Camping Trip June 6-8, 2008

Families & Singles, everyone welcome!
Check in/out time is noon.
Kankakee South KOA costs:
The owner is accommodating POF, and has blocked many tent sites, a few trailer sites too, all close to each other. One tent site has water & electric we can use for the group. If we have a large group, he will let us use the Pavillion Saturday for free. The reduced flat rate cost he is giving us is $5 per person per night. (Kids and adults)
(Usual costs are $27 per night for tent site, $30 per night for tent site with water & electric, so they are being very kind to us. )
I am planning an agenda for those who want to partake:
Friday afternoon & evening fishie arrival and camp set up, bond fire 8pm
Saturday morning canoe trip details, possible horseback riding details, fishie cookout dinner 5pm and evening bond fire.
More details later as to what to bring...........
For now I have to have a final head count in by May 28th. If you want to go, please sign up for the event, and send me an email with your contact info, so I can get you details as we get closer. You will also need to call KOA at 1-800-562-4192 and rsvp with your credit card for the number of people in your group so they can assign you the type of site you need. Keep in mind the warm season is here, so things will fill up quickly. If we need more sites early enough they can accommodate us.
I have made many new friends from the POF gatherings, and many have requested a camping event, so here it is!!! Sign up and let's pray for no rain! Laurie

i'm gonna have to pack lightly 'cause i'll be coming on saturday. no inflatable mattress, just the bags and tent. lets see; flashlight, matches, lawn chair, paper plates, forks, prepared food, jingle bells, hatchet; do they have showers? bears? i'm just kidding. do they have any trails? how far are we from the river?
i'll be bringing my son with so i willprobably bring a wiffle ball/bat; mitts.
what am i forgetting?

I am soooooo glad you are going! Don't forget some good wine, a deck of cards, and stuff for smores!!!! haha...I don;t even like those things! My kids are coming too, my oldest with her boyfriends, and maybe a friend or two of theirs, and my 8 year old, she loves camping!!! I am going to try and organize some games for saturday night too once I know who is all coming and what the ages of the kids are. Its going to be a blast!!! And there is no way you can beat $5 per person per night, the owner of the campground is doing some great things for us, btween the flat rate, and he is going to set up a portable pavilion down by us too to use. There is a dog walk, and pets are also welcome. I can hardly wait......... Laurie | |

Of course we will help you put up your tent no problem. I plan on getting there and setting up shop sometime Friday afternoon, so no problem. My 19 daughter and her friends will be there too, so there will be lots of hands to help, no worries! We are glad you will be coming!!! Laurie

thanks for reminding me about the smores!!! whats a camp trip without them? my tent is new from last year so i may need help too; i probably threw away the directions.
what about pets? i have a 3 y/o boxer. i can probably get someone to let him out at home but let me know.
lisa is supposed to be coming with her two boys too. i may let my son bring a friend.
are we close to the river there? should i bring my fishing poles?

let me know if you want me to make anythng. in the past i found shish ka bobs were easy. i'd cut everything up and bag them before i left. maybe a watermelon? seed spitting contest?

I am so excited I can hardly wait! Cool that your son is the same age. No problem on the tent, in fact my old Coleman has direction sewn into the tote bag, but we will figure it out. Yes, we are actually close to 2 rivers, which is where the canoeing is. I say bring the poles, we are bringing ours. Dogs are also welcome, and they even have a dog run area to walk them, I heard they even supply the baggies. We have a Golden Retriever, and we may bring her along as well. We will figure out what to bring as we get a bit closer. I can hardly wait................................. Laurie | |

Thanks so much! I will not bring my youngest, (grandma's) but will bring my 5 and 7 yr olds.
I am relatively new at this single again thing. I am learning all about duct tape and krazy gluing things together...redneck improvisation...but I am proud to be one. LOL. 
Can't wait 2 meet up with all of you!

Posted: 5/11/2008 7:41:18 AM | I would love to come that weekend, but I will be going to the IL State HOG (Harley Ownders Group) Rally in Effingham, IL that weekend. I will keep my eye out for any other camping outings that are planned. I LOVE to go camping either with my toy hauler/camper or throw a tent on the back of the motorcycle. It should be a great time there at the Kankakee Koa...I was there a couple weeks ago. There are showers with hot water and flush toilets.

If so, this single dad will make it! For those needing help with their tents, I'll be happy to help. I LOVE camping! I think this is a great idea.
Are there ideas for food? I mean, camping food is half the fun. What about a big fish fry, or perhaps a buffett style, you know, where everyone brings one dish? I forget what that's called, but they are fun!
Depending on the number of kids, any ideas for maybe some games? I'll be happy to organize the 'find the flag' or somthing else. Its my excuse to be a kid, sometimes adults are just boring sitting around a fire drinking and smoking!
Anyhow, glad to see this and am curious how its going to pan out. I'll sign up before the 28th. | |

Fishies of every age are wlecome and we would love to have you. Trouble is they only have one cabin, and as of now its rented. Not sure if they rent trailers? You might want to call the campground and ask. I did reserve a couple of trailer sites too in case we have fishies with trailers. Laurie | |

We will talk about food and "potluck" about a week before the trip once we know how many are going. We will have a big dinner saturday night about 5pm, then I thought it would be fun to have some games for the kids, and maybe adults too.
