Im just wondering are most people that are on dating websites on lots of various ones and what other ones are good?. When I held a meet, people were chatting about other sites and other people and tehy seemed very surprised that i was only on POF. Am I missing something and how would you rate POF compared to others.....

most other websites charge so i avoided them as they generally attract the wrong type of person,i just wanted a game of pool or two with a funny bird and a pint.

I really think that in general, if you're serious about wanting to meet someone educated and with a decent standard of living etc, you're better off going to an expensive pay site.

Seperate the wheat from the chaff kind of thing.

Though of course I'm sure some people get lucky on sites like this, but I'd really only use this for the forums.

Had a squidge at some of the others but they just looked like a rip-off. Then I found POF. If it was just a dating site I probably wouldn't have hung around but the meets and the forums mean that it is a social site, I've met some lovely people and made some great friends. The rest of them don't seem to offer that.

Not dating anymore, but the only other one I think was potentially any good was Mysinglefriend.

Match is wank, and so are most of the other ones.

Sadly most dating sites seem to be a haven for some of the loopiest fookers you'll ever get to meet, but at least there's the nice barrier of the internet :)

I've joined match and agree its a waste of money - not because of the ppl on the site, but because the site is rubbish. There's no chat forum, no facility to IM, the match search is haphazard and i've noticed on profiles that a lot of ppl have also given up because they haven't been online in weeks!
If you do contact someone you're practically committed to providing them with your MSN contact or a phone number if you want to chat beyond emails!

PoF does seem to have its share of timewasters and I suppose if you pay good money, that's less likely to be found.

I agree with Graham - POF is the best. Dating Direct and Meetic are exactly the same so beware and I agree with the previous comments about Match. If you are looking for a site where there are more professional people try Loveandfriends. This site also shows your photo in better quality. All the girls I have been out with from other sites have looked a lot better than their photo. Oh dear, I sound rather sad knowing all this.

I am currently on Match but think it is a rip-off. £45 for 3 months or something. There are far more people on POF although far more nutters as well which is kind of entertaining. I think generally there are alot of timewasters inhabiting all dating sites...

Hiya Blondy
Well...... I've been on Udate, Match, Meetic, Loopylove, Girlsdateforfree, Friends Reunited dating, FreeDating, Lookitsme, Faceparty........... hmmmmmmm probably a few others as well, have met some nice people on all of them and also some cretins.

Given up looking for 'the one' just happy to make friends and chat , if it goes further all well and good if not so be it. Primary reason for being on here now is the forums, need to get the old grey matter working

well I've had about 5 dates from match. 1 from POF so you're mileage may vary.

dating direct generated nothing at all, neither did mysinglefriend. wierdos are on all sites really. I think the internet allows some people to be far too picky and not give things a chance.

I don't believe there is any mileage to be gained from using numerous Dating or Social Networking websites.

Especially when most charge for the priviledge to do so !

I found datingdirect.com to be good at one time but more recently I was on for a year and it was useless.

I am now on POF and Freedating but just use them for chatting really.
The number of people on these local to me is very low.

I took a look at pigorpoke today, there's only about 5 chaps of any age group living in the whole of Wales, but the graphics and sound effects are great!

I haven't got any friends to big me up on my profile, I'd have to pretend to be my friend and big myself up...and that would be too sad for words lol

I used Dating Direct before and that was pretty good if you simply wanted to date to find a long term partner. I actually met my ex on there and we were together just over two years.

I also joined Looplove about 4 years ago, it seems to have been 'jazzed up' now, but, looking back, it was a bit strange back then. Got to know plenty of ladies on there though

I look at various sites now and the dating scene does appear to have become very 'niche'.....ads on POF and elsewhere seem to give you a bewildering choice of date opportunities......millionaires, norty married women, sultry Arab ladies, members of the agricultural community, and hairy bikers, to name but a few

POF itself is altogether different. I think there's downsides to the site - it's free so it might not promote the same urgency to find a partner, and I do genuinely feel that quite a few people on here date with a very 'negative' outlook - but.....it does seem to be pretty unique among dating sites for several reasons. On a personal level, the meets gave me a new lease of life when I came out of a relationship and knew no-one, and I still love every one that I go to. It's been a fantastic way to make new friends, and, that does include friends of the same sex as well as the opposite sex....perhaps something that's still unusual amongst dating sites.

Oh yeah, and there's a few good sorts hang around these forums every now and then

I have found that at least with the paid sites you dont get so many time wasters and complete weirdo's. I think for sites like this for every ten people on here there are only about 3 or 4 genuine or maybe less.

I was conned into forking out for Loopy Love for 3 months, but I got 2 dates out of it, and met up with a neighbour.

I am happier with PoF though, I now have a social life outside work. I have a good mate and some bird messaged me and we ended up dateing for the last 18 months, a result I think.

As for the folks who think the waster ratio is high because it's a free site, go to meets, the wierdos stay behind their monitors wether they have paid or not, it's not done to get your willy out at a meet or anywhere else in public.

There is no need to pay, and paying doesn't make it more betterer. I've been to several Nexus Bar nights, dire or what? But you have to support a mate trying to get a meet going despite the odds. Nexus is far from cheap, but me and Paul gate crashed, it was still dire.

I have joined another free site miblackbook.com its a newer dating community but I think it can go far. The on site instant messenger service "my presence" is the best I've seen with options for cam/audio chat. Can easily invite friends from facebook/myspace through the site as well adding more ppl. I get a few bites, no nutters yet tho

As this ones free, theres no rush as you can log on when you want and take your time, with paying ones you tend to rush things, make too many misjudged contacts just so you get your moneys worth ... etc...

discovered a place the other day, mutualfriends.com, not sure if anyone else has experience of it. but it doesn't seem too bad, if not a little low on members. but i think it's quite a new site.

a lot like this one. but more colourful, looks a fun interface :)

I love POF but as a previous poster intimated this is a free website so i also have a profile at http://www.friendsandmore.co.uk which is a paid website. I have made some great friends on here and i have made some great friends on there BUT i do have to say that when someone is charged a monthly membership fee (no matter how large or small) it does sift out who is/isnt genuine.

Again i love POF and everything it does but after extensive research :) can confirm that http://www.friendsandmore.co.uk is the closest paid for POF experience that i can find - genuine people and not everyone looking for bedroom olympics!!!

Hope this helps : Dale x
