as you all know, sichuan of china, one of most populous provinces, was hit by a great earthquake, 7.9 richter scale, intensity of 11 (12 maximum). the epicenter was less than 100 miles away from the provincial capital, chengdu, a city of over 10 millions. so far 29,000 were killed. so many tragic stories, here is one of them that really touches my soul:

when rescuers found her, she was dead, killed by falling debris that used to be a par of her house. through the cracks of debris and rubbles, one could see the strange posture of her death: knelt down with her two legs, two arms held firmly on the ground, seemed to be doing some sort ancient kowtow ceremony. her body had been deformed slightly due the pressure from the debris. the whole scene really seemed to be weird even creepy. again, through the gashes of debris, rescuers tested her and confirmed she had diseased. in order to make sure no others still alive, rescuers started yelling, used crowbars knocking around, then carefully listened. for a while, no response. after a while, people started moving on to next collapsed house, suddenly, the team leader for this squad started running back and yelling "come back, come back here". he stretched himself out as far as he could and used one hand fumbled the underneath the diseased young woman. all a sudden, he yelled out with all of his strength:"there is a person, it is a child, still alive!".

with great effort, people carefully removed all of debris and rubbles around her. underneath her body, there was child, about three or four mouths old, wrapped in red blanket with yellow flowers. because of the body of his mother, he was intact and in perfect condition; he was in sound sleep, underneath his mother. the sleeping face of the little boy warmed up everyone's heart.

the team doctor started unwrapping the blanket to check the baby out, found a cell phone inside of the blanket. when the doctor took look at the cell phone, the screen showed a message:"dear baby, if you can survive/live out of this, you must remember, i love you as always". the doctor, who has been seeing so many deaths in such short time and numbed, burst into tears, passed the cell phone down to every member of the team. the sorrow and tears were on everyone's face.

mother, what a great word, in any languages.

and there is a mother who put her nipple into her 3 / 4 months old baby's mouth before she died. The team rescued the baby with mouth still sucking at the dead breast. When the rescuer pull baby's mouth away from the nipple, the baby cried in loud and people who saw that cried too.

Yet when many of us seen mother's love for her children the only true love in the world, it is unnecessary so, for of course we also seen very bad mothers who do very bad things to abuse their kids. I learn to be very careful who do I talk to when bringing up this mother true love thing, it can be hurtful to some.

I give my salute to the smart team leader who returned to the debris for his suspect; what a thoughtful and caring man.

One of my friends asks this questions:
1) what kind of cell phone will last 100 hours without running out battery?
2) What made the message on the cell phone screen stayed and be immediate invisible to everyone.
3) How was the phone so neatly tucked inside the blanket?
4) Were her hands both free with she key in all those words?
5) Baby was in perfect condition, slept but not fainted when found?

I read that news in Chinese scripts. You know Mandarin and Cantonese are different dialects so are the writings. In Sichun people use Mandarin, and the message on the cell phone is written in Cantonese style. I was wondering what it is about..........but it is still heart warming.

i didn't see anywhere stated "100 hours". but my cell phone with new battery, lasted over 100 hours. the trick to keep your battery life last long is: never make call when it is charging. it would kill your battery in few months.

What made the message on the cell phone screen stayed and be immediate invisible to everyone.

i guess the doctor took a loot at phone and tried to identify the kid. wouldn't you do that if you were on the scene? i would.

How was the phone so neatly tucked inside the blanket?

how hard to tuck a phone into a baby's cloths?

Were her hands both free with she key in all those words?

how old your friends are? i guess they don't do that much of sms. i don't know whether you have been back to china, but i can tell you this: it is a common scene to see chinese youngsters in bus, trains, walking, keying text messages with one thumb. they are so fast you might feel dizzy. china is number one market in the world, in terms of both wireless and fix line communications

i even saw one guy with two cell phones, he was talking on one phone and keying text messages on another.

i can only use one thumb, but those youngsters in china can switch their thumbs .. and more they are playing online games with their cell phones, with one thumb.

Baby was in perfect condition, slept but not fainted when found?

that i don't know, but from the picture, look like he was in sound sleep.

no, most of time your heard on video clips were mixed with sichuan dialects (yes, sichuan has a lt of dialects) with mandarin. i don't think you could understand the real sichuan dialects, maybe you can figure out something.

china language, "ton wein, bu ton shen". meaning the same character, but different pronunciations/dialects. the writing in cantonese style was started by the brits in hong kong. it is called "divide and conquer"...

the latin based languages are spelled based on pronunciations

the modern Vietnamese, is created by the french 100 some years ago during the coloniization. used to be 100% chinese characters. i am ethnic mancharin.
