Chewing you Food..

This might seem like a disguesting topic to some but I think it might be a valuable topic will maybe to some I have a problem I hardly ever chew my grub and I'm having problems with my throat mostly acid reflux but there is mucus there too and I'm constantly clearing my throat been doing it for years it's a real bummer a bad habit most of the time I'm unaware of because I don't think about it..I'm too busy being self obsessed. I wonder if anyone else has this or if they know of ways to change the habit of not chewing, (Here comes the sex jokes), it's actually more like having chronic broncitis..I have a doctor and get treated for acid reflux and asthma which I've had all my life the asthma but I still have the hacks..It's worse now because I have no teeth and am hungarly awaiting my dentures..Any advice I may not do it but I'll think about it...Anything natural like teas..?

Byrd, you sound unhealthy, diseased, by your own description here and in other threads. But it's never too late to turn it around and improve your quality of life for the years you have left. Trust the body and treat it right, it's always ready to respond, and fairly quickly. Be your own Comeback Kid!

Phlegm is a problem for lots of people. That's why BigPharma produces anti-plegm drugs.

F*ck BigPharma. You can unF*ck yourself, consulting with Dr. Internet.

Google "phlegm cure" and similar, start reading.

In ayurvedic medicine (much more subtle than Western medicine), phlegm is not a problem, but a symptom of chronic bronchitis (our old, reliable friend inflammation) and other systemic problems.

http://www.ayurvedic-medicines.org/diseases/bronchitis.htm
... and many other sites.

In short, there are foods to avoid, and foods to consume, with perhaps some immediate natural supplements. Don't expect the cause of phlegm to be fixed by tomorrow morning.

One trick is a few cups of quality green tea upon awakening, healthful in itself, whose phyto-chemicals are made more bio-available with ... LEMON JUICE. Hot lemon juice is a great, immediate phlegm cutter (a palliative, not a cure). The C in lemon juice probably won't survive the hot water, but citric acid actually metabolizes to alkaline ash (as does acetic acid/vinegar). The more alkaline you are, the better.

If you are unable to chew your food because of not having teeth, you might consider putting it into a blender to macerate it. That is basically the job teeth provide. However, that isn't the only thing that happens during the chewing process. The saliva that is mixed with food as it is chewed is full of enzymes. That is the stuff that helps break food down. The way it is supposed to work is this. We chew our food & it gets enzymes mixed into it. We swallow into the stomach where stomach acids break the food down even more, into what is called chime. The chime enters the small intestines & is broken down some more as the enzymes & acids continue to work on it. In the large intestines, nutrients are extracted into the bloodstream where they get dispersed throughout the body as needed. What is leftover comes out in bowel movements.

If food is not properly broken down by chewing properly, large chunks of food pass into the stomach and are not able to be processed properly. The body attempts to deal with that by making more acids. It's not enough to deal with it so the food starts to rot inside the body. Rotten food will make anyone sick.

Being overweight can cause the valve at the top of the stomach to stop being able to completely close if the stomach becomes distended as a result of overeating, rotten foods producing stomach gas, etc. The little flap can no longer cover the stretched out hole that makes that valve work. Stomach acids then have nothing to keep them from rising up your throat. Over a long time it can cause scar tissue to form which can develop spasms in it. That then is called Barret's Disease & can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack. Very painful I hear. My Mom had that. A hiatel hernia can cause all that too, as in the case of my Mom.

As far as the mucus goes, some foods produce lots of it, such as dairy products & red meat. Finding out what foods trigger that response in your body will help a lot.

Bottom Line: Dealing with all of this effectively would call for a lifestyle change in terms of your eating habits. The deal is a matter of how much your health & well being means to you & whether you are willing to make those changes & have the disipline to adhere to them. People can give advice all day long to people who ask for it, but many are actually unwilling to do what is needed. They have told me that it's just too much trouble. To that I just say, OK. Afterall, it isn't my life to live.

I wish you well.

anti-mucus, anti-catarrh, anti-phlegm:

http://www.elementalresearchllc.com/sodium.html

"Original" Alka-seltzer seems to always come with 325 mg aspirin, which I don't want or need.

I found a Spanish-labelled product, "Picot", right next to Bayer Alka-Seltzer :

Drug Facts on the back of the box for the gringos:

Sodium bicarbonate 2.450 g
Citric acid 1.9845 g
Tartaric acid 0.2165

If anyone ever thought citric and acetic acid (citric fruits, vinegar) were acidifying, see above. :)

... made by Bristol Meyers Squibb. I found 50-pack. This is the 12-pack. :

Taking these chemicals long-term, I dunno. An alkalizing diet is much better and more sustainable.
