| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 8:56:12 PM | | So I saw a profile, on another site actually, and the guy said he did not like excessive piercings. Now that made me curious, since this day in age piercings are so popular, I have a hard time gauging what would be considered excessive. I personally have 9 in my ears plus my belly button and nose done for a total of 11, which I've been told is pretty much in the realm of normal. So what would you consider as excessive piercings? | |

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:05:16 PM | | Excessive piercings would be like 3 rings in your nose and your left buttock pierced, along with your temple and a few rings in your nipples.... | |
|
| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:07:57 PM | I think people who have excessive piercings do it on purpose. They know and they like it.
The purpose was for people to be horrified.
Yours as described don't seem excessive. The fact that you're concerned that they might be excessive tells me you'll be just fine.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:10:23 PM | | Whether someone's piercings are excessive or not is completely subjective and based on each individual's personal taste. What one person would consider excessive, another would not. So the only opinions that really matter would be yours and the man in your life, no? | |

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:13:40 PM | | That seems a little overkill to me, but I'm probably a bit of a minimalist on my views there. I'm the kind of person that thinks more than 3 in the ears are a little much and anything else is almost always too much for me. | |

When my girls were teens, they wanted to get piercings (beyond their ears, which were already pierced) and one wanted tattoos. I never allowed it. One day, many years later, I went to the airport to pick up my oldest daughter. When she walked up, she didn't even say "hello", she said, "Look what I got!" and stuck out her tongue. ::sigh:: She has a few tattoos now as well.

What is that? Logic?
We'll have none of that around here lady...
As to the OP? Hard to say. I'm rather conservative, so probably not much beyond the usual.
Although in 2008, the usual is not what the usual used to be...so who knows anymore.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:27:43 PM | Of course im sure most would not agree with me, but regardless of what is "the norm" now today and while i am surrounded with such things, I, like a small percentage of individuals would potentially consider more than ears and a nose piercing to be "excessive" Some people are a little more old fashioned than others, it is a simple as that, nothing more. | |

Sounds like how it seems to go around here.
I have seen very few people that 'weird' piercings add anything or tattoos, either. I think I can count both on one hand. I only know one person that I thought tattoos actually looked good. Everyone else they either add nothing or actually take away some. Only a few people with the piercings and they only have their ears pierced and have a little tiny stud in the nose or about the top of the lip.
I'm probably stuck in some alternate universe I don't belong in with all these views of mine.

I'm just curious not concerned as I have no intentions of taking any of them out. I really don't see mine as excessive, more in the realm of normal these days .

Agreed. So I suppose I'm good since its just me. Man in my life lol. I seem to scare them off rather quickly these days.

He he... Why do you think I claim a status of an alien?
OP, if you are setting off metal detectors at the airport this migh be a sign of eccessive piercing.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:38:36 PM | You may be excessively pierced...
If there's more steel in YOU than a volkswagen, ... If you're setting off the metal detector in the airport from the parking lot, ... If you use more chrome polish than a Harley owner, ... If old guys in shorts and black socks keep 'finding' you buried in the sand at the beach... If driving past the hospital sets off the MRI alarms... If the combined weight of your rings, hoops, barbells, etc is more than your birth-weight... USSteel is stalking you... Your GPS always points to YOU as north...
That's all I got.... anyone else want to add some?
[no, piercings don't bother me even if I am an old fart. My son has 6 and has set off metal detectors- now THAT was funny.]

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 9:45:57 PM | ClassyfiedAlly- My parents limited me to 2 holes in each ear and absolutely nothing else till I was 18. Which I think might have back fired into why I have any many in my ears as I do, but now that I have them I don't want to take them out :)
Oddly enough I would never consider getting any tattoos, much to permanent for my taste. Nor would I ever wear anything but a small crystal stud in my nose. Which even my ultra conservative mother said she thought looked good, which is a heck of a compliment lol

Good deal with the tattoos. I only have one. It's a rabbit being pulled out of a top-hat, on my lower left hip. Even though I hate it, hide it, it still helps when I'm in the steam rooms. For example:
Woman walks in, she says hi. We chat. She looks down. That's a peculiar tattoo I smirk, and I respond
"You know how Houdini got paid to get out of things? Yeah, I get paid to get inside"
But back on topic, piercings can be sexy. And piercing can always close over time, you don't even have to wear the rings if you don't want to. But all in all, my opinion would be three piercings tops. And the third's pushing it.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 10:06:14 PM | I know a guy. Im pretty sure he got a Prince Albert just so he could whip it out in public.
Ive actually seen people request him to do this, he ALWAYS complies.
Takes all kinds I guess.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/8/2008 10:58:04 PM | I used to have a total of 19 piercings, for me excessive is probably a bit different than most people.
I know people that thought I was lightly done when I had a 00, a 4, and an 8 in each ear, 2 in my tongue, and one in my eyebrow. I know other people that think I'm wearing to much when I only have a 12ga in each ear.
Personally I think body art should compliment, as opposed to over whelm, the woman. Again, that's totally subjective.
I'm happy to have typed out all that and not have helped one bit

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/9/2008 12:12:56 AM | I'm fairly open-minded about these things. I'm a former dirty little punk rock kid, and have three tats on my back, and a single piercing in each ear.
Yet I'm still kinda conservative, I take my earrings out for formal events, and I'd like my date to be able to pull off a LBD and pearls with ease. As far as what you mentioned, nine in your ear is a bit excessive. This is merely my opinion.
In general, nothing on your face except a single nose piercing.
Earlobe dilations are simply disturbing.
Nipples are fine, as well as vulva. They're hidden and potentially functional. But I saw a girl with the top of her wrist pierced once; again, disturbing.
Tats, if they're done very well, and particularly if they have a theme, can be unlimited. The right woman can pull off inked sleeves in a strapless dress, though sleeves aren't for me personally.

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/9/2008 5:58:21 AM | I never saw the appeal of having my skin + flesh pierced then forced to grow around bits of metal, might be attractive and different to some but eww | |

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/9/2008 6:31:17 AM | Once you get more than just the accessory factor, it becomes too much. Ok in this day having 25 piercing is "normal". But look at who is asked the question. As one poster here like to say "don't ask for hunting advice from the deer" My opinion is that more than 2 or 3 in the ears is excessive. Nose, nipple, navel, and other places are extreme and done for attention. I used to work for a trucking company that had a guy working in the shop that was into this "art form". He had piercings all over his face and head. He also was covered in ink everywhere. This guy was to be the mechanic that worked on my truck that day. When he was telling me all that needed to be done, all I could do was stare at the freak. He asked me what was wrong. I just said "I'm doing what you wanted." He didn't understand. I then explained to him that it was obvious he was seeking attention by being "different" and that I was giving him the attention he sought. He didn't care for my comments, but oh well. | |

| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/9/2008 6:38:30 AM | I had a friend who got a nasty one on her chest!! haha.. AHHHH
I have my ears done.. once.. a ear is extremely small for 9 piercings!! seems excessive to me.. 2 or 3 on a ear can be cute if its done tastefully.. and a nose or a tongue piercing can be cute as well.. but too many in one spot is just too many..
|
| What would you see as excessive piercings? Posted: 5/9/2008 10:14:36 AM | For me if it is distracting or if they are doing it for an obvious cry for attention then in my mind it is excessive. What you have is not excessive at all.
I have seen people with eyebrow piercings, lip piercings, and many in places I just don't even want to know. But then again it isn't too common for folks around my age to get all that stuff done to them. It is mostly people much younger.
