Did you ever want to make something and discover you don't have the right tools and end up improvising?

For example, someone on the forums mentioned making waffles in a sandwich maker, now I think that tood a bit of creative thinking.

Pancakes in the sandwich maker, works great! Funny looking but in 3 mins their perfect and they never burn. Even my ex wife could do it.

Now I should tell you how I made my own coffee maker out of a pie tin! I really did and it works great.

Cool! Please do.

I once didn't have any ramekins to make volcano cakes so I used a muffin tin.... guess that one was kind of obvious though... LOL

Also made margaritas in a food processor when my blender was on the fritz.

Oh and here is another one SLY just passed on to me:

"K take a cake tin, like the cheap ones. Form it in to a dis/cone shape, bend all the tin around the top and poke holes in the bottom. Put in your filter and coffee and walla! You have a patten pending coffee maker. "

Can't think of specifics right now...but I am the person who my family, friends, associates call when they need a problem solved....like a mechanical problem...lol

seems like they know how I tend to make up tools to fix things... do a bit of a McGyver thing and use what I have at hand.

I find that the big twist ties for garbage bags to have many uses.

Crazy Glue:
I asked recently if anyone had, had to stitch up anyone on a camping trip with a needle and dental floss...and I found out that the best solution out in the woods would be to use Crazy Glue...cos the edges of the cut...just come together much better and cleaner than a stitch by a rookie especially. So Crazy Glue in the First Aid kit until you can get medical help....it burns like hell but it works...and it is waterproof.

Deodorant:
I am allergic to mosquitos and blackflies, sandfleas...and I like to camp and I have lived in the tropics... I do not pack AfterBite or any of those messy leaky anti-itch products.
I pack unscented deodorant instead. It contains Zinc and the smell does not attract bugs...it stops the itch fast too!
Mitchum unscented has the highest percentage of Zinc as far as I know.
It is also sold in the small travel size...and if you forget your deodorant...well it has dual purposes.

Duct tape is great as a bandaid.

Popsicle sticks/Electrical Tape:
I splinted my middle finger a few weeks ago at work...I fractured a bone.... I used two popsicle sticks and some electrical tape. It held me over for a good 4 hours until I could tend to it at home later.

My kid used two of my favourite Henkel kitchen knives to open paint cans and bent the tips of them

When I was a kid, I used an old turntable to try to make a rock tumbler... used a tin can for the drum and sand from the sandbox for polish... It didn't work and jesus was it noisy my dad made me shut it off eventually.

Used a car radio to silence kids squabbling in the back seat... just kept turning up the volume til nobody could hear anything else. They stopped trying to make their own noise when they had to shout to be heard.

I wish the cranking up the music to silence the kids would work....but my Mommyvan has duel controls for the stereo and the kids just shut off the music from the backseat. GRRRRRRRRRRR Kids!

I found duct tape in pink, puple, silver, blue and green at the craft store...got to luv that eh?

I'm a camper and have had to improvise MANY times! Especially with duct tape - it is my favorite tool/repair kit/fastener/holder/mender/first aid tape and have even rolled it up into 'snakes' to use it for rope! lol

I have made a coffee maker out of just about anything you can imagine....gotta have that bailey's and coffee every morn ya know!

Making grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron. Toast with a blow torch. Astroglide from my gay sex orgy last night on a couple slices of bread.
