Posted: 5/13/2008 3:31:25 PM | | i seen one thread about being able to live with or without your t.v. a while back and i read some of the responses in the thread. of all the respones i read to it, i failed to notice the mention of one more modern day convience, the microwave oven. so my question to all of the fine folks out there in plenty of fish land, could you live without your microwave oven?

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 3:42:07 PM | | Seeing as people did just fine before electricity. I'd say yes. Sure it would change how long somethings take to cook. Personally there's allot of foods I don't microwave. Even if some chemist manage to make one thats microwavable. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 3:44:12 PM | | I absolutely can live without my microwave. Over a year ago my microwave died and I decided I would wait on buying a new one, almost challenging myself to see if I could live without it. Here we are over a year later and I have not bought one yet and I am getting by just fine. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 4:36:13 PM | Sure I can!
I went microwave-less for almost a year, single mom of young child and the budget just kept having more important things to purchase. I'd just have to wait longer for my tea water to boil and remember to store leftovers in oven-friendly things rather than microwave-friendly ones. It only got replaced because a family member bought me one for Christmas that year.

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 4:55:45 PM | | I gave up my microwave over a year ago. I found several internet articles that microwaves have actually been legally banned in numerous countries due to health concerns. I wont go into details, but google 'dangers of microwaves' and do your own research and make your own decision. I choose not to take any chances. I wont even eat at a restaurant that might use a microwave. I avoid them like the plague. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 5:08:14 PM | at home yes, at work not so much. I often work 10 hour days, and bring my own lunch. Sometimes, it needs to be reheated. Soup only stays warm in a thermos for so long, However, I do have actual dishes to use in the micro, I don't nuke things in tupperware.
As for actual "cooking", who needs a micro? Generally if the only preparation required is "remove packaging, place in micro" I won't eat it. I'd rather actually eat real food.

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 5:10:06 PM | | No sweat I could live without it. But I couldn't live without my trusty pizza oven that sits ontop of it. No need to wait for it to heat up. Brilliant! ! ! | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 5:49:30 PM | It's amazing how many friends you make when the power is off several days and you actually know how to cook elegant meals with just a MSR Windpro backpacking stove. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 6:52:42 PM | Yep. Easy. Haven't had one at home in maybe 3 years. They are handy at work as stated above for warming up lunch leftovers. I don't really use them to actually "cook" anything. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 10:34:28 PM | Ah, it's refreshing to see so many people not microwave-dependent. I do have one, but only use it when I don't plan ahead enough to thaw something frozen the natural way. I love it in the winter when I can cook a meal on the woodstove. Even better when the meal is all or mostly harvested from the homestead, like venison and ramps - now that's living! If you don't know what ramps are, google them - an appalachian delicacy!

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/13/2008 11:41:20 PM | Absolutly. I'd much rather do the cooking on a stove the old fashioned way, just like they did back in the olden days. I love to cook and a home cooked meal is better than a nuked one anyday. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 2:56:57 AM | I'm a single man, living alone, so I don't cook. Any food which doesn't fit in the microwave, I don't eat.
It's amazing how durable microwave ovens are. Mine has lasted me over 20 years and it's still going. To give you an idea of how old it is, it doesn't have a turn table. I have to turn the food by hand every couple of minutes. I'd get a new one but this one just won't wear out.

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 9:43:26 AM | I agree with what springazure said, I got rid of my microwave years ago and will never get another one. Go to this link below to find out why http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 10:37:13 AM | | Yes and No. I think I absolutely COULD live with out it but don't WANT to, at least until the kids are bigger. It is nice that they can make their own oatmeal and soup without touching the stove giving them some independence. Also it is handy for warming the baby's food. That said if it broke I would likely not replace it. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 10:58:07 AM | i could, as long as my crockpot, pizza turntable and skillet/grill arent taken away either.....as to the article on hazards, there was no mention on the psycoligical effects on the tests subjects when remoed from all outside risks like alchohol, tobacco and sex there would be significant chnges in blood patterns due to addictions and removal from them.
now there is a confection and convection oven one uses radiant heat the other works like a large toaster (metal can be used in it) the confection is as safe as a stove oven and takes as long
