| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/7/2008 3:38:30 PM | Eg "I got sucked into a Real World marathon once and my ex-husband said "reality tv is an oxymoron".....what I always wondered was how could people act naturally while they had a microphone pack attached to their waists and a sound mic turned on overhead. I would soon find out." (Erin Gruewell from the biographical teaching memoir Teach With Your Heart)
What do you guys think? | |

From what I remember they seemed real enough and Anna was certainly medicated at times

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/8/2008 12:46:34 AM | Reality TV, whotta crock! Let's have an interview every five minutes, because that's what we do in real life, right? Uh oh, I gotta go,it's time for the bi-hourly interview! Somebody's going to stick a microphone in my face and ask why I can't stand live shows about self-absorbed a$$h0)es... | |

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/8/2008 7:51:17 AM | I watch the competition reality shows on Bravo. Project Runway and Top Chef. I find they stick to the art of the competition and don't drag out the stupid drama as much. When MTV was still good and actually played music videos, I was sucked in the real world. The last series I remember watching was Hawaii. Those shows don't do anything for me anymore. I think the worst is the Hills. I just got my new issue of Rolling Stone and the cast is on the cover. I threw the whole magazine in the trash. I could care less about those people. I want to read about music and politics, not about some stupid fued going on between to girls that refuse to grow up. I'm to busy living my own life. | |

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:56:04 AM | As jimi77 said, I heard they edit the footage quite a lot to skew the perspective of everything that happened to seem more diabolical or dramatic in some way. I heard some people on the shows say that things really didn't happen the way they were portrayed. That's it's almost as bad as recording someone saying 'I don't feel well enough to move around. I need to sleep for a bit' and then edit it to say "I sleep around.' | |

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/8/2008 10:25:18 AM | They probably shoot what....6-8 hours to get 1 hour for television? (I'm just guessing)
Keeping that in mind, I love watching The Bachelor, Hell's Kitchen, and The Amazing Race. Not much else. It's nothing more than entertainment with amateurs instead of actors (cheaper!!).

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/15/2008 2:51:17 PM | | Well, how can people really relax and be themselves with cameramen following them everywhere, filming them....people will either act crazy or be on their best behavior. | |

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:48:56 PM | only the highlights are shown. Not all the boring everyday stuff...
As they say...reality bites.

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:53:27 PM | About two years ago, I worked at a restaurant and some reality show about losing weight came in to film, I forget which one it was, didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to it. The front half of the place was pretty much shut down for close to 5 hours they shot and reshot so many times. One meal. 5 hours. Haven't liked reality TV since Survivor first came on the air, and still can't stand it. So staged! | |

| How real is reality tv? Posted: 5/15/2008 9:31:44 PM | | the term “reality t.v" should be replaced with a new term “mostly unrealistic and bad t.v that t.v executives try to sell to dumb people as reality t.v" although I do enjoy Top chief and Beauty and the geek | |
