| How many one-to-one internet dates have you been on?

For me its about 2 out of 8 (over 10 years)
A 25% return is not bad I guess??? 
Although the other 75% ranged from the tedious to the horrific. Only the first one resulted in any sort of relationship. I am now thinking the first time I just got lucky and internet dating is actually a waste of time. Anyone agree? | |

1 resulted in becoming my best mate!!
Most were ok...couple of boring ones.
3 resulted in a short relationships...only 2 of which were worth it.
Last one was very short and a complete waste of time!!!! | |

They have all been nice blokes, if not right for me (or me for them).
I think the quickest was about 2 hours after first contact. I never normally accept IM from people I don't know, but I got to have a quick peak at his profile (seemed suitable)...we chatted, were getting on well, and both hungry. So I suggested that as we were only 20 minutes apart, we should have dinner together.
There was no spark, but it was an interesting evening, fab dinner...sometimes you just take a chance.
I don't think I have ever met any real nutters, nor have I had bad experience, except maybe one guy listening to gossip rather than asking me...sad but there is no point in worrying over what you cannot change. | |

Posted: 5/15/2008 8:35:08 AM | I've been on about 5 in about 5 years since I started internet dating and all have gone on to say after the first meeting that it is just friends. I have met more people recently by organising and attending meets one-to-one dates just don't work.
The disappointing part for me is that all the lasting friendships have been with people who live miles away it would be great if I could meet more local people but very few northeners reply to messages. | |

However why look at the sea when you have no intention of even getting your feet wet ? Its a dating site, come on guys it aint rocket science. 1 - look at pics and profiles 2- find one or two you like 3- make sure your profile is polite and witty, but above all honest 4- make contact 5- if they reply, chat a few times 6 -ask on a date 7- if they refuse then fine go back to step 1 and start again. best advice is , dont take it to heart if they dont reply or dont say yes to a date, and if you go on dates then dont expect to much from it, If there isnt a spark then at least you have made a new friend. Get with it. Date someone its fun. | |

Posted: 5/15/2008 3:16:13 PM | I've had 2 girlfriends who I originally met online, one of which was a good friend before we actually dated... and I've also had 1 girl that I dated a few times and then we decided to not see each other again, but that was fine...
I've also had two horror story internet related dates, one was quite recently and she turned out to be REALLY freaky, she was really quiet and hardly spoke, when she did she was totally uninteresting... I carried on with the date though to be polite, thinking maybe she was just nervous... anyways after a fair while I decided to tell her that I didnt think we were suited for eachother, and I did it in as polite a fashion as possible
Anyways, after that I decided to meet up with a friend and go to a club to have a few beers... only... she had been stalking me... and kept following me around inside the club, to the point where I end up legging it out of the club and into a cab back home...
To be honest, it was rather freaky and scary, but that's a one off and I've met enough good people online (as friends or potential dates) to know that its a rare occurrence! | |

Had about 12 dates via another site since beginning of yr. Some led to a few meetings and occasionally sex - we all have needs!

Posted: 5/16/2008 1:03:43 AM | I agree with ~hope....if you want a date, then ask!! I've had literally dozens of dates from POF, ranging from really nice to really awful...but if you don't try, how will you know??
I met my current partner on here, and we've been together 9 months. I met my LAST partner on a similar website and we were together for 4 years! It works! But you have to be proactive!!
Incidently, I still chat to/meet up with around 50% of the people I met on here; it's also a great way to make friends! | |
