| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/16/2008 4:26:41 PM | So when it comes to food, what's that guilty pleasure that you just can't do without? Is it chocolate, fat juicy burgers and cheese fries, lobster swimming in butter, cake - heavy on the frosting? Yes you know it isn't good for you, but what food make you feel so good that you can just never see giving it up?
I have a couple. One not so healthy and one politically incorrect.
My cholesterol is an issue but is currently under control. But great ribs/barbeque will always have a special place in (some would say around) my heart. I just can't turn it down, although I try to keep it under wraps and don't eat it as often as I used to. Honorable mentions to ham and good smoked bacon.
I've only had it a few times, but I fell in love with fois gras the first time I tried it, and time hasn't dulled the feeling. Yes I know how it's raised, so please keep the flames to yourself.

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/16/2008 7:57:21 PM | Oh my! I am a savory type! Would have to be my all time fave, lobster and steak. Nice juicy lobster, lots of melted hot butter, new york strip, done medium rare and a nice sparkling white wine! I never get the chance to do that often but when I do?OMG I think I have died and gone to heaven! | |

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/16/2008 9:40:52 PM | I have a few once-a-year treats, seasonal and holiday things, comfort foods from growing up... Don't care about cholesterol or that cardio- myopathy crap... moderation in all things.
Once a year I make a Honey Cake. In the same 9x13 pan my grandmother used to make honey cake, with the same recipe. Dark, rich, moist, filled with honey and coffee... Never lasts more than a week. only a few days in my son is home.
The other sweet indulgence is Coke. Yeah, I know, but this is the special coke- not the new "classic" coke made with corn syrup, but REAL honest made with SUGAR coke. Two six-packs once a year, and not the same time as the honey cake.
Already been through the "talk" with the food police and medics- I still refuse to give up on the rare use of schmaltz, and kasha varnishkes, and fried matzoh, and pastrami, and bagels & lox... all ethnically 'cleansing' foods. The not-so-secret indulgences that make life worth living, and what the heck, you're not going to live forever, so why not enjoy while you can.

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/16/2008 9:51:28 PM | | Okay...if we are talking "sweet" literally that is kinda tough for me because I don't eat much sweet stuff. However...I do love homemade chocolate chip cookies with my coke in the morning. Unlike Caron...I AM talking about the classic coke, in a can. | |

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/17/2008 9:15:32 AM | To have all my indulgences in one place you have to come to the Rats Restaurant in Hamilton, New Jersey. Not only will you have the best meal in the state, you will be able to go to the Grounds for Sculpture after wards. They have the best fois gras, wine list and everything that comes out of kitchen looks like it's too pretty to eat ( I force myself every time, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for really exceptional food) For dessert, chocolate and strawberry, creme brulee, tira mi su.....coffee

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/17/2008 12:02:35 PM | | I have a lovely recipe for French Silk Chocolate Pie that I make only during the holidays and it's quite simply the creamiest, silkiest chocolate pie ever! | |

| What are your favorite sweet indulgences? Posted: 5/17/2008 11:54:08 PM | Any of my pies .... don't know which one I like best ... maybe apple? or rhubarb ... My crust with anything on it I think. And a BR Jamocha Almond Fudge Single on a sugarcone.... I'd sure like to see the recipe for that French Silk Chocolate Pie. A restaurant in Wyoming used to have it, then changed to something else and that was the end of it. I wouldn't eat the replacement. And now I don't eat store bought pies at all. Someone else would have to order some and I'd look carefully at theirs before getting any.

Charon, is this recipe close to the Honey Cake one you have? I'd love to make this one or yours. It's close, but not quite it. I'll have to search my recipe cabinet, but the one I make has lots of double-strength brewed (perk) coffee, sliced almonds, MUCH less sugar, two or three different kinds of honey, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, but NO zest of anything. I think I may have posted it in an older honey thread, but am having a case of CRS this afternoon, and probably shouldn't be tying at all.
If you're looking for a good honey cake, check the traditional Jewish recipe sites for Rosh HaShonah treats.
