| Late economic stimulus rebate
Posted: 5/12/2008 3:41:40 PM | According to IRS.gov, I was supposed to get my "economic stimulus rebate" by last Friday at the latest. My social ends in 70 and I get direct deposit. So why is it not here?
Is anyone else's rebate running late? Don't you just wish that we could fine them more money for being late like they do if we are late paying them?

If you have someone who does your taxes for you, they could have asked for an extension and then filed. That's what happened in my case. The woman ran out of time and asked for an extension and I'm still waiting on my tax refund and stimulus. But if you filed taxes yourself and filed them on time, then I have no idea why you don't have it already. My sister and brother-in-law have theirs already. | |

Posted: 5/13/2008 8:18:14 AM | Actually, the site says it was to be transmitted no later than May 9. Maybe there's some hold-up at your bank's end.
Have you changed banks since you filed your tax return? Did you get a refund, and was it direct deposited to the same bank/account? We have a local bank who changed ownership during tax season....I wonder if that is affecting anyone.
I'm still waiting....I'm in the last direct deposit group (figures). | |

Posted: 5/13/2008 3:59:01 PM | I didn't file late or get anyone to file for me. I filed my taxes myself electronically on the 9th of Feb.
I also have not changed banks in the past 8 years.
I got to work on Monday, and of the 5 people I knew who were also supposed to get their rebates the same day, only 2 of them had gotten theirs.
One of the guys who got theirs didn't file his taxes until 2 days before the deadline.
Like I said before. I guess it's unfair to expect GWB to straiten things out this late in the game if he hasn't tried in the past 7 years. | |

Who cares... it was 397 dollars. Even though I can always use a few more bucks, it certainly wasn't worth the 150 billion dollar loan from China... this kind of go nowhere strategy/thinking is why we are failing as it is...

Posted: 5/16/2008 3:51:14 AM | The IRS's web site says that if you filed after April 15th, their may be a delay in getting your check. But it does not give a specific time.
Then again, it's not like they are fallowing closely to their time lines anyway. That's exactly why I started this thread. They are late with my (as well as many other people's) payments. And I filed early. | |

I noticed a few things tonite in 'FAQ's'that I don't remember seeing before on the site.
If filing or preparation fees were deducted from your 2007 refund or if you obtained a refund anticipation loan or other bank product related to your regular tax refund, you will receive a check instead of a direct deposit
Phase Out: Your payment is reduced, or you may receive no payment at all based on your income level. The stimulus payment begins to phase out for individuals with adjusted gross incomes (AGI) over $75,000
Also,any taxes, debts, IE:back child support, etc. owed are deducted.
If I'm interperting this correctly, than I for one will be getting it later than I thought as I had the'filing fees' taken out of my return as I did my taxes online darn! | |

Perhaps, if our economy was going gangbusters and things were all candy land, the nations economic base could shoulder a burden like that. But, with things the way they are, it would have been disastrous. They are one of the largest investment banks in the world. Just think what would of happened if they had gone under, instead of being absorbed or whatever... they hold a lot of loans... home loans... think about that.... It would have been chaos.
Some people don't realize how much the financial institutions of the world control and dominate our lives... if they fall... we fall.
Our dollar is already a joke.
A key and currently wholly necessary commodity, oil, is choking our economy to the point of crib death. Just think what it's going to be like in 5 years... If prices on fuel continue to spike and never flag... we base our entire modern life on ****ing oil. Every modern convenience... the very basis for transportation, which in of itself, is the basis for everything is dependent on that substance.
You want to know what war is? You think you hate war now? You just wait. If we can't figure something out, resources are going to become something you either have and thrive... or you don't and thus you can't survive.
Almost all(there are armies out there that still throw spears) the worlds various military require some kind of oil based fuel to run... how long do you think it's going to take, before the levies break and we see the kind of global fighting not seen for 2 generations?
The truth of the matter is... we borrowed that money from a country that is our keeper... and our keeper is hungry.
Even if we do have a strategic oil reserve, it's not for you and me... it's for the military... for the special few. | |
