| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/12/2008 4:06:26 AM | I recently read a report about a bloke who was using his mobile phone while it was plugged into the charger...there was a power surge and it backfired, blowing off three of his fingers and burning his ear!
The same report also mentions the suggestion that using a mobile phone regularly can cause brain cancer, tumours and all sorts of other nasty stuff. I'm surgically attached to mine most of the day, mainly for work, and I'd be totally lost without it! But if they're dangerous, I don't want to put myself at risk!
What do other forumites think? Should I ditch the moby and brush up on my sign language skills?? Or am I being a complete wuss??

| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/12/2008 4:15:02 AM | | Loads of reports have said they are dangerous, and many more have said they aren't. All that is known is that emissions from them are coming down all the time. However...... take into account that the emissions from your hoover are 1000 times worse, your fridge is 500 times worse and using a microwave is 4000 times worse. Sitting at the PC, especially if you have a flat screen monitor, is also hundreds of times worse than your mobile. In theory we should all be cancer riddled throughout our entire bodies from the age of 3 if all the reports are to be believed. | |

That sounds like one of "those" stories that does the rounds, though I can imagine it would present difficulties if he didn't notice till he waved goodby to the boss!
In terms of radiation, who knows? But, I always laugh when I see TV pictures of phone mast objectors en masse, because you can always see several of them chatting away on their phones while protesting!

We all seem wanting to be contactable at all times, our jobs demand this but whatever happened to the days before the mobile phone, is everything in our lives that important that it has to be done right away. Yes i do have a mobile phone but i do not carry it on me all the time, if people want me they will leave a message and i will call them back simple.

If you are worried don't stick your phone down your ear when you use it, and don't leave it switched on in places like trains whre it will work twice as hard to get a signal.

See, I never even thought of that!! Ok, note to self....don't use mobile phone EVER on public transport...
But it's hard to wean yourself off being instantly contactable night or day... I feel a detox coming on...

Hell yeah, my ex caught me texting one of those gorgeous women you see on the adverts for 'flirt and date with real women like these'. She proceeded to beat me around the head with her frying pan...I say hers as I never used it. To add insult to injury the 'real woman like these' turned out to be a welder called Brian from Hull....just goes to show you cant trust anybody these days.

Otherwise
No | |

Giving one to your teenage daughter and looking at the bill can cause a heart attack. being hit between the eyes by a 1997 siemens s10,now that is deadly.

I suppose they do carry csertain risks, but every everyday things do that anyway, you're not gonna stop crossing roads just incase you get run over, your not gonna stop eating incase you choke, your not gonna stop mopping ur kitchen floor incase u slip lol
It does just sound like a horror story to put people off using them... better be careful next time I send a text, dont wanna break a finger!!

Blimey I think they stopped having mobiles with aerials 20 years ago...
being hit between the eyes by a 1997 siemens s10 It's about all it's good for
Naaaaa mobiles are like all electrical goods, use them sensibly and they're fine

| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/12/2008 2:42:14 PM | It amazes me how few people know you shouldnt use a mobile phone while filling the car with petrol.
There have been a few instances of cars blowing up because of phones !

sounds like one of "those" stories that does the rounds
Absolutely, havent you all had the bizarre e-mail complete with an 'actual real life' picture showing two phones either side of an egg - with text detailing how quickly (or slowly really) the phones cooked the egg......
I was devastated.... will have to re-think my mobile communications requirements...
And as for:
hit between the eyes by a 1997 siemens s10,now that is deadly
Everrrrrybody knows getting hit anywhere near the eyes with siemens is deadly, dont they.....?

| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/16/2008 3:05:00 PM | they are dangerous!
four of my friends and myself taped three different brands of mobiles to the outside of a grenade, removed the pin and threw it in the air.
none of the three survived the impact and i nearly had my eye out! DANGEROUS!!!
for the record and as a public service, pigeons, guinea pigs and tinned pineapple are also as dangerous

| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/16/2008 3:48:27 PM | It's not a case of "are mobile phones dangerous".... It is a case of "Are mobile phones used dangerous WHEN USED INCORRECTLY"....
It's a basic risk assessment: Sending txts, talking for a short while is not dangerous. Driving & talking without a handsfree is dangerous. Talking for hours, with the charger plugged in is going to overheat the phone & it will probably backfire...

| Are mobile phones dangerous? Posted: 5/16/2008 4:02:30 PM | ... talking of cars...
did you know that the petrol guage icon on your dash tells you which side the petrol filler is located on??..
take a look at your car tomorow - if the nozzle on the tank on the guage is hanging from the right, then your petrol filler is on the right hand side of your car, and likewise for the left..
check it out!!
