12:00 POF Lunch at The Dead Parrot Pub, Followed by the 4:15 The Naked (adult oriented) Limey Birds Show
Enter the gates and follow the main path up the hill and back down almost as far as the path will take you (It's really not that far). At the bottom of the hill, to your right, you will see a pirate ship stage and to your left a stone wall, a food vendor and then the Dead Parrot Pub. We will be meeting and eating in this area before heading back down the hill to the Joan of Arc stage for the 3:15 or 4:15 Limey Bird show (which ever is the Naked show).
The Faire gates open at 10:00 so if you get there in the morning you should have time to meander the path, listen and watch various shows and performers before getting to The Dead Parrot for lunch.

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/14/2008 4:30:06 PM | Ok, Miss Shellie! I wanna know how I gots signed up!? LOL
I would love to make this one...am going to do everything I can to try...heck! We have been talking about it for months now!
Sounds like a blast! Do ya' know if there is any camping or cheap hotel accommodations for those who would like to attend both days, and not have to drive the distance so many times. (With gas prices the way they are, would prolly be cheaper to get a campsite or motel!)
Does the Dead Parrot Pub have a website, by chance? Is that an actual business, or a temporary place on the fair grounds? (I lookeded, I did!)
Questions, questions, I know! For those of us who are not Rennies like some of us...**giggle**...will we be outta place in **gasp** regular street garb!?

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/14/2008 7:00:47 PM | ^^Shelle-Belle can help you on this! She has all sorts of ideas and has been to every past fair, so knows what they wear. I think my fave is "young wench" or "dirty wh0re!" LMAO I would think a Halloween costume from Shrek or something Pirates of the Carribean would work, too?
And Shell...don't forget...you still gotta make holders for our stainless steel mugs!
|
| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/14/2008 9:58:16 PM | No, no, no, no, they are PEWTER! Stainless steel... indeed *hrumph* The holders... argh! I didn't even have those on the To Do list!
For ideas try searching the image section of Google for: garb wench renaissance faire or festival
Or you can try the photo gallery from the St Louis Faire site: http://www.renstl.org/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=15
A simple peasant blouse and skirt will do or if you happen to have the odd bodice laying around. *giggle* Guys, sorry you're on your own! lol
I would highly recomend avoiding any polyester halloween type costumes. If it gets warm you're going to get uncomfortable. Polyester, unlike cotton, does not breath and it can make for a miserable time.

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/15/2008 8:38:06 AM | LMAO...well, it can be pewter for the faire...but as is half of my kitchen, they are REALLY stainless steel!
Did not think of the poly thing...most costumes are so light and chintzy, almost like paper, that you typically wear something UNDER them.
So, you mean you are not volunteering to make everyone some garb???? LMAO

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/15/2008 9:13:05 AM | Wednesdays (today's) journal had a great insert on the faire.
I did search ALL OVER for wench costumes..... any stores locally to purchase a nice corset part of the costume? I cannot afford to spend $225 for a fun day at the faire!
Any local shops in the greater STL area to purchase patterns that are historically correct, or to purchase parts of the outfits? (I used to do civil war reinacting... sewed all my own dresses)
and Kat, even the king and queen didnt have stainless! maybe gold. LOL
need real pewter.... shelli, any local stores for that stuff, and for pirate gear (belts, leather, etc.?) online search did not reveal any local stores

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/16/2008 6:54:29 AM | I don't know of any place local that you can buy stuff off the shelf (except for fair) but if you sew theres a few places you can go to make your own pattern. You can also check ebay for some of the most popular patterns. I'm JUST starting to purchase some of those or I'd offer them up for use.
Custom Corset Generator http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html
What to do once you've generated a corset http://www.elizabethancostume.net/kirtlepat/
Make your own dummy if you don't have a dress form (it's the duct tape pattern, Kat!) You can either lay this down and use it as a pattern as the site suggests or you can make a body double by using PVC pipe (make a big T - the cross piece being your shoulders) and an xmas tree stand. Place your new duct tape buddy over the PVC stand and stuff to hold the shape. I just had one made when getting fitted for a custom bodice and it was freaky to see myself in 3D. You WILL need a second person for this! http://www.reddawn.net/costume/bodice2.htm
If you scroll down to the bottom of the either of the first 2 links and hit HOME there's really a lot of interesting stuff on the site.
For cloth it's been recomended to me (by people who really know what they're doing) to use cotton canvas or other sturdy cotton material. and for boning along the lacing holes (to keep it from looking funky, folding, or poping out) or anywhere else you'll need it to keep shape or need support (if you're going braless) use thick large zip or duct ties you find at the hardware store. I think they can be found in the plumbing section.
For accessories I highly recomend Goodwill! Other than paying a fortune on ebay for pewter I check the local 2nd hand shops and hit yardsales and rummage sales. I DO have a few extra pewter goblets and horn mugs laying around so if ya need em just let me know!
Did I answer everything? lol
Edit: if a bodice seem like just to much work (and it IS a ton of work) you can make a simple cincher. If you look on ebay you can see examples of these. I highly recomend the zip tie boning to keep it from folding over itself tho.

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/18/2008 7:43:56 PM | | I'll be updating the post in the the next day or so... The great steak sandwich vendor isn't there this year (I swear I almost cried on the spot when I found out - I waited a whole friggin year for that sandwich) but the new vendor has some pretty good stuff and the Limey Bird "Naked" show this year is at 4 something (new stage = new time I guess). I have to get the schedule out and check for the exact time. | |

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/19/2008 4:33:29 PM | The gal that sits next to me at work, she and her family went to the faire yesterday. She said they have gone for the past 4 years and they ALL love it. She took the grand babies this year who are like 3 and 4.. they also had a blast.
I am going to TRY to make this event. Not sure but I am going to try.
The way she talked it sounds like a lot of fun. I guess I have lived a sheltered life because before this thread, I have never heard of it. Wowza.
Oh, yesterday there was a horse that got spooked... she said it threw the rider and knocked him out cold.. and broke his shoulder. She said that was not fun and it did freak her out a bit.. crazy horse. Hopefully he is doing fine.

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/19/2008 4:48:02 PM | Hey Shell...unless it is here and my blind arse missed it...tell us the FULL SCHEDULE of the fair. I was under the impression that it was a couple days in a row, thus the ability to get a multi day pass. But from what Susie posted, it is already happening?
I am lost... | |

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/19/2008 5:56:37 PM | Hey Kat... I checked out their web site... it goes thru June 8th... Sat & Sundays, including Memorial Day.
I knew it was going into June but wasn't sure of the exact date...so there you go.. June 8th.
This is suppose to be a blast.. I am hoping I can make it.
Also, I just read on the guess book that Sir Malcom who had the accident with the spooked horse, suffered a broken arm and is doing quite well. Glad to hear of this.

| Lunch & Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1st Posted: 5/19/2008 7:43:03 PM | What Susie said! The Ren Faire usually runs 4 weekend and Pirate Festival (in the fall) only 2, but I'm sure that will change as it becomes more popular.
I can't tell from the schedule what time the Naked show is so I'lll check with the group when I get there.
Oh, I almost forgot! They added a small pub not far from the front gate and almost directly across from the stage where the Limey Birds will perform. Now you don't have to trek up the hill for a drink! lol (This is possibly the reason it took me nearly 3 hours to get to the top o' the hill Sunday. I didn't have that "gotta get to the pub" frame o' mind!)

| Lunch and Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1 2008 Posted: 5/20/2008 5:42:36 PM | Well it IS a festival...so I cannot see why guys would NOT attend...not like it is the upcoming Sex & The City Movie Premiere Event which is coming up...a definite chick thing! *hint hint*
Yes, that was a shameless plug for the other event...but feel free to shamelessly plug this one, there, as well! :O)

| Lunch and Show at the Greater St. Louis Ren Faire Sunday June 1 2008 Posted: 5/20/2008 7:26:02 PM | | If it matters any, I spent a couple hours and emailed men living in the st charles area a general invite to the faire if they were 35-54. I also made a fake mens profile and started inviting the women in the same categories. Trying to get the attendence up! | |
