whats it mean TO ME?
Posted: 5/15/2008 8:46:11 PM
If someone knows my IP address..

I had to allow someone to network with me to assist with some issues and now am wondering if this person has access to all my stuff although I had to accept the network request.

Can I block networking?

when the person got your ip address there would have been a little box on the screen that asks do you want to let ??? access or words to that effect

I have had remote connections enabled to help the guy I bought the PC off sort out some issues, when it was all finished, the facility got disabled

You can block networking, but as it will probably block the net as well, not much use

Of more use is a non standard and long password on the router, if using wireless, then needs encryption

Thanks, I suppose it's ok and something that requires approval.

Appreciate the response ;)

The IP address is what identifies you on the Internet from that computer at that particular time. Even if you rebooted, had the same IP and the guy wanted to reconnect to your computer, it would still ask you for permission first.

You could go into your services and turn off remote help and go into your firewall settings and delete the remote connection options.

Hope this helps.

Thanks sexy Michael..I don't think I need to go to all that trouble if permission is required.

I appreciate the advice.
