplay Stoycavich[sp] and Weston's contrbutions to the Hornets. Not all of Paul's assists are at the rim. The Hornets wouldn't be amongst the worst teams in the NBA without Paul.
KevinGarnett will get the most important award in the NBA. MVP of the Finals.

hopefully the trend stays on course and the best player on the winniest team in the west does not win the championship yet again, like the last 2 years. i would have voted for chris paul, but alot of that is because i do not like kobe at all,i think kobe was deserving just not as much as paul, i think its unfair that people make the agrument that kobe is the best player never to win the award, its not a life time acheivment award.about garnett, i would like to see him win a championship, but i mean come on he beat out tim ducan for all nba first team, i like garnett, but thats like putting carson palmer on the pro-bowl team over tom brady, dont count the spurs out yet, but i must be honest if the spurs were to lose i wouldnt mind it beeing to the chris paul and the hornets

The NBA MVP award is just like any other award. The best player who has the best season does not always win. Even though it is suppossed to be given to the best player that particular season, the body of work is taken into account. CP3 was robbed this year, but if he continues to play at a high level every year, they will eventually have to give it to him. At least if he has to lose, it's to another great player who also had a great year. It's not like they gave it to Stephon Marbury or something.

I agree - the best player on the best team got it. (And yes, winner of the West is the best team - WAY more competitive).

Kobe could have won it many years - he's that good. But this year he finally learned to not be only about himself. Yes, the team got better when Gasol joined. But he's been in the league a long time and never done much - it's not just Gasol. It's the combo of people - like most teams.

I hate Kobe as much as the next person, but I can't deny he deserved this. I was WAY more upset last year when Dirk won over Nash - he's been a career no-show (and this year was no different!).

CP3 - I love him, but it's true - his time will come. And he'll always be battling with Deron for that award...
