Anyone had them done?

I have had two lots - the first was when I was about 36, and was a bit of a Dodgy Brothers set-up - one of those travelling ones ( a friend gave it to me as a gift).

And whilst up the Gold Coast two years ago, had another lot done with my then step-baby (she was 18), and it was heaps of fun. Took an hour to do hair and make-up, and we got a glass of champers and everything. I looked amazing - went out that night, but woke up the next day looking the same as I started again! (And feeling worse )

Made one mistake - had to fill out a form that outlined what I hoped to achieve thru the shoot - and I said "I wanna be a porn star." So, the photographer ran with that, verbally, and I must admit, I was totally embarrassed (on the inside - nothing he said!)

But it was a hoot, and the shots were great (gotta love those computers that can ruyb out wrinkles....)

Expensive, but worth it. About $90 for a 10 x 8 from memory..but I'll be able to show my grand-kids how hot Nana thought she was at 39!

I went to a glamour photography place once, wanting to get a nice set of photos taken. They said something along the lines of "you can't polish a turd" and kicked me out. It was a tragic experience.

WG....I believe you can polish a turd, but you'll only get a dull lustre, not the bright sparkly job....

I'm not a fan of seeing glamour shots on profiles...

WG thats just tragic! That just shows up the studio as being totally unprofessional if nothing else. Go on, you made that up?

I went to one of the travelling dodgey variety that came to our town and was pretty disappointed. (Maybe had the same problem as WG )

They did a sort of stage makeup and hair tizz designed to look good ONLY from the front while I sat up on a stool in the local hall and various locals called through to book appointments or whatever. That was kind of embarassing on its own and then the chick wrapped me tightly around in a piece of black velveteen pinned at the back and let me choose a coloured gauze wrap to wear over the elbows. I still had my jeans on underneath and felt anything BUT glamourous. The bling they put round my neck was unlike me and then I had to sit up and smile for the camera. It took every ounce of drama experience I could call upon to imagine that I looked gorgeous and I hated the picture that I ended up with after I'd paid all the money out. Mostly because I could never look at it without remembering the way I felt on the day.

Anyway I gifted it to my Dad and HE likes it so it wasn't a total loss.

Never again! You cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

I've sometimes thought about getting them done too ronda but then I don't know what I would do with them if I had them. It would be awful if I had one up in my house and everyone came in and asked oh, who's that? Because I looked so much better or something! I always remember when I met one of my friends years ago, it was the first time that I had ever gone over to her house and in the hallway there was this really nice photo of a woman with gorgeous hair and makeup etc, really nice skin. I asked her who it was and she said "That's me!! Don't tell me I look so bad in real life that you don't even recognise me??"

I think there's some women on some of the dating sites that use the glamour photos for their profiles because I have seen some really stunning looking model like women and I wonder why they would need to be on an internet site. I've met a few guys that have told me that when they have met some women, they are nothing like their glamour photos and they have been disappointed and that now they are sceptical of those that use them on their profile page.

yeah there's that I guess, if I ever did do it I would still want to look like me, not that there's any chance of making me look like a supermodel not in this lifetime anyway, but I suppose it's just something to look back and reminisce when we get old and wrinkly and make ourselves even more depressed lol

^^^ Ditto Liveandlovewell. If it's not me...it's not me and I'd hate someone to think I'd misrepresented myself even on my hallway wall!

Yes me too, I take a bad photo as I am quite self conscious and hate posing for them. The best ones are when I'm with my son or my family but you can't really put them on a dating site!
I'm too scared even to have my photo on display to the whole wide web because I'm still a bit wary of the internet dating thing and potential stalkers etc. Also I would hate anyone that I know or work with to recognise me!
I have got photos but I attach them with an email to people that I choose to honour and reveal myself to.

I went to get some done but the lady with the camera shuddered and said "just let me adjust my lens here". She then got a patching trowel shoved it in a huge jar of vasoline and smeared it on the lens. It really wasn't good. She said it looked like I had been dragged bum first though a burning hedge!!

mafi, you asked:

whats the idea behind glamour shots? look better than you really are?/

It is quite nice to know what you would look like every day if you were an actress, or a supermodel, with a team of specialists running around after you making sure you don't have a hair out of place!

When I brought mine home, my mate said it was a great shot of my sister!

I had fun....and it just goes to show what a great make-up artist can do.

I think the last glamour shot i had done was probably the one just after i was born hmmm .shesh since then havent been considered a glamour...lol...And yes to the person that commented on them in profiles etc i think some can be a bit suss, prefer the natural look as opposed to the made up and soft lense look..And soulmate...not meaning to be rude but i dont think you fit into the paper bag and have a few beers to look good category...lol...On the personal ego side i think that they are a good thing for anyone that wants to feel good about themselves and lets admit it we all like our egos stroked occassionally ( and before the deviates jump in yes i was meaning egos...lmaooo).

oooh Bewitched..this is something I must admit Ive always wanted to do...when I work at the funeral home I get around in a suit all day (skirt and jacket) ...with pearls and done up collars and my hair in a bun..when I can tame it etc which is nice and when Im in the mortuary, its in scrubs, I look daggy as.....Ive always wanted to look glamorous, just for once, with a bit of vixen thrown in because I do get around in a suit and pearls and crisp white collar up shirts all day......just for once Id love to let loose.

When I was at uni, the first time like a hundred years ago a friend of mine , a Art student, took a black/white photo of me straddled over a chair, naked ..with my back to the camera.. and with my (then) very very long hair hanging down my back and my head slightly turned to the rite with a black hat on ( I had the bod then, like I said a hundred years ago) .....its very "Parisian" and "artistic" !! and I love it..it doesnt look like me ( lots of airbrushing) and my legs look longer than like Phar Laps ...this was how this friend of mine saw me ( he went on to be a reasonably well known photographer) ...I proudly display it in my hallway..so not too obvious and when someone does spot it, I do get a kick out of saying its me......but yeah would love to have some glamour shots done...just be Angelina for a day.........I wish...but the day would not be long enough to tame my wild curly hair !!! oh to have strait hair...!!!

If your counting , 1st post for the day !!!
