| Is it possible to login and not show that you are online?
Posted: 5/16/2008 6:52:55 AM | hiding your profile wont hide you from people you've added to your favs list / they've added you to yours
additionally, you can login to the forums and participate without having to login to your email account , mind you if you do, your posts will show the time/date on them. (a trick some of us do, isnt that so TOBS)

Posted: 5/22/2008 3:21:55 PM | | My friend joined this site a couple of months ago and tells me that now when she logs onto the internet, but is not logged on to the POF site, she is plagued by people from POF sending her IMs - I dont use IMs or any kind of instant messaging so dont understand how this works and how to stop it. I cant fanthom how people from POF know she is online when she isnt logged into POF and then start sending IMs! Can anyone explain this to me so I can tell my friend how she can stop this as its prevening her logging onto even check her regular emails as she finds it such a nuisance. Thanks in advance!! | |

My friend joined this site a couple of months ago and tells me that now when she logs onto the internet, but is not logged on to the POF site, she is plagued by people from POF sending her IMs
Not to be flip, but I don't think she has her facts straight. At worst case, once she properly logs off from POF (not just shutting down the browser), there may be at most, a 15 minute time lag, that shows the user still showing the IM indicator. If someone were to IM her during that lag, I'm not even sure that it will register a request to that user.
I have noted though, that once you've established a 2 way IM session - you can turn off your IM indicator through your Mail Settings, and still carry on the chat session with that person, and as well, you can even logoff from POF, and still carry on that already established session.
However once you close that chat session down and 15 minutes has elapsed that you are no longer registerd as online on POF - there's no way somone can IM using the POF Instant Messenger.
The key, is to logoff properly using the Log Out link at the top right corner - in the POF menu bar.
