| Any Dane Cook fans? Posted: 5/8/2008 4:52:51 PM | | Yeah that BG, those two boys have no sense of humor! Oh god, his throwing up routine is soooo funny, especially when he perches on top of the stool. Perhaps neither *person* saw my thread titled *Any Dane Cook fans?* Where does it say *Does anyone wanna bash Dane Cook?* Anyway, the movie pretty much sucked all around. | |

| Any Dane Cook fans? Posted: 5/9/2008 8:34:40 AM | | Ever hear of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Bill Hicks, Gary Shandling, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock or Dennis Miller? Those are funny comedians, Dane Cook is frat boy comedy. For the faux hawk crowd who pop their collars. | |

Nice...a comedy purist. I like all those guys too, but that doesn't mean just because I like the old timers I can't like someone new and different. For pissakes it's comedy. If it makes you laugh it makes you laugh. It's an art form, how can you argue that.

I kid. Dane is one of my favorites. He's not my top, but he makes me laugh and I dig his performances. That's all I ask for my comedians.
Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan are my favorites currently.

| Any Dane Cook fans? Posted: 5/18/2008 5:43:16 AM | Reasons not to like Dane Cook:
1. He steals jokes from other comedians. As many of you already know, Dane Cook is from Boston. But there is another comedian who calls Boston his home that somehow came up with the same jokes as Dane Cook, but earlier. His name is Louis CK. I found this comparison on Youtube that you all might be interested in seeing. It points out the similarities between Dane's 2005 album and a 2001 stand up act by Louis CK. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dz3_ZYYE9II
On a similar note. Dane Cook has a reputation for aggressively trying to sue other comedians for having material too similar to his own. Hey, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, right?
2. Robert Klein, Jim Breuer, and David Cross (who I absolutely LOVE) have all openly talked about their hatred for Mr. Cook. Why? Mostly it's because of the material, but it has to do partially with Cook himself. In a comedy club in Rhode Island Cook did a surprise set before a headliner and ran past his time bleeding into the other performers act. That's a lack of professional courtesy. It doesn't matter how famous you are you NEVER do that. If you look at people from "The Comedians of Comedy" it is all a social network where people respect other peoples material. No matter how many fans you fill in a stadium, it must be hard to go home and have people you respect not respect you. I kind of feel bad for Dane, but there has to be a reason why his peers won't respect him.
3. His fans. When a Dane Cook "superfan" meets a Dane Cook "not-so-much-of-a-fan", the superfan then feels the need to verbally assault the non fan in an attempt to convert them. We have already seen that here in the first page of this thread. It's almost like the superfan is so insecure with their decision to like Dane Cook that they must support their opinion by recruiting a massive army of Cook superfans.
4. I get exhausted watching Dane Cook. Not only does he maneuver around the stage in a spastic fashion, but his joke go nowhere. "Where are the punchlines?" one might ask. Answer: Not in Dane Cook's shows.
Set them up, Knock them down. Set them up knock it down. That's the basic formula of a joke. Setup, and then a punchline. But watch Dane Cook's stand up material and you will see something bizarre. There are hardly any punchlines. Where there should be a joke, there is a noise, or a funny face. Where is the joke? There is no joke. Dane Cook is the master of manipulation. He would of made a great cheerleader in high school. In terms of energy I have never seen anyone control a crowd so effectively. But in terms of telling a joke he falls flat. If you drank a shot of liquor for every punchline uttered from Dane Cook, it would take you three comedy specials to get drunk.
Only Dane Cook fans can find humor in him talking about Burger King's new menu for half an hour.
5. There is no meaning or purpose behind Cook's comedy. It is totally void of anything important, controversial, or fresh.
Three comedians before Cook have achieved his level of success. Steve Martin, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor have all played to thousands of people but their material pushed boundaries in comedy. Pryor engaged both white and black audiences discussing race relations and his own troubled personal life. Carlin attacked everything from religion and politics, to censorship and farting in public. Martin created a stage character that was wild and wacky but was also inventive and personable. And after realizing the price of fame can be a disaster, Martin wrote and starred in a catalog of films that are now classics. Cook? Well, that's the thing. In terms of being a comic the only thing to learn from him is that you can create a franchise and sell t-shirts. Fifty years from now Pryor's material will still be valuable by touching on universal themes, while jokes about Burger King may not. Only time can tell.
dane has great material, unfortunately some dont understand the sheer reality in it. That is what we can call a questionable comment.
People only bash Dane Cook cuz they're jealous that the women swoon over him... Yes, I am sure that's it.
Dane cook is an amazing actor second only to george carlin Now THAT was funny. Please remind me. How many Academy Awards has George Carlin won for his "amazing" acting abilities? None? Oh, then you are right, he is the only actor greater than Dane Cook. WHAT!?!?!?!?

| Any Dane Cook fans? Posted: 5/21/2008 4:28:00 PM | | Since no one has tried to defend Dane Cook since I posted last, I guess Dane Cook superfans aren't so loyal after all. | |
