| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 2:46:39 PM | | I've had a lifelong fear of clowns since I was a kid when I would cry and hide at the circus. Over the years it hasn't gone away and clowns like Bozo & Pennywise especially have still scared the crap out of me. I've found out a lot of guys are afraid of clowns and a few girls but I usually get laughed at or mocked when I've told people. Anyone here relate? | |

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 3:24:21 PM | I used to be afraid of clowns when I was little -- because their make-up made them look so garish and ugly. Also because clowns tend to like kids, and assume that the kids like them -- they MAY tend to get right up in the little kids faces without thinking first. Some times some of the "funny" little pranks they play are not age appropriate for a very small child.
I finally outgrew my own fears, but maybe in your case there are some more bad memories assoiccated with clowns that you may have (or have not) forgotten. Also, if your family or teachers riduculed you because of your fears, and did not encourage the clowns to back off, they may have left you with some permanent trust issues.
Many people have many diffeerent kinds of phobias. Phobias are very real, and usually come from some where. They are nothing to be ashamed of, or for others to show a lack of understanding about.

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 5:25:08 PM | | Yep, I loved clowns until I saw the movie "IT". Tim Curry as Pennywise scared the chit out of me, and my kids too. I read the book a few months back and had to turn the book over on my nightstand so the clown wouldn't be watching me, lol. | |

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 5:43:31 PM | | My niece, who is now 27, is still afraid of clowns. Well, I'm not sure if AFRAID is the right word, but she does not like them at all! She says she doesn't trust them because they paint on a mask the hides their real expressions. | |

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 7:04:15 PM | I've always hated clowns, there's even a name for it, "coulrophobia." I tried to get over it once by standing near a clown making balloon animals in a mall, but actually got sick to my stomach and had to leave.
Damned freaks. I hate 'em. Clowns.

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 8:07:56 PM | I've always been terrified of clowns. I think it stems from the one time we went to a circus, and a clown killed my dad.

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 9:12:31 PM | | I think that clowns are kind of creepy and I am somewhat afraid of them. They are usually in makeup, weird costume, wig, big red nose, and they are eerily silent...one senses that their goofy antics are totally a front for unwholesome behavior. Kids should stay away from them...kids are taught not to talk to strangers and that's good. | |

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/17/2008 9:59:37 PM | Oh yeah, mimes are *nasty* but I find I want to harm them in some way. (I wonder why this is?) Clowns though...I don't want them to look at me and I don't want them to touch me. I hate their stupid little tiny cars and their squirting flowers and their horns honking and their....
I could go on, but won't.

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/18/2008 10:15:45 AM | For some reason clowns have a way to to unnerve numerous people, adults included. When I was still married, my ex , the kids, myself, and one of their friends, went on vacation and stopped at "The House on the Rock" in Illinois(?). While touring we were unaware that they had this famous (or should I say infamous)? clown town..... This is a huge, "ginormous" room that housed thoudands of clowns...
Turns out that my son's friend, Billy, was terrified of clowns. We didn't realize this until we entered the room and he froze. He couldn't find his way out so he contented himself with balling up in a corner of the room, rocking back and forth.....muttering to himself... actually a semi moan. Needless to say, we all searched until we found the entrance again.. gave him a BEER,(Nah, just kidding!).. and quieted the poor soul..
Famous clown that creeped me out the most??????? John Wayne Gacy.... Hands Down!

| Anyone Else Afraid of Clowns? Posted: 5/18/2008 10:19:31 AM | | Not clowns, but those 'masks of drama'. I don't know what they're called but the two of them totally freak me out. People have them on their walls and man....they have no eyes...just dark, empty holes. The laughing/frowning opening for their mouths is disturbing to me as well. Creepy, creepy, creepy. I can't even look at them. | |
